Maybe I'm just seeing things, but I finally finished my 95 -> 99 Mandau upgrade last night, and I swear the model looks slightly larger now. I'm also certain I've seen players with both Coruscanti and Lux Puggio equipped and the Corus. looked slightly larger. My LS says i'm seeing things. Has anyone else ever noticed this, or should I seek neurological help?

Aside from the fact that equipment adjusts its size in accordance to the character wielding it (for instance, a Ragnarok wielded by a Taru is probably about the size of an average dagger to a Galka) I'm not sure what else could be the cause of whatever you're thinking >_>

I don't think it's bug or anything, I think it's supposed to look bigger because it's a more powerful weapon. But i was just wondering if anyone else had noticed the same thing. It'd probably be easiest to just find someone with Lux and Corus and get them to equip both, but Qilin is a stingy ******

You're probably just seeing things, but there is a way to test your theory assuming you're on PC.

Every weapon has a .dat file that determines its appearance. Each weapon even has a unique .dat depending on race. For example, mandau for Hume Male is found under ROM\136\102.dat, but for Mithra, it is file ROM\138\91.dat. If two items have the same appearance, then the same .dat file is used for each piece.

This means if lv95 Mandau is bigger or brighter or different in any way from the lv90 or even lv75 Mandau, then it will use a different .dat file. If you replace the lv75 mandau .dat file with a bronze dagger .dat file and your lv95 Mandau will remains unaffected, this will suggest that your new dagger is, in fact, somehow different in appearance.

You could just find out if there is a lv95 mandau .dat file, but I don't have any current .dat file lists and I'm too lazy to check for one myself.

I could always have sworn my character looked more buff with certain jobs than others. But in the end, if you compare it to fixed points in the background, you can actually see the size doesnt differ what so ever. It's just our minds playing tricks on us.

Kind of like how you're always supposed to be able to see your nose, but your brain simply hides it from your vision.

Well, there is two models for every relic in the dats. For example, for Mithra, both ROM/138/91 and ROM/275/68 are Mandau. They don't seem to be a different size to me, though.

Remember you can set your character's size too, small medium or large, and that will affect weapon size too if you're noticing a difference even with the same race.

Is one the afterglow version?

There's definitely precedent for the same model to be scaled within the game. High level crawlers in the Crawlers nest are much larger than the ones in Sartabaruta, Abyssea is full of mobs that spawn at different scales under different conditions, and I'm pretty sure the same .dat for Blobdingnab is used for all the red blob/clot type mobs. Just looking at the .dat's doesn't necessarily show the in-game scale.

The "little" lizard in Abyssea Konstadt comes to mind. Not only is it half size, it gives half the exp and double the cruors.
