So I have been doing the skill up thing here as of late..i was away from game for 3 years almost and was under skilled to some degree then. I came back couldn't get in a party as RDM, so I :( .....FC to 99...now i am under leveld in all areas of skills...I have been fighting goblin meatcleavers in Abyasea to skill up...They are getting me sword, parry evasion dark, enhancing, and enfeeb. all nice and all I am basically asking for any pointers or tweeks to make this god awful slow process go by faster or maybe even more profit from the mobs. Sword skill is at 302, still 100 below what it should be, main one i am working on while others are a nice bonus....mobs areas ideas input solutions. magical way to make this not the most tiring event aside from stareing at screen waiting for NM pops...Thank you in advance....

there is skill up food. Also watch for the martial master moogle power. When that is up skill up in zones affected by it.

You should also make a point of properly targeting prey in your skill up range. Fighting stuff too far above your skill level (those goblins for example) actually slows down your skill gain.

And try watching tv or something while you do it. It's boring, but it does need to be done.

yeah i use food, though I did just figure out a new food, to me, that targets 300-350 which was nice to learn right as I enterd that sword level...I figuered Ep at 99 would be good for a while though i guess at a level 85job sword skill level 85 mobs would be better as the are even thus in my level range...I do know i need a mob that drops something better then at best 1k items...cause making gil while doing boring task does at least make those task seem a little more worth while IMO...i just stopped on the goblins as I found them skillupable on so many stats..and they didn't cast magic like the 4-5 other mobs i came across 1st....

I capped Katana in Aby on Erucas when I was farming amber to try to get some AF3 shoes I needed and I didn't want to bug my LS mates. If you can have a friend come out on BLM to build your Azure you can stay out there quite a while. Food helped, but having a second goal was also nice since you are doing two things at once.

I've come to the conclusion that you gain more skillups when you're doing anything but trying to skill up. I got more Axe skill soloing Ironclad Smiter than actually trying to skill Axe on dolls.

If you build some amber light (elemental WS kills) you can get some decent NPCable items from gold chests; Highlands is particularly good for that. Or, as Wint said, go to Scars areas and get AF3 feet from chests.

You can also build a cruor chain by killing enemies of different types back-to-back (i.e. not the same mob name twice in a row). While cruor can't be used to generate gil effectively with the last update, as a returning player, you may be needing a decent amount for items and upgrades at this point as it is. If you're killing solo anyway, it doesn't hurt too much to set yourself up for alternating mob types, for example, the two types of crabs in Mis. Coast.

On the up end as rdm, you can pretty effectively generate all relevant lights (pearl, azure, amber) while you do this.

If you want to make the process pretty hands-off for melee, try to get the 3 atma slots and then 3 regen atma. Grab a low damage weapon and then plink at crabs in Grauberg(A) or something and just WS if they put up stoneskin. Though, I suspect stones may be a concern for you if you just recently returned.

Magic requires a bit more attention, but it can basically be done the same way. Refresh II and some gear can ideally sustain you spamming Dia, Bio, and Stone for their respective skill ups. Just don't alternate Dia/Bio.

FC WAR to 99, pop defender+retaliation in Abyssea (Aggro some Mandies or Chigoes) with some regen atmas and a lv 1 __ (insert weapon to skill on). Go afk for 3 minutes. Repeat.

Trust me, it IS much faster to just level WAR.

They changed counters to skill Evasion first. Wouldn't be surprised if this affected Reprisal too, but I remember it didn't.

Changes to skilling Parry and Guard might have altered it again though.

I've been skilling up a lot of stuff lately.

Basically, I've been doing Pachypodium from 300ish to 350ish, then Bluffalo to cap. I'm using my default VV+MC+MM and only really need to worry about healing when the Bluffalo hit EM/T. I'm mostly watching TV and hitting a ws/quick spell every minute or so, and doing paralyna/viruna as needed. Capped sword, club, staff on PLD and got Divine to 350, now I'm on DRK for scythe and GS and Dark is at 330 so far.

A fast way to level enhancing and healing is to have a high level Adveturing fellow and cast enhancing and healing spells on them. They act as enemies of equal level as far as casting on them goes.
My fellow is 80 atm and casting cures, protect, shell and other enhancing spells on it brought my under leveled healing 100-300 and enhaning 80-298 fast. Its a good idea to change fellows job to a non magic job so it dont cast protect and shells on its self.
