Rune Fencer or Geomancer?Follow

#27 Feb 25 2013 at 10:52 PM Rating: Excellent
Just a thought. If you have been playing the game since 03 - 04, then you probably have already played all the jobs already and have 1) a pretty decked out melee class job and 2) a seriously pimped Mage class to alternate for end game events as needed. That being said, I cannot imagine a serious player not leveling both to see how they can better enhance their favorite jobs with a new combination sub job.

Think about how ninja changed all melee play. Or how dancer as a sub enabled many people to solo abyssea and leveling a new job in the old areas. How about the revolution of /sch to just about every mage job that truly was the nail in a coffin for RDM.

This being said. I do belive that you will see alot of people leveling both jobs in the mines/chests/abyssea as fast as possible so they can go xplore in the new areas of SOA so they can see how the mechanics of both work as a main and a sub job. Since leveling time from 1- 99 is < a week for even casual players I am pretty certain this is how it will go. Lets just hope the quests for both arent really stupid in that you need a r/x drop item that only can be had in 1 area each or we'll have massive congestion similar to the mini expansion fiasco all over again. :(

Oh I'll certainly level both jobs to 99, I have everything else at 99 so I gotta keep the whole theme going. But as far as how often I'd use the job as a main goes, I still see more potential in GEO simply due to the fact that there's less chance of it being overshadowed by R/M/E toys I have on other jobs with similar roles.

I'll take a wait and see approach. There is no point jumping on a bandwagon that ultimately gets neglected.

Being useful in an MMO > being a special snowflake.

Disclaimer: I do think these jobs will be useful because there will be pressure to create new content catered towards using these jobs. When this happens, I will pick whichever job I can leverage existing gear for, assuming it is also fun for me to play.

Neither. I have too many jobs already.

Neither for me too. Instead of levelling jobs, I'm working my way through all the old content (all the quests, all the missions, and so on) with the jobs I already have and love.

If the costume was the motivating factor, as a mithra I'd level SCH and COR first before these new ones. Smiley: grin

That and my automaton needs some serious skilling up, and she'd get jealous if I levelled a whole new job instead of giving her some attention.

I'm always concerned with new potential support jobs for my already leveled jobs so I'll probably level them both around 49. Then I'll decide from there which is more fun to finish to 99 first. I'm more excited about Rune Fencer just because I'm curious of it's applications.

>.< Hate to be a spoiler but automatons are male >.<

On a side note to another post, I'm pretty sure the dev team has a mithra on a bottle of hand lotion because all of the gear looks hot on them.

How do you know all automatons are male and not just the story ones?

Check your chat log in any fight where the automaton blocks, evades, or is talked about. It always refers to (your) / anyone else's automaton in the Male gender.

The story ones are male and female.

I forget if they are actually her parents or her parent personalities infused into them through the power of the AC.

Anyways It's excepted the puppetmaster community(At least on these forums) that autos are whatever gender the master calls them. No different to how some people refer to their cars as a he or she.

Not to continue to derail off the poll but I agree with Laxedrane. I think that's just a minor battle oversight more than anything else. The ToAU story has a female automaton (Ovjang) and especially since you can name your Automaton very clear feminine names such as Allouette, Sakura, Josette, Verena, Caroline, Andrea, Dora, etc. I have no idea if the battle log changes depending on the name you choose, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't.

RNF because it looks like what RDM should have been in the first place.
Looking at the seekers website, I'm beginning to think RDM might actually play nice with RNF as a subjob, but this remains to be seen. More info is needed, too.

Obviously most of us will end up leveling both, maybe even playing around some. Their actual usefulness depends highly on if SE introduced some game breaking ability, otherwise they'll get neglected once the new car smell wears off. People said lots of "ohh this is gonna be sooo awesome!!!!" when PUP, COR, then later DNC and SCH were released. Out of those four which are actually used for events and why are they used. So while I'm partially biased towards RUN, I wouldn't get my hopes up cause SE tends to ***** up any and everything.

I didn't realise events were the only use for jobs... damn, I must've been playing wrong all these years. SCH and DNC being invaluable as subjobs means nothing, eh? SE sure did mess up bad...

Yeah, if a job is only truly useful as a sub that means they really half-assed it. Almost literally!

Rune Fencer for me first, I've already started saving some gil to blow on it.

I've always been a WHM main, and the thing I like most about WHM is how reactive it is. I don't like routine, I like being able to make split-second decisions that turn the tide of battle. Aside from stunning, not many jobs are reactive in nature. It seems to me like healer & tank are similar in this nature, and that's why I've always sort of had a desire to level a tank class.

Unfortunately I'm too much of a perfectionist, and didn't really want a fourth job, nor did I want to deal with issues like enmity up merits vs. enmity down merits or MP merits vs HP merits. With Rune Fencer, I'm not sure that's going to have as large of an impact, and from what they've released so far about the job, it seems very reactionary. It seems like a job where it will pay to know about the moves of every type of enemy and how to defend against them, which is great because a lot of that knowledge is also something a WHM must know, so I feel like I'll have a head start in that regard.

I'm looking forward to Rune Fencer!

I might actually try geo. I kind of like the idea of an aoe buff job where there is a clear, visible aoe field where you can tell stupid people "Stand here for your melee/mage buffs." Seems like it would be useful for events where your group is tanking one monster. Not so useful if you are roaming, unless you can get your Laopan to "follow" your main DD or something.
