Ok so yesterday I bought FFXI Ultimate Collection Abyssea edition on Steam, download went fine and the game installed perfectly. I then started the game and the Playonline launcher started patching, so far so good. I then get greeted with a page that tells me I need a Playonline account with 2 options one for people who already have a Playonline account and one for those who don't, I click the latter of the 2 and get shown a link that directs me to a page about linking Playonline accounts with Square Enix accounts, seems as I had neither I proceeded to make a Square Enix account, I then click the button in the account management page that allows you to make a Playonline account and enter my product code, but to my dismay a message tells me that I am too young to make an account and that i need to get a parent to do it for me, of course with no instructions on how to do this....
I also somehow managed to make a Playonline thing through the actual client( probably the first of the 2 options I mentioned before) it appears as a 'Playonline id' and is in a little rectangle next to the list of options in the launcher, when I made it I had to put in my SE account information and add a new id and password, but when I click on it, it lets me login with the new password but when I click the second option to login it accepts neither my new password or my SE account one.
Sorry if this didn't make any sense or is TL;DR but any help would be tremendously appreciated ^_^
Also I know this has probably been asked before but I didn't find any answers on the threads I saw :/ Sorry in advance.

So, you're under 18? For legal reasons, they have to have someone over the age of 18 agree to make the payments each month, as someone under 18 cannot be held responsible for a recurring payment. You have to be at least 13 to play at all - if you're not 13 years old, Square Enix is in violation of some dumb "Children's Online Protection Act" or some such.
Basically, if you are between 13 and 18, the account itself will have to be registered in your parent's name. Once you turn 18 and can be legally responsible for the payments, you can call Square Enix and have the account transferred over to your own name.
As for the passwords and such, there are three sets of usernames and passwords you eventually juggle. The one entered into Playonline when you first log in is just a local account. The second prompt will be for the Square Enix password you set up on the website when you created your Square Enix account.

But how would I physically set it up? Like how would an account be able to tell that I've got consent? Cause the one I've got now doesn't let me. What would I have to do differently?
I'm certain that at some point it asks for a date of birth.
