Under what circumstances did Sacred City of Adoulin come to be? What is life like in this mysterious nation?

• History

Adoulin is the name given not just to the city on the main island, but to the outlying island chain as well.

About 200 years ago, the age of pioneering that dominated the political scene—an age referred to by historians as "the great expedition"—drew to a close.

The plans for colonizing Ulbuka were postponed indefinitely, and a large wall known as Jorius Yett was constructed between Eastern Ulbuka and Adoulin proper—a task which took many years and thousands of workers to accomplish. This massive structure enclosed what little was left of habitable land in Adoulin and its dwindled population.

The great expedition came to an end after hundreds of years. Yet the wounds left by this retreat were severe, as merchants, nobility, and even common folk sunk nearly all their resources into expanding Adoulin's domain within Ulbuka. The resulting economic collapse closed the curtain on what would have been a shining future for the budding nation.

The ruling house of Adoulin and the eleven noble orders, sensing the need for change if Adoulin was to survive, elected to dissolve the long-standing imperial system, rearranging the government into what was to become known as the Sacred City of Adoulin.

The first goals the empire set its sights on were not to simply recover from its martial decay, but also to contain the surrounding island nations. These considerations bore fruit, as Adoulin developed into a city-state with well-funded mercantile trade.

In recent years, Ygnas S. Adoulin, leader of the Order of Adoulin, declared that the colonization project was to be restarted after countless centuries. This move was not without political consequences, however, and the alliance between the twelve orders has started to fracture into factions supporting and opposing the project.

• Adoulin's Establishment

In ancient times, the Isle of Adoulin and other surrounding islands were ruled by a fierce crocodile-like demihumans race known as the Velkk. The great hero August, a man called "the founder king" and whose legacy is felt in Adoulin to this day, drove them out from Adoulin, with what little forces they had remaining seeking refuge in the far western part of Eastern Ulbuka. August constructed a castle on the land the Velkk once held, and a city sprung up in the surrounding area. This was the origin of the Adoulinian Empire. In recognition of their great service to the first king, eleven of August's most trusted soldiers were granted land and status, and formed the other eleven orders of Adoulin that exist to this day.

• Politics and Government

Adoulin is governed by a ruling council that makes decisions via consensus. The grand chancellor is Ygnas S. Adoulin, but as the council has the final say over all matters both domestic and international, the position is merely an honorary title.

I'd say "Other" as there is a Taru npc from Adoulin already in game.

Probably also accounting for goblin npcs, maybe a couple yagudo. Taru lumped in because there isn't a significant amount of them? Makes sense to me.

Very very interesting. The story, at least the setting, seems very well-plotted out. Shows more promise on that front than WotG or Abyssea. And we finally get a different plot that doesn't seem to be saving the world from a void or some threatening alternate reality. It seems like a good, down to earth mystery. I do hope they remember the items and characters/roles (e.g. the exorcists) they defined as being from the Far West previously and include them. This expansion shows a lot of promise. I hope people come back and actually notice it.

Hmmm, interesting divide....
Supporting Re-colonization: Grand Chancellor, Finance/Treasury & revenue, Commerce/Economy, Scouts Coalition/Survey & Research, Pioneers Coalition/Agriculture, Mummers Coalition/Entertainment & Intelligence, Couriers Coalition/Transport & Inspection, Inventors Coalition/Industry & Technology

Opposing Re-colonization: Justice/legal & judiciary, Public Health, Education/History & academia, Peacekeepers Coalition/Security & Defense

Obviously the financial side of the government supports the re-colonization project, not to mention the scouts & pioneers because it gives them more to do (and more land for agriculture). That Mummers Coalition seems like the oddball one- entertainment & intelligence. That's an odd pairing. Industry would obviously favor progress in tapping the unharnessed land. It's more interesting to see who's opposed. Public health... ok, maybe they fear diseases being brought back from the wilderness, but the opposition of security, justice, & history/education seems interesting. Is there some lost chapter in Ulbuka history that they are aware of (or at least the suggestions of a missing chapter with something bad in it)? Is there some perceived security risk that would open up by starting re-colonization? And the legal angle. Is there some legal involvement? Makes me wonder if there was some treaty negotiated at some point that might get jeopardized by re-colonizing past the wall.

This expansion really has be intrigued. It finally feels like FFXI is continuing from the ToAU direction. WotG only stayed on track with Campaign, everything else was just going off on tangents.

Edit: and quests. They better have quite a few quests with this expansion! Quests were sorely lacking from WotG on. Vanilla/Prime thru ToAU had a lot of quests.

I wouldn't say lacking, just they made them differently is all.
You had to do some quests to unlock missions, :)

No! I promise it’s not like that! (And I am speaking as a Tarutaru myself!)

Lore-wise there really aren’t that many Tarutarus who adventure out beyond the green and safe Sarutabarta region (though I suppose a Tarutaru at level 1 is not very safe from gigantic crawlers and Yagudos who roam these areas). Of course there are some super-Tarus who possess higher than normal abilities though! I’m sure you can name a handful. However, due to this we’ve placed the Tarutarus who reside in Adoulin into the 5% “Other” group. I assure you though that walking around the town you will still encounter a good deal of Tarutaru NPCs, and even meet some distinguished ones while adventuring.

Also, in case you were curious…

The twelve orders of Adoulin are not based on a hereditary succession system. Before the development of the city-state, each house was a small country, but appointed the person most apt for each job to represent the whole. Due to this, currently only the house name remains for each order. For example, Gratzigg is the Peacekeepers’ Coalition Maester because he is a man with a lot of influence. However, the house of Adoulin, which was once royal has a blood successor and Ygnas is the legitimate successor of August.

Once all of you adventurers head over to Adoulin you’ll get even deeper into the history. I hope you are looking forward to it!

I always pictured the Far West as having Dhalmels and some open or semi-arid plains (a Serengetti). It would be interesting to see what lies beyond the jungle.

My hope would be a place to finally AH stuff you presently can't AH, but that might be wishful thinking.

Greetings scholars and theologists of Vana’diel!

We managed to grab a hold of the lore team to get some insight into the information regarding religion that was found in the recently posted "The Sacred City of Adoulin."

While it might seem that Animitism is close to Animalism, it is actually referring to the Animist religion that is found across the continent of Ulbuka.

Long ago, the people who inhabited Ulbuka spoke of the existence of a mysterious power found on the continent known as Ergon. Their belief was that elementals inhabited the plants, earth, lakes, air, and everything that makes up the continent. With that said, Animitism has no direct relation to the Naakuals of Ulbuka. One interesting thing to note is that the Mithra from the Gha Naboh Matriarchate in the south also have a very similar belief system.

Also, in regards to Talekeeperism, this is kind of philosophy that only Galka embrace, and is somewhat different from an actual religion.
