Registration Code? I just bought a used Xbox 360 copyFollow

#1 Feb 22 2013 at 8:35 PM Rating: Good
Hello,

I have been looking for this game for a while and finally found it at a local used game store the other night.

I have signed up for a SE account but am not sure what to do from here.

On the SE "services and options" page, I click the Final Fantasy XI link.

From there I click the "Add new PlayOnline service account" button.

From there I read the "Notice for Users Regitering PlayOnline / FFXI Accounts" and I click the "Next" button at the bottom of the page.

And this is where I get stuck. It is asking for a PlayOnline registration code, and I do not have one.
Where / How do I get this code?

Please help, I really want to play this game.

Thanks!
Rich

If it helps, I bought the game copy that comes with "Rise of the Zilart", "Chains of Promathia" and "Treasures of Aht Urhgan".

Cheapest option is to buy the game from Amazon, then use the codes to update your account.

Since Seekers will be released soon, buying the Seekers Collection and using the 25% code is also an option, but be aware you cannot access the content/codes until its actual release date.

The codes are independent of platform, but locked by region.

See link for amazon links.

Also, and this is the disappointing part...
You'll need to buy another copy of the game.

The expansions up to, and including, Wings of the Goddess require to be installed with a disc. All of the add-ons after that come as updates and you only need codes. The problem is that you don't have a disc for WotG and that one is required to access almost all the content since its release.

In short...
Need a disc with WotG
Need to buy collection for codes

EDIT: You can play the game if you buy the Abyssea collection from Amazon and use those codes, you just can't access a good deal of content.

ugh.. this is getting expensive. I guess they don't really want to sign up new players. :(

I paid $20 for the game.
Then I had to buy a hard drive for my Xbox, which was another $25 used.
Now I have to buy the game on Amazon.. another $10.

And I need to buy another game copy.. OMG. Luckily when I was calling around a couple months ago a local pawn shop actually had the WotG expansion disc for $10, but I didn't buy it because I didn't have the rest of the game. Hopefully they still have it and I can buy it tomorrow.

I bought this for Xbox because I'm tired of sitting in front of my PC playing games and wanted to be able to play on my large HDTV from the comfort of my couch. This was one of the only live online games I could find for Xbox.. and now it's just turning into a mess... ugh.

Question.. if I buy the Amazon copy, will I get my registration code instantly?

And, until I am able to get the WotG disc, will there be anything I can do in game? Will I at least be able to set up my character, walk around the newbie area.. etc?

Thank you again for your help!

I have not bought FFXI from Amazon, but for previous games, I was able to access the registration code immediately. Someone that did buy FFXI from Amazon might be able to verify this though.

You can play the game without WotG.

Finally, I'll be straight with you- setting up this game can be frustrating. Please be patient and we're more than happy to help you out. It all gets easier once you're able to play the game.

okay, sounds good.

I will go back to my bedroom pc, the fast one.. ;) , and download the game from Amazon. And hopefully get my registration code quickly. I'm going to check out Steam first thought, really quickly, since I do already use them for Civ5. But I'm guessing the Amazon route is cheaper?

One more question, hopefully the last.

If I download the game on my computer and pay for 2 characters. Will my roomie be able to play one on the Xbox in the living room while I play one on my PC in the bedroom?

The Steam download is $19.99, so I'll do the Amazon download.

No. Your roommate will need to have a separate account if you want to play at the same time. Accounts are universal, but only can be logged into from one device at a time.

Well, I guess we can buy two reg. codes if we like it a lot, and hopefully we will.

I am downloading the game on my pc and installing it in my Xbox as I type. Time remaining..... 25 min! Yay. :)

Ok, so now I created a content ID, and am downloading updates onto the Xbox, 8 min remaining. . . I think once I'm all done I might just have to start playing tomorrow morning, I'm getting tired. . . Lol
#11 Feb 22 2013 at 11:24 PM Rating: Default
Omg. . . Might be a bit longer actually, 21,000 files remaining. . Est. time remaining now, 10 hours! And that's with high speed Internet and Xbox gold membership, not sure if the latter makes a difference or not.

I hope my 20 gig hard drive is big enough. . Yikes!

The game is less than 12 GB, so you'll be fine.

Thanks for all you're help xypin. I'm off to bed, hopefully this will be done, and not time out or anything, by the time I wake up.

I remember when I was playing in the early days and I'd wake up only to find my update timed out... massive FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU moment. On the plus side, if it does time out you don't start all over again, just from where it timed out from.
#16 Feb 23 2013 at 10:53 AM Rating: Good
Yah, it timed out. I just checked it this morning and there are still 21,000 files remaining. . . Ugh. Looks like I have 10 hours to wait. . . Again.

This SUCKS!!!

I started it this morning. I had to leave to run a couple errands and it timed-out again!! WTF.. and NOTHING WAS SAVED!!

So now, I'm back home again, not leaving anywhere for the rest of the night, and it says it has 10.5 hours left, with 21,000 items again. I'm so aggravated that it didn't save anything. This game is not turning out very well for me so far.

On the brighter side of things I stopped at a local pawn shop and bought WotG expansion disc for $9. But when I got out to the car it had the wrong disc in it.. LOL so I went back in and they just traded it out and game me The Vana’diel Collection disc with all four expansions, so I got that for $9 + tax. Yay.. at least there is that.. lol

It will always do a file check when you start or restart an update, once the file check is done it will then continue to update from where it stopped. Once the game is up to date the next time it updates the file check will be much smaller.

I wish it had started from where it left off but it did not, I'm now 4 hours into my third attempt with just over 6 hours remaining. And I have my alarm on my phone set to remind me to wiggle the controller joystick every 25 min... Lol
#22 Feb 23 2013 at 6:33 PM Rating: Default
Woohoo! 4 hours and 7,200 items remaining. Sorry for the countdown, I'm just excited! Lol
#23 Feb 23 2013 at 10:49 PM Rating: Decent
Omfg. Okay, so the update finished. . . Yay.

But before creating a character I decided to put in the Vanadiel collection disc so I can install WotG.

I selected install, it checked for an update, checked files, and now it says I 17503 more files to download with 9 hours remaining. . . I want to scream!!!!

This has got o be the most complicated download/update process I've ever experienced for a MMORPG.

SE releases a roll out copy called "Ultimate Collection" every year or so that includes all expansions and patches, which alleviates a lot of what you've been through. There's a reason some of us have bought the game three or four times over now...
#25 Feb 23 2013 at 11:30 PM Rating: Default
I just checked my pc download version of the game. Logged into PlayOnline viewer and am updating the game. 24,384 files and 11 hours remaining to download.. And I bought the ultimate Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition (Download), and already spent 3+ hours downloading it.

Well at least my pc won't time out.

Time for bed. I guess I'll restart the Xbox download tomorrow morning and wiggle the joystick every 25 minutes again.

Yes, and we're getting the newest rollout copy in about a month. As annoying as the huge patches are, they are evidence that SE actually does regular maintenance and updates to the game, and they're a necessary evil.

On your PC, you can change your power settings to not time you out or turn off the machine. Under Control Panel > Hardware > Power Options, change over from Balanced to "High Performance" and that should prevent your system from going to sleep. You can go to Advanced and tweak things further - I personally disable USB selective suspend because I need my USBs active all the time.

Draw my character, Vlor!
