I recently received my Prouesse Ring and have begun working on my Terminus Earring and I thought I would share my short story of my time experience and just hand out some simple tips for anyone trying to get it.

So, after about a week total of time down in Zeruhn Mines and about 120 merits, I finally have acquired my Prouesse Ring. It was a long, hard fought battle, but I succeeded. Now, I know most people would say, "In the time it took you to get the ring, you could have capped whatever skill you wanted to and then some." While that is very true, eventually it just turned into something that I really just wanted to have. Just to say that I got it.

Now, for anyone who is interested in attempting to acquire the ring or earrings or all the skill up accessories, I came up with a few little tips to help anyone out. Nothing game breaking here, just simple things to keep in mind.

-Patience is a virtue. It's most likely going to take a while. Some people are lucky and get there's in a couple of hours, for me that wasn't the case. Patience is going to be your best friend.
-Farm it on THF if you can. Me personally, I don't have THF high enough to do the pages and use tools, so I farmed it on SAM, but using THF allows you to use Thief's Tools, which gives you a free hint on the brown caskets and in turn allows you to open a lot more caskets.
-Try and farm the caskets when the Moogle power Mystery Boxes is in effect. While it's not a game breaker, it really helps a lot on casket drops and will go a long way to expediting the process.
-Take frequent breaks. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed and frustrated. There were so many times when I thought it wasn't worth it and I was never going to get it. You need to persevere and stay positive.
-Kind of goes hand in hand with the above, but a change of scenery could be helpful. While keeping a maxed level 5 Treasure Casket Discovery will essentially speed up the time it takes to get what your looking for, I found that for me, it was better to leave when I capped merits, sold my stuff, spent the merits and got some change of scenery. It kept me from going insane.
-Finally, if you have friends, take them along. The EXP from the pages is good and goes really quick, as most people know, when you have a bunch of people killing the mobs. A lot of my farming in Zeruhn Mines was with some friends and it made the whole experience a lot more bearable.

I know this isn't anything terribly interesting, but I felt inspired. Haha. But anyways, in conclusion, I'm interested in hearing from everyone else. For those who have gotten some or all of the skill up items, how was your experience and how long did it take you to finally see that item in the casket? And if there is anything else anyone would like to share, please don't hesitate to.

Oh, also, thanks to Trinironnie and Tasios and anyone else I may have missed that helped me farm the ring. Trinironnie, I hope you got your ring finally. You were at it longer than I was. :(

Here's my version:

Step 1: Take all the time you'd spend farming a Prouesse Ring, and go skill up instead.

There is no step 2 necessary. You won't need the ring anymore.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Airships on fire off the shoulder of Bahamut. I watched Scapula Beams glitter in the dark near the Three Mage Gate...

This. Its nice if you stumble across it, but the amount of time it takes to farm specifically its dramatically more than it'd take to skill up without it. I have the skillup earring, and I barely notice a difference.

Well, that's true, but like I said, it went beyond getting the ring so I could skill up easier. I decided it was just something that I wanted for the accomplishment. I know it sounds ridiculous because where's the accomplishment in simply killing mobs and opening caskets until you see what you want in there, but it's an accomplishment to me.

Eh if you're like me, on a relatively new character with tons of weapons to skill, I don't buy that the ring is a waste of time. If you already had 8 jobs capped before the ring even came out I could see the argument but I feel like marksmanship and archery alone would make it worth it - let alone all the other weapons which I still need to skill.

I am just waiting to get DRG to a high enough level, then I plan to finish my last few levels trying for it. If I don't get it, so be it, I'll get skill ups and levels while aiming for it.

Same arguement can be given to a shaper's shawl.
Though not obtained in the same way, the path you need to obtain it can be pretty hefty for a crafting skill up item,
I have spent months fishing cave cherax to turn in to rare/ex bait so I can fish up matsya with a random chance of getting the item I want.
(It can take a few weeks to get a full stack 99 bait but this is dependant on how much you time you want to devote to fishing. You will likely to only get 8-10 matsya per stack of rare/ex bait.)
So far it's 0/41 on shaper's shawl and I've known some people to trade less then 10 to get theirs. (Even get one off their first fish!)
So you don't want to go to the trouble of levelling fishing skill enough to quest the fish yourself hmm?
Well it'll cost you 330-400k a fish...

The question is... IS IT WORTH IT?

My tip once you get your casket Prowesses Increased treasure casket discovery capped move to the lowest level mobs in the area and one shot then and profit. I got my ring off of the dingbats upstairs...

I was in Zehrun Mines one day just trying to kill some time before bed, so I decided to do a quick page on my Dancer. 2nd to last mob before completion of the page dropped a treasure casket and lo and behold, there's the ring....which I wasn't even actively looking for. (Hurray for random luck!). Didn't know there was an earring tho, and I just got access to Sky last night, soooo...something new to do!

There is unfortunately no Treasure Casket boost from the Kupo Powers up in Sky, nor lower level monsters to switch to after you've finished pages.

So for the earring, that's that. However, let me emphasise that items from the brown caskets arent exlusive to monsters, or the number of guesses. Anywhere in the area, if you get a casket, regardless of the number of guesses, you have a shot to get the item you're after.

The ring wasnt even so bad for me. The Earring, now that's killing me xD
