What are the rarest items in game? Not really items that are still newish, but things that either are no longer camped for or crafted, or just had awful quest line that made it not worth the effort. I thought of this after looking at the Beastmen headgear they released many years ago.

I have one of these and one of these

ETA: Not as rare as the Laurel Wreath, but still, you can't get them unless you were at the fan fests.

So, my signed Aristocrat's Tunic, Jupiter staff, Blessed Trousers, and Sha'ir Manteel?

The trousers.... yeah. Aelreth made those for me. He passed away in 2008. *cry*

I's say that hat that Noble Mold drops is pretty rare.

The 'damage varies by moon phase' line of clubs (rabbit stick, moonlight wand, Artemis' wand, Selene's wand, moonwatch wand). Relevant to moon carrots.

Also, Stars Cap and Laurel Crown (edit: oops, that one is covered).

It's Laurel Crown pretty much hands-down. Only 20 ever existed, not transferable at all, all on the same server, and distributed so long ago I wonder if any of those players are still around (and consider their demographic: PvPers in FFXI!)

Certainly not the rarest, since there are one or two out there, but definately among the rarest things out there.

Voidwatch Uptala's "Murasamemaru". I've never met anyone who has one, ever. But they're supposed to have dropped atleast once at one point.

Same for Voidwatch Qilin's "Coruscanti". Only one or two people in the entire world of all servers seem to have one. I'm personally already 0/300+ on it, but everyone else who ever done Qilin is probably a good 0/1xx on it as well.

After that, any of the special Voidwatch Armors. Only just the other day got a Mextli's Harness, never seen any of the others. There's a reason the inferior crafted version sells for a few mil, and the still inferior crafted +1 version for 8-9 mil. If it was easy to just go out there and get this one, people would do that.

Semi rare, the Ogier's, Athos's, etc.

While not an item, I'm sure the 110 skill crafters are a rarity of its own.

The Coruscanti seems common enough; there are three in my LS at the moment that I know of.

I'd vote Defending Ring.
Lengthy process for a KS99 fight (accumulating KS or converting others), fighting Chlevnik, hoping for a Savory Shank, then making bargains with the universe for a ring instead of a goddamn Pixie Earring.
Or you could just buy the Shank, which will run 7m to 9m depending on your server.

I know some poor guys that are 0/30+ (after the shank update).

BST Mythic axe would have to be a possibility, right? As of the last census, there were ZERO created. I know that I heard one person finished the axe around the same time, and perhaps there's some more Mythic interest now (and new Salvage zones may increase it more), but we're talking low single digits ever made.

I've never heard of people getting the super-rare Legion boss weapon drops yet either (Girru from Paramount Gallu, Ikarigiri from Paramount Botulus), but perhaps I'm just not up on that. And maybe they'll show up more in the future with Legion adjustments and more players doing the event. But still... drop rate isn't much better than the shimmering VW weapons like Coruscanti, and Legion wave 3 bosses are a hell of a lot harder to spam than a VW mob that people can do dozens of times in a row shooting for drops.

Edit: OK, I do see 4 Ikarigiris on FFXIAH.com. But 0 Girru there.

None of these are as rare as previously mentioned items. A search of FFXIAH will reveal that, but then again a casual stroll through my own server's Port Jeuno did this weekend.

Also 0/300 is starting to approach the average of most VW rare drops.

Rarest is probably Laurel Crown. Fortunately I had the chance to Ballista a few times against one of the winners, Barlog, when I was still on Siren.

Saw quite some JP players with that already. Even one with a screenshot wearing it on FFXIAH.

And the only reason Laurel Crown is rare is because no one can get one anymore since there wont ever be anymore PVP tournaments.

Still, that's 20. That's probably still more than the amount of people that have a Phos Belt +1. It needs someone with guts to make a 6 mil Speed Belt into a Sonic Belt (without HQ'ing it), and then craft that into not just a Phos Belt, but a Phos Belt +1.

83 Murasamemarus

643 Coruscantis

1093 Mextli Harnesses

And that's just among people who show their gear on FFXIAH, primarily NA players for that matter.

You couldn't be more wrong. There are probably 'rare' VW drops that outnumber stuff like Defending Ring or Ridill, content six+ years older.

Tanner's ring so that's not a worry. But yeah it is a risk losing it over not one but two synths. Imagine a day a crafter forgot to put on the ring and HQ'd a sonic belt. Biggest fail. Hey so, isn't a sonic belt +1 pretty rare too?

There are numerous Girru & Ikarigiri on Asura, we've got Mul down to farm status and kill 3-4 bosses on most runs. Saw two Girru drop from the same boss once. I've personally only seen one Ikarigiri, so that one might still be semi-rare.

I think the Hexed -1 stuff has to be up there in terms of rarity. I've managed to get two: Iaso Mitra & Spurrina Gages, and they're the only one of each that I've seen although I know there's at least one more of each floating out there somewhere on Asura.

I was going to suggest the Cards back from the 2005 New Years event. Remember that one with the worms who cast bind on you and all that?

There were like 7 or 8 Rare/ex cards from that event. I'm willing to bet that they're vanishingly rare.

Valefor is a bit of a backwater server and the NA linkshells really do not have their acts together. The best we've been able to do so far is clear one or the other of Botulus and Gallu but hopefully we'll continue to improve and get to the point where we can do multiple boss waves. I've personally never seen either glowy weapon on anybody.

Are there still only two afterglow weapons completed? Would that kinda-sorta be considered the 'rarest'?
