Need Advice on Returning... :: World of Warcraft

Hi, I'm a returning player, I read the sticky threads about returning players and what to except but still have some questions.

I really haven't played steadily since 2008 but I did try to play again last summer but ended up not having time. I bought all the Abyssea expansions and have all the others. Played in some alliances in Abyssea last summer as whitemage and it was a lot different than the traditional parties. Very fast leveling and it felt like I didn't make much of an impact since there were so many others there to help out. The old days if I was a healer, I had to stay more focused. I realize this has changed though.

Was able to reactivate my character. Looks like I have: 80 WHM, 75 BLM, 55 RDM, 32 SCH and 9 NIN.

My problem is I just have no idea what to do first and how to go about it. Not sure how to earn money anymore, should I take up crafting or something? Not sure what kind of parties to look for, I think I have access to some Abyssea areas. The Altepa one maybe?

My gear was descent for those jobs in 2008, probably outdated now. The game seems overwhelming to me now. In the old days I could always find something to work on. As everyone says the game has changed a lot so that must be why I'm lost.

With the new expansion coming, is partying going to remain similar to the Alliance format they use now? I received an email about double exp this weekend but it said Abyssea areas are not included. Where are people exping at then?

The absolute first thing you should do is find a Linkshell that you like. This can be accomplished while simultaneously doing the second thing you should do, which is level your favorite job to 99 asap! Since you've already experienced Abyssea, you're stones have been building up since then. Both WHM and BLM are highly sought after for end game activities.

All the old money-making activities are still valid, hell, even the crystal market has picked up recently with the new crystal based tele-ports. Most parties don't care if you lot on the (ex) items you need for your limit breaks, and most won't even care if you have to warp back to do limit breaks. If you havn't yet, you need to start the voidwatch quests ASAP to build stones similar to Abyssea.

Confused? All the more reason to find a good LS ASAP, they're gonna be much better at answering you questions than anyone.
