Hi, so I bought the seekers edition on Xbox just to get the game to play on my unit. This leaves me with some goodies I can give away - starting with a chocobo shirt!

So, I am about to go into a period of hellish hellishness, and could use a smile. So, I'd like to offer up a free chocobo shirt to whomever can tell me the most heartwarming/funny/makes me smile story about their time playing XI. Heck, if it makes me cry in a good way (I am a sap), even better! I'll choose a winner by tomorrow night, probably, since after that point I shall be immersed in busy.

Mods, I hope this is okay to do.

No digital items were harmed in the making of this post.

Well, I shall give it a shot. :) Just going to tell a random story from my noob days even if it is short.

When I was a super new player, I was wondering how to make a little gil since I was very poor. Someone in my brand new linkshell suggested I go farm. I then proceeded to ask them if i need my own plot and a tractor for that, and then everyone laughed at me and explained what farming means. I was fairly sure it involved tractors, because a few days earlier I had found the word [Tractor] in the auto-translator. ^_^

Back when I was trying to get my first limit break done, there was a group of higher level players who invited me along to get the paper, mold, and bomb coal. While fighting Liches in Eldieme, a coffer key dropped. I passed on it, not knowing what it was. The alliance I was in told me to drop party and rejoin, because I needed that key for PLD AF. If it hadn't been for that, it would have taken me MUCH longer to get. No doubt one of my favorite memories of playing on Garuda.

Thanks for your posts everyone! And wow Zafire, that's some epic length. It really brought back the feeling of old XI.

Uhh, a happy FFXI story? I quit. Found I had a bunch of time in life that I didn't know what to do with. Quit my crappy job and got a good one that I'm making career out of. Found a great girl. Got some great friends and some more rewarding hobbies.

... maybe not quite what you were going for, but there you have it.

I am guessing you don't want the shirt.

;)

For the record, I've got a career, and a great girl, good friends and rewarding hobbies. I also happen to have a few hours here and there to tool around in this great game.

I'm glad you've found those things in the absence of XI, but it doesn't mean they are mutually exclusive. Though, I do feel it is necessary not to get caught up on the "must have all the best things" mentality to play it moderately, at least for myself.

When the mandragora costume belts first came out many years ago, everyone in my linkshell gathered in Windurst Woods, put them on, and made a mandy train. We just rolled through the zone, doing a conga line, for around an hour, having a bunch of silly fun.

Hah! Well, I should totally be an entry, but I gotta admit that it will be a little sad if nobody is able to top a quitting story.

I always found it difficult to get anything done in game in a timely fashion. Like, 4-5 hours was a short night of FFXI. In college I was able to let it consume my free time. After I graduated and got a job, I would literally be unable to do anything after work and before bed if I wanted to progress at all in FFXI. Life fought the game, and, for the first time, life won. It was aided by most of my friends going through similar situations and the old group fragmenting into a million pieces.

Ok, non scientific method I've decided Zarabi wins because that is the exact thought I had as a noob player myself. Thanks to everyone for the smiles. I watched the whole youtube video (again) and read everything and loved it.

For me the defining moment of XI was my first party. I was a blm, invited to party in maze of shakrami, before I had a subjob, at like level 11. The party was all JP, and we got great exp attacking worms.

It just felt so neat to be working as a team with people who didn't speak the same language as me. It felt sort of revolutionary at the time, like if we could play games together without speaking the same language, we could conquer any nationalism. Excessive, perhaps but I was prone to grand illusions at the time. Still, that feeling of teamwork was something I always prized in XI. Not necessarily with exp but with any well executed team based event.

:) Cool thanks :) I'm not gonna use the code right away because I can't decide what character to use it on, but soon. ^^ /smile

And I would personally like more funny stories regardless because I like them, so if people are up for it, why not? :D

Newbie stories are always good imo...

Oh, well, not being a native english speaker, and this mistake seems VERY odd in retrospect but, when I was out killing monsters for the first time, some enemies miss, obviously, and it said something like "The Forest Hare misses Zarabi" and I was like "But why does it miss me, i'm right here, i haven't even left anywhere? It's acting awfully emotional isn't it?" and then I was like oh... not THAT kind of missing.. ._.

Non-FFXI related, Runescape way back when, was beating up enemy cows and they dropped cow hides, didn't really know the word hide, I assumed it meant that if you beat a cow long enough, they go into hiding, and then you pick up their place where they hide, which was awful confusing.

Oh and FF9 taught me the difference between invisible and invincible.

/facepalm

English is way too confusing, (even for the English) because I too have issues putting a full sentance together over breakfast. ><
