Hey, I was wondering what classes were in demand, and I got this list-

Tank: MNK, maybe NIN

Damage:
BLM
DRG
RDM

Heals:
SCH

Is that it? Does nobody use SAM or PAL anymore :( It's so sad...Or am I wrong? Are these from the last xpac?

Depends what you are doing.

Out of all my jobs (9) I only use:
WHM
BLM
THF
NIN

Depends though as I said on what was being done. Abyssea is about the Proc jobs but depends if aiming for Red, Yellow or Blue.
The likes of Nyzul/Log Watch (Void) are a different story.

These are the jobs that gather dust:
RNG (cry)...
DRG
SAM
BRD (sometimes comes out to play for proc/support)
SMN

Bst and Pup are solid solo jobs.

BLM always good for Abyssea Procing. BRD n Blu also good here for Yellow. War properly skilled for red proc is a good choice.

Mnk and Nin are the "tanks" for the most part these days.

Cor and Brd seem to always be needed in VW.

DD's are DD's still though for most High End things Relic Empy DD is preferred.

WHM is the optimal Healer,

This is just where the current content has us atm. Any job is useful and viable these are just the preferred jobs today.
Play what you enjoy, But be diverse in your jobs so you are prepared for what may be needed or lacking.

OK, I was OK until I found out there is a Rune Knight. I must be this. Why would they announce it so far before the release :(

Your list is not what is in demand.

Melee: Ukon War, Rag and 2nd preference Apoc Drk, Vere Mnk
For things that need a PLD: Ochain Pld
Healers: WHM
Support: SCH SMN BRD COR

I forgot to include some others:
Dynamis Farming: BST, Thf/Dnc, Dnc/Thf
VW: other jobs for procs (BLM, BLU, SAM, RNG are typically invited; per Anza so is NIN)
Legion: ?

The above is accurate. I'd add NIN to the typically invited VW proc jobs, and PUP (PUP/THF or PUP/DNC) to the Dynamis farming list.

To also address Abyssea content, which is still pretty active:
Key item farming: NIN, WAR, BLU
Healer: WHM
+1/+2 upgrade item farming: BLM (particularly BLM/BRD), BLU
Treasure hunter (especially desired for empy weapon upgrading): THF

My suggestion, if you want to be guaranteed an invitation to 95% of endgame events, is WHM. Relatively cheap to level, relatively cheap to gear, and always always always in demand. Most VW alliances like to roll with 2-3 of them, whereas only one of each other job is usually asked to come.

Use WHM as your money maker and your access job, so that you can slowly gear up and build up whatever other job you really want to play. My BLM's gear and spells were paid for primarily with my WHM's labor over the years.

At some point, once your other job(s) are geared well enough to stand on their own, you can make a big show of "retiring" your WHM and just stop offering to come to events on it. (Easier to do if you're not in a linkshell, frankly.)

Oh, that's kinda like what BRD used to be... I'll try it!

Yeah, these days bard is a boutique job. In larger alliances I have a 50/50 shot of coming on it.... and that's with Gjallarhorn. In a low man group? Quite unlikely.

I got my Toci's Harness while playing on WHM after normally coming on other jobs. WHM ftw ;)

Sounds somewhat familiar. I ended up getting 8 or 9 Ravager's leg seals while trying obtain Lancer leg seals.

While I was on my PLD, no less.

Guess that's a sign I should level WAR instead of DRG now.

Drop rates are proportionate to the items in which you seek. You will gear other jobs faster than that which you are trying to gear. Its science.
