Gameplay in the new expansionFollow

So I have been contemplating what type of events the new expansion will bring and specifically what strategies will be necessary to win.

My personal guess is an event that is similar to old dyna, but no more then 60 mins long. I am obviously speculating but I think an event where melee are needed for first part(farming items to pop boss) followed by a boss who is not melee friendly (high evasion, high defense and nasty tp move). Thus the boss fight I expect a bit of a flash back to 2005 sky strats. This could bring back enfeebling and tanking if done properly. (Maybe even an enimity adjustment for magic bursts to bring back skill chains).

I personally hope they don't do temp items or atmacite/atma etc.

Thoughts?

I think we'll see something akin to the Treasures of Aht Urghan expansion.

I would bet we'll have three main types of endgame content.
Free HNMs like kings or sky that are aimed towards 12-18 players.
Medium group instanced content that will be targeting 6-12 players, aka salvage.
Small group dungeon crawl that will be targeting 3-6 players, aka nyzul.

Big HNMs... is difficult to say. With the introduction of Rune Fencer and SE acknowledging the enmity issues, it really gives the devs to design content around these two factors. Love it or hate it, SE has really started putting in some different mechanics, so I'm hoping they come up with something new for Seekers (no more proc'ing though).

Outside of battle, I am worried about this changing environment concept that the expansion will contain. It reminds me a lot of Wings of the Goddess. Campaign was great when people did it, but good luck fighting the Shadow Lord ever again. Same with Abyssea-Attohwa, I am so sick of running into walls of smoke. If their new plan is on a large scale again, it might work at first, but once the player base decides some random NM or area isn't worth the time, we lose access to that portion of content. I only hope SE has made the scope small enough that it doesn't require 500 people to get through everything.

I was just thinking the other day how much I sort of missed the heyday of campaigns. Yes, we died a lot. Yes, battles were oftentimes one-sided if the wrong NM showed up (hi2u Shadowhand). But there were battles where things were fairly even matched, and when it worked, it worked well. Beyond the scope of time-vs-reward, some of those battles were just plain fun to me.
