I did Skirmish (Cirdas) for the first time today. It was pretty fun. For our troubles we got the SMN staff and the dagger. The guy who wanted the staff farmed all the pieces himself but if he hadn't it wouldn't have been more than 1-2m per man to do it. Seems like something anybody can do. I have a positive opinion.

Haven't done any Wildskeeper reives, just don't have enough bayld. But they fixed the dead evaluation thing, so that too seems very accessible to anybody, especially when the bayld cost goes down. And 100% drop is nice. I do hope they adjust it so that you can participate for free (or nearly free) in exchange for no armor/weapon drops.

Yeah, as long as your group is competent, the Skirmish fights themselves aren't hard. The real bottleneck for that content is getting the Simulacrum pieces to do the Skirmish fights, because even though there are a lot of ways to obtain the pieces, the actual rate you obtain them is extremely low.

Going with the parts being just a stall tactic and as more is unlocked(either by players or SE hitting the you shall now pass button) it will open up a bit and I could see the lower parts go for 500k to a couple mil and split that's not that bad. They have already dropped in price a good deal and seeing how rewarding the event is that will help with people not keeping the parts but selling them.

Building was fun. Maintaining is tedious.

From what friends have told me this new expansion isn't very good at all and is a rush job, cash grab to feed money into their other failed project. ARR.

Glad I didn't come back for it and fall into their money trap.

That post was so angsty, emo, and made of fail that it gave me cancer.

I have to disagree with your friends then. I think this is one of the stronger expansion starts, as there's plenty to do. There's Wildkeeper Reives, Skirmish, and Delve, and all of those require some time and effort to see any real progress with them. There's not much with the story yet, but Aht Urhgan didn't have too many missions right at the start either. This one is already far better than Wings of the Goddess, and I feel it has the potential to surpass Aht Urhgan and Zilart as well.

If anything certain things were released too fast. Delve should be been broken into sets with the ZOMG stuff being implemented in or around August. The point of progression is to have a gradual increase, working from pre-SoA to low / mid level-SoA to finally the big stuff from Delve. As it stands all I need to do is put a skilled group together that's willing to take 2~4hrs to kill something and hammer out a 30K super weapon then some of the other armor. Farming Plasm isn't hard and is really just a glorified merit PT. So essentially I can skip past all the content created since release and go straight to the best stuff that instantly obsoletes nearly everything created before (so and including items that were worth 150~200+ million gil). And while I'm confident SE will do something to make RME be the "best" or close enough in their class, they now have to stop other things and fix that ASAP to prevent the JP population from jumping ship.

Story is overated anyways. It's something we tell our grandkids to make those wasted years seem better "Back in the day I used to have to walk from a city to Jeuno just to get a cutscene, but boy was that cutscene great!".

You're absolutely right that compared to WoTG it's night and day. There is actually more to do than just Campaign, lots more.

I don't play anymore, but from what people are saying, it sounds really exciting.

Let's compare what the other expansions offered out the box, yeah?

Zilart I'm pretty shaky on, since it came bundled with what us NA people got, but it basically expanded an otherwise pretty barebones game. New jobs (SAM DRG NIN I think?) new areas to level, more... other stuff. Development of the game as a whole continued after Zilart was released so it's hard for me to say what was specifically Zilart and what was just FFXI. Let's just move on.

CoP, hah! NO new jobs. A few good areas to level in to relieve congestion, okay, but more than half of them locked behind mission completion. HARD mission completion. Level capped fights and entire dungeons. Nothing even close to a new endgame event until Limbus opened ages and ages later, and it required nearly full mission completion to do. You could have avoided buying CoP forever and been fine. It didn't really feel empty at the time because the game was still young and there was plenty to do, but CoP could never be released today.

ToAU eventually developed into something amazing, but at release it had a bunch of new zones, three new jobs, a really ****** first tier of assaults system (why the HELL did they go with those as the opening assaults?! Later ones are great, but the PSC ones just bloooow) and a few oddball systems like sanction and imperial standing. Really, it wasn't much, but it FELT HUGE AND AMAZING. And it only got better and better as time went on.

WotG was the exact opposite - despite having a lot of content, it felt barren. A million new zones, but they were all old reskins with no NMs or anything so nobody cared. Two new jobs, both grossly underpowered and received buff after buff. Campaign, which admittedly felt neat, but was ultimately an antisocial experience. But really the worst part about WotG was that all of their endgame systems suck. Walk of Echoes is stupid, sealed container NMs and that one fairy upgrade thing and that really hard NMs you spawn in random areas, man, the rewards for all that was so bad. I blame random augments personally.

Then we entered the lull of those mini-expansions, and nearly everyone I knew quit, myself included.

And then Abyssea WOOOOOWWWWWWW HOLY CRAP WOW ALL THIS OH SNAP IM GETTING GOOD GEAR AGAIN HAHA I HAVE ATMA GEEZ I FEEL ALIVE. There wasn't any future development on those, but they didn't NEED them - it actually shipped complete and fun!

But, yeah. From what I hear about Seekers, it beats everything but like ToAU, maybe even that, except for Abyssea and Abyssea was something special and different. Easily stomps CoP and WotG releases, that's for sure.
