Hey guys, haven't played FFXI in a while but we have a deals thread on the Games general board here on Zam and right now on Amazon they are running a code ( CAGROCKS ) for the next few days and I realized it works for the upcoming expansions.
The code knocks 25% off both the basic (22.49) and Ultimate (29.99).
Just figured some of you may want to save a few dollars. I think the code works til the 28th.

I'll replace my useless post with a question. Am I going to have to purchase this download from a US site in order to get a US product key? Been so long since I bought an expansion, and it's always been an annoyance living in the UK and playing the US version.

Most likely yes. All the codes are region locked if I remember correctly.

Figured as much. I remember importing CoP and ToAU but I couldn't remember if it was impatience or for the codes lol.Here's hoping I can find a site that doesn't need me to run through a proxy! Suppose I could try making up a US address to order from Amazon.com.

Is it possible to buy/download the PC version out of U.S. if we don't use a U.S. adress? I live in Canada and not sure if they gonna let me buy it and download it since my credit card info is based out of U.S. ...

Apparently the easiest trick to circumvent that is to buy gift cards, then make purchase with them. That's what some people did to get the amazon deal for the FFXI collection a couple of months back, if memory serves.
Hmmm going to have to try the gift card route. If it doesn't work I'll just have to spend that money somewhere else. Calamity.
I am now going to spend the $10 I saved on a celebratory booze.
Too bad it won't work for the 360 version.
On Amazon, is it a 1-time download only or unlimited download like Steam once you pay? It may dictate where I buy it since I'm gonna buy a new computer to play SoA on it...
I guessing, so please don't take this as fact, but since the key is linked to your PoL it's probably infinite downloads. I mean once you activate the key on your PoL account it doesn't matter how you get the game data, because you already bought a "license". Its kind of silly SE hasnt put a Bliz installer/every MMO where it just autodownloads everything.
A Quick scan of Amazon doesn't show a limited install DRM so, you can probably download it as many times as you want.

There are no limits on downloads through Amazon. When you buy FFXI expansions, you're really just buying the activation code. Even if limits did exist, it would be entirely possible to torrent the game simply because you can't do anything with it until you actually pay for the game.
As far as the simple installer, it is really annoying how SE has everything setup, but I think there is a lot more involved in switching over. It already takes 10? hours to download just the updates and that would be even longer if significant content were to be added. I believe this is because the updated downloads files one at a time from a single location- another reason why update days are so awful.
Fortunately, it seems that SE has already implemented a better update process for FFXIV, so they are not completely left behind. Unfortunately though, it just might not be worth the time/effort to change it for FFXI.

Found another deal for SoA, this time on GameFly. Not quite as good as the Amazon coupon, but it apparently is good until 4/12. 20% coupon "GFDAPR20" off digital downloads, and they have both the Seekers Collection and the SoA expansion-only package available.
