Trouble with Gold Sturdy PyxidesFollow

So me and a buddy have been duoing off and on trying to get Empyrean Feet for our prospective jobs. We've done our research and found that they drop from Gold Sturdy Pyxides in Aby-Vunkerl. Further research told us that killing monsters and capping Amber Light will help increase the appearance of said Pyxides. We even went one step further and now have Abyssite that increases treasure casket appearance (forget what it's calle) and two Abyssites of Destiny (which supposedly helps with Gold Sturdy Pyxides). But we fight monsters, cap Amber Light and we're still not getting any feet to appear in the caskets...we keep ending up with Augmented Items. Is there something that we're missing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nope, nothing that you're missing, there's just a lot of things that can be in gold boxes and you're more likely to get Something Else than you are to get AF3 feet.

In the tier 5 gold boxes (the ones that turn up big), there is another thing you possibly get in those, key items... which technically lowers the chances of getting AF3 feet. Additionally, tier 4 gold boxes that contain items are able to contain more of them, increasing the odds of finding AF3 feet in there. However, in order to not get tier 5 boxes it means you have to get less amber, which means getting fewer boxes that are gold... so there's no real optimal scenario there.

Well, that stinks. Oh well. It's a good way to cap EXP or get some Merits too so it's not a complete waste of time.

Thanks for the info anyway.

The main thing that's going to help you with Gold Pyxide farming is kill speed. Kill stuff faster so you can get chests (of all kinds) faster. If you can kill stuff fast enough, you can have capped Azure and Amber and the sheer volume of chests you have to deal with will compensate for some of the chests not being the kinds that you want. When my friend would farm for KIs using his BLU alt, we would often wind up tossing multiples of the same Empy feet.

After that, it's just luck. Even if you start getting chests with Empy feet in them, you may keep getting the 7 jobs that you don't need instead of the 1 job that you do need.

Just FYI, the way that those work is that each of those abyssites you have gives a small chance to make a chest drop as though you had capped amber light, even if you don't have capped amber light. They basically only help as you're working on your lights, and don't help at all after that, although they can still be quite nice. I remember once going into Abyssea - Attohwa, and the very first mob I killed after I entered dropped empyrean feet in the box. That wouldn't be possible without at least one abyssite of destiny.

Eh, I don't know if there's been any definite testing done, but to me it doesn't seem to work like that. Or rather, I should say, it seems that with the abyssites it simply lowers the threshold of a certain light you need to get into the next tier. I know with barely 80 azure now it's basically "capped" for me due to getting all T5 chests at that point. Amber's somewhere around 120~ (I still need to get all the reputation/quests finished for everything but tri-boxing kills a lot of motivation for that sort of thing), and Ruby's probably around the same as Amber.

I know with Ruby's almost impossible for me find any "normal" chest lights (Perle, Azure, Amber, Ruby) because even with just a few kills they begin to get replaced with Gold/Silver/Ebon. Which, is great when you're trying to get capped Gold and some Ebon for EXP farming... not so much if you're trying to get Perle up a bit higher (but with most abyssites that usually isn't a huge issue anymore).

This is the most important part, even beyond what abyssites you have. If you have a job that can AE farm effectively (BLU, NIN, THF, MNK, WAR -- BLM has too much downtime for my tastes until your gear goes beyond what the other jobs need to AE farm) it'll go much, much faster for you.

I've done a decent amount of "feet" farming and this is what works for me:

1. Go in with max time.
2. Do ele ws kills until you hit ~100 Amber. Don't go much higher than this because you will start seeing the big gold chests which actually lower your probability of getting feet (as discussed above).
3. Then, just kill mobs as fast as possible taking care to only Pearl (melee) kill them.
4. You want to maximize the possibility of a small gold chest dropping. Therefore, avoid Ruby at all costs. Also, don't bother with Azure- the goal is to get in, get feet, and get out ASAP.

As a duo, my partner and I (after getting ~100 Amber and earning some Pearl) got 4 diff. feet to drop in an hour. We saw a ton of small gold chests in that time. I don't have any math to back it up, just my own success and the thanks given to me by others who tried this "method" and succeeded. Happy Hunting!! :)

This. Once spent 7 hours farming feet. Got multiples of EVERY KIND that drops in the zone, except blu feet, which is what I wanted.

Actually, with the "increases luck with pyxides" types, it doesn't just seem to increase the chances right off the bat, but also gives you a steady hidden increase in light over time. When I was in Tahrongi the other day, I got my azure off the manticores before heading back to bats for nonstop slaughter. I only got azure to 160, but by the time I left the zone I was steadily getting level 5 chests as if I was capped.

Ok, this gives me some hope. I'll try out this method tonight. Killing speed isn't much of a problem since we usually target the Peapuks in Vunkerl. I have DRG and my buddy goes BLU. Will post with results when I can.

The abyssites make it so that you need less light to "cap"

3/3 kismet abyssites = only 128 azure is needed to ensure you get a 99% drop rate on tier 5 blue boxes. If you are in a Scars/Heroes zone, this amount needed can be reduced further depending on the status of Bastion/Dominion in the area.

Alright, tested out ChaChaJaJa's method this weekend and I can say that I am now the proud owner of a pair of Caller's Pigaches! Thanks for the helpful info. Now to get all the Seals to get Pigaches +1!
