Hello!
A couple quick notes for people interested in the Software Token!
I'd like to start off by saying that I believe at this stage in the game, the mog satchel should be available for all players who register a software token, plain and simple. I have the security token, and have had it for years... but come on, when has item-storage not been an issue in FFXI... just let people have the much-needed space already.
Secondly, I am an android user, but will likely change to an iOS device when my contract is up for work related reasons. So even though I wanted to register the software token so I could throw away this old hard-to-read security token, I was skeptical because I wasn't sure how it would play out if I had a device change or, much in the same way I could lose a security token, I lost my phone. Then I had a bright idea of using an android emulator on my PC!
I hadn't used an android emulator in a long time, so I did a quick google search to see what all was out there today vs back when I first started using the android OS, and decided to give the BlueStacks "app player" (slight deviation from a pure 'emulator') a try and was very pleased (heads up that I had a graphics conflict at first and had to update drivers, so I recommend finding an emulator that works for your computer before detaching your existing security token from your account if you decide to go this route).
After installing the BlueStacks app player successfully, I was able to download and run the Square Enix software token application and register it properly. Now I can view my security token codes on my computer in a couple clicks of the mouse in big bright letters, as well as my android phone if I need to (for me, I've just left it on my computer as it's where I'll be loading and playing the game anyhow).
While this is obviously not a solution for everyone, I'm sure there are many of you out there that just want to run the Software Token app from your PC/MAC without needing to mess with the actual physical Security Token or mess around with your Phone - so I'm just throwing out that that this works wonderfully and met my needs, so it may accomplish what some of you are looking for as well. The one caveat is that if someone has access to your computer information, they could feasibly look for an android emulator on your machine, run the application, and get your security token information much more easily than they could from a Phone or physical Token, but for me, I feel like this still adds a nice layer of security without being over-the-top. Besides... if someone has root level Trojan access to my computer, FFXI would be the least of my worries.
Hope this helps someone and good luck!
