Dark Rider Damaged? Follow

#1 Apr 10 2013 at 9:30 AM Rating: Decent
Sorry if the title is misleading, I don't actually have anything to report as such, I've just found a variety of stories, rumours and tales from across the internet about people actually hitting the Dark Rider with damage (even if it only dropped him down to 99%) but I've never actually seen a screenshot/video of the Dark Rider having taken damage.

I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?

Sounds like a Taisai story.

The dark rider is something to behold really, also very rare to see.
I would post a picture if I could find it because I've only seen him twice!
First time was in a party when the expansion first came out, he rode by and killed us all. :D!
Second time I was playing with my brother and a friend when he rode by and we got aggro from his imp friends.

I didn't think the Dark Rider aggro'd? I could be wrong, I haven't yet seen him in the wild. But I do think I remember reading that the Dark Rider himself isn't aggressive.

oh he has some imps that follow him around which do aggro.
I do recall some people actually engaging the dark rider and hitting it for zero when the expansion was new.
(They natuarlly ended up dead soon after.)

I remember the Dark Rider actually going after some RMT once.

Maybe he's controlled by a GM and he only aggros people when he really feels like it.

ha that would have been fun to see but I can't find a picture of people attacking it.
Anyway check the link below for more releated Dark Rider info from the SE site.

I seem to recall there being a screenshot several years ago where a large group of people had managed to whittle his HP down below 100% at one point, but he proceeded to dispatch them quite easily.

(He looks like Odin Shhhh!)
There's a few ToA missions that require you to find a "warhorse footprint" that randomly spawns in any number of zones during specific times.
If you are very lucky, you can see him wandering around.

This is pretty much what I mean, I mean it's the only unbeaten monster in the game at this moment in time (well technically there's probably quite a few in Adoulin but that won't last for long) and I'm still looking for screenshots where he's actually taken damage.

Again, if anyone has anything like that, that'd be amazing. A lot of people still claim it's unkillable as it's meant to be Odin before you see Odin properly right?

But the way I see it, he's nothing like Odin apart from appearance, Odin doesn't cast Death and the Dark Rider has, what seems to be, only Death to cast, unlike Odin's repertoire of spells. Additionally, since when did Odin summon demons and imps? I mean maybe it's just me, but it seems silly to have that as a mechanic of the Dark Rider if he's going to wander around dropping Horse Hoofprints, why give him the pets? What's the point? Surely that distorts the image Odin is meant to have?

Personally I think there's more to the Dark Rider than meets the eye, and those pets are there not out of simple chance.

I think maybe you're putting too much thought into it. He's in the game to provide a bit of a teaser as to what's coming up later in the ToAU storyline, and is only there to provide a meaning behind the Warhorse Hoofprint. There's no drops for him, and nothing additional included in the game files that I'm aware of, as there's been extensive .dat mining and whatnot already done.

later ToAU storyline? Hasn't the expansion been out for years already and all missions released? :/

Later in the storyline as in, after the Warhorse Hoofprint mission. I don't think its expressly mentioned anywhere before then who the hoofprint belongs to, but I could be wrong as its been a while.

It's more of an NPC that was required to interact aggressively with the PCs. Even if there is a picture and any truth to the "I TOTALLY DID DAMAGE TO HIM" myth, it would be more because Square couldn't make it a real NPC and had to follow regular monster rules but jacked it up to the nth power.

I can confirm. I was one of those engaged -> dead soon people. I think we were exping on imps when ToAU first came out and thought we'd try to take on this insta-spawned NM and call for reinforcements. Needless to say we recommended it was not worth coming out to the rest of our shell.

In any case, it's hard to test any kind of battle strat for a monster that spawns so randomly.

..I am sure someone will jump in here and talk about Ixion here but I've seen him more times then the Dark Rider in my time.

oh I don't suppose you have any pictures of the event do you?
When I died during exp when the Dark Rider spawned near us I didn't understand what it was that wiped us all at first because it happened so quick.
If you happen to have your back to the party because your pulling on brd then suddenly an imp comes out of no where and starts owning not just your party but everyone else around you, it's pretty shocking, then followed by amusement.
After the imp came Odin but I didn't see another mob with him because I was dead at that point.
That happened for me in the thickets ( I think) during a lvl 57-58 party on colibri, lol.

I'll check my files and see. I don't recall imps being the problem so much as "Whoa that's cool, how come he's just running around...let's poke it" followed by "/linkshell don't bother coming out, we're all dead" about 3 seconds later.

I always wanted to see the Dark Rider out in the field, slowly going along with his horde of imps ready to slaughter any hapless adventurers he came across. Unfortunately I always seemed to miss him back when there were "Dark Rider" sightings.
