FFXI Xbox 360Follow

#1 Nov 04 2012 at 7:52 PM Rating: Default
I recently found bought a Xbox 360 and I am looking into playing FFXI on it. A few questions I have is where is the best place to buy the actual game disc? Is it even needed? Also how does updates and add-ons work? Do you buy it over Xbox Live? I also was told Xbox Live Gold Membership is not needed is this true? Any information someone can give me would be greatly welcomed. Thanks in advance guys.

I did look at amazon and this game is going for $64.99 for used game is this the only place to get? I remember seeing this game at GameStop for $29.99 but maybe its out of print.

Keep looking for a better price, you're bound to find one at decent price. Yes you don't need XBox Live Gold to play FFXI, the standard free silver membership is fine however keep in mind that if you ever upgrade to Gold and have a monthly subscription and for whatever reason payment doesn't go through all online gaming activity is suspended including FFXi since your account is linked to a Gold account.

If you manage to get a used copy of the latest XBox disk (FFXI Ultimate Collection) you'll still need to get registration codes to activate the game and expansions, the cheapest way to do this and has been mentioned multiple times is buy the game on Steam, you'll receive all the codes which can be used on any platform to activate the game and expansions, and yes the disc is needed to play FFXI. Updates to the game take place on all platforms and buying add ons can be purchased on Playonline but all add ons are already downloaded and as I mentioned once you get the registration codes and input them all content will be unlocked.

I use to play on PC and bought the codes through Amazon. If I can find those codes will they work on Xbox? That was about a year ago though.

Once you install FFXI, you can just login with your old account on xbox then.

Wow the cheapest I can find this game is literally $60 and that is used with no case. Before I shell out that kind of dough I want to be sure there is no where I am overlooking. So does anyone know of a website or anything so I don't have to take a freaking loan out to just buy the disc? Thanks for all the help so far and hope to see you all again soon slaying some orcs.

Also I am only talking about the 2009 Final Fantasy XI Ulitmate Collection. Will other collections or version of the game work and still get me all the expansions? I have played on PC for years and have purchased these on PC already but not sure if that will carry over. I am guessing I just need something that has the main expansions and the rest I will have since it was DLC like mentioned above.

You could get away with the 2008 collection as the only difference is that the UC code has the first 3 add-ons which are downloaded anyway.

I'm really hoping once they release the new expansion they'll put out another XBOX collection. It's becoming incredibly difficult to find copies anywhere anymore.

Just to chime in with my usual: Don't play on 360 if you can help it. There is no reason whatsoever to play on 360 if you have a PC version available.

But that's what's missing here: Why are you digging up a 360 version?

HD? PC does it.
GUI improvements? Whoops, those are PC only.
Controller? Plug one in to your PC, what the hell?

Just list everything PC does that 360 doesn't, and divide by everything 360 does that PC doesn't, and you'll have divided by zero.l

re: Raelix

I've been considering getting an xbox/copy for xbox because my computer is a giant beast that I can't move, and I totally wouldn't mind hooking it up to my little tv so I could (say) do missions etc from bed.

Also, have considered getting a second account and leveling up a whm mule for some of the more difficult "solos" out there. I'm not sure my comp could handle running two instances of XI at once, and frankly, I feel like it would be more simple to just run one char from xbox.

However, all of this is rather low on the "spending mah money" priority list, so it is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

That said, otherwise I agree... don't get it on xbox if you have a computer to run it on.

Why get a 360 instead of a small laptop then? Let's take the $300 you'd drop on a new Xbox and the $50 for a used set of discs... Oh look, a laptop with full keyboard and HDMI out. Install from torrent, plug it into your TV, plug your controller and maybe a keyboard into it, but you can still alt-tab instead of having to leave the room to look up where and how you're supposed to shove stickmcguffin up joeblow's plothole. Hell, you can even pick it up and go play while you're sitting on the *******. You don't rely on the most unreliable console ever being able to read your disc to let you play, you get all the visual upgrades coming to the game, and you don't inflate the apparent playerbase of the next platform on the chopping block after PS2 goes out the window.

There is still no feature 360 offers over PC version beyond a small margin of price point if you buy a used console, but even that is sketchy since I could probably Craigslist a laptop that can run FFXI for $50.

Buying a new 360 to dualbox or play in a more comfortable room or on a larger display is simply a farce. If you already own a 360 it still only makes slightly more sense.

And yes, the 360 still has issues with Voidwatch and Besieged.

The looking things up thing isn't a problem because I have a tablet, and I often use that even on my big computer instead of tabbing out.

I can see where you are coming from, but with a tablet and a big computer (and my partner has an older mac laptop to boot) I'd much rather spring for a 360 than another computer. If only to play some of the interesting console-only games out there (few as they may be) in addition to XI.
