So there's a thread some of you have probably seen over on ffxiah.com's forums but just in case you haven't I thought I would share it.

http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/33640/50000000g-bounty

This guy Urteil (A Rag/Apoc/Lib/Calad DRK) has placed a 50,000,000 Gil bounty on his own head and wants to see if anyone can beat his DRK/RDM in 1v1, first to three kills and any job combo will be accepted. If you server transfer to beat him he will also send you $25 via paypal to get home with. He is apparently a heavily skilled DRK and PvPer with many folks backing up his claim to skill. If you check his profile on the site, his idle set is ridiculous. He has a few stipulations like no meds/consumables and he is not willing to fight in a level capped 1v1 or on the test server. So what do you think could be this combo? I fear that everything comes down to who lands the first stun/sleep/break.

Makes no sense. Sleep Bolts = Win? What does he have planned? Does anyone else find this suspicious?

Suspicious? If you challenge him to PvP, you lose 30 mins of your time. Since there's clearly no risk to you, I don't know what your concern would be.

That's one fight down, but you have to win three.

I wonder if an equally beefy PLD/RDM or /BLU with Ochain could whittle him down slightly faster than visa versa. Chances are though this guy is a champion of stun/sleep/break and run behind someone if even for just one unblocked hit at a time.

I read a bit of the thread, and it sounds like he's got gear for just about anything people can throw at him. There's a lot of trolling being done in that thread, but I don't think any of it is being done by him. He sounds like he's got the skill to back up the claim. I don't ballista, but he sounds cool to play against.

There's an old video of his participation from four years ago of fighting a PLD (page 5). Of course, he is better now than he was. He fought at least four opponents who took up on the offer. So yes, there's no trolling from his end.

19 pages of smack-talking in that thread...countless people claiming they **could** beat him, or they "would do it if not for x", but not one single person that has mustered the balls to actually accept the challenge and fight him.

Multiple sets for multiple jobs his opponents can be. Duh? Even if that don't matter, he knows many different playstyles to keep things fresh for himself.

Ballista can get gritty at times (as gritty as FF11 anyways, it's not L2 or Tera), and drks can make you feel like you're in digital Compton quite easily.

I'm sure if it was as easy as 'sleep bolts lol' or 'just cs nuke', he wouldn't be willing to put out 50m gil from his coffers. If you read through his posts, he regularly uses /sch (sublim will eliminate your sleep tactic) and he states no items, so even if his opponent chainspells, it just takes one blink (from his mage sub) and one stun>guillotine that will ruin your plan. I think a bluemage has the best shot.

I hope he streams them.

Having played ballista with some of the greats "back in the day", I can say drk is one of the better jobs in there, even at 75 when gear selection was pretty abysmal. A good drk, good mnk, and good pld were all the most long-standing melee fighters that you had to watch out for.

No consumables is a silly rule, since poison pots are an essential part of ballista to avoid sleep.

I can say from experience it's far more about 'avoiding debuffs' than it is anything else. I recall using tricks like double-resist-stun/bind earrings from cactuar rapido combined with the elementa-resistance ribbon from limbus gave a huge boost to survival. I personally went from fearing some of those melee, to hunting them on BLM. Minus-spell-interuption gear also helps a good deal for casters. At my peak, I had established a gearset that made it nearly impossible to get silenced, since at the time, we had several skilled RDM's had become the biggest pain - constantly silencing people as their first action, which effectively shuts-down any caster (You literally couldn't use echo-drops fast enough, because you'd get re-silenced before the echo-drop action finished)

Back to point, on the DRK, you'd need a resist-stun/bind set, a job that didn't need to cast, and something that could midigate TP gain without the use of utsusemi (poisonga / diaga will eat shadows much faster and easier than you'll be able to keep them up). Assuming he's using Apoc, you'll need to avoid hits in order to stop him from healing himself / gaining haste boons.

This pretty much leaves a very-well geared / skill-capped MNK, and maybe a defensive sam/whm (sam/dnc I think would be harder to manage in a 1v1 melee) are the only things I can think of that would stand a chance. sam/whm can silence with GK fairly easily and self-haste / erase after that, but at the end of the day... without poison pots to avoid sleep and echo drops to remove silence, I imagine it'd be messy as hell.

Would also fancy a BLU having the best chance short of a mirror match amongst DRKs. Would be funnier if it's done via something cheesy like blastbomb kiting.

Isnt this just more proof that PVP in FFXI is broken and that there is absolutely no balance? I really dont understand why people are enjoying that...

You'd never be able to do anything against a job that has multiple ways to keep you silenced. If he's saying "no consumables", this means you stay silenced til you die.
#19 Oct 12 2012 at 10:03 AM Rating: Good
The rules are the same for both characters though, so as annoying as lack of consumables might be, it's an even playing field. You can walk in there DRK/RDM if you want, I just think no one is willing to step up. He's letting you post videos, so you really have nothing to lose. If he bails, you have it on video, doesn't pay you, same thing.

I know people complain it's all broken, but it's broken for everyone.

Ah yeah, this is the same guy who'll run up onto you and your friends killing EP mobs in Dynamis since he's "too good to kill DC++ enemies" then brag about finishing relics in x amount of time on "hard monsters only". I should post those videos.

He's also the same @#%^er who'll state: "You shouldn't have FC'd here this is my spot even if I'm not here, I can come here and FC ontop of you all day if I choose to" and proceeds to do as such (at the height of FCing even in empty spots.) So yes, the reason no one "steps up" is because most people don't want to deal with this dumbass lol.

Has the rules over server transfers changed?
Didn't you used to have to stay on that server before you could hop back?
As I see it, you need to pay for the first hop, wait 3 months and pay same amount again before coming back to your original server.

Where did you "hear" this? I'm fairly certain that if someone accepted the challenge, beat him, and didn't get paid they would have posted about it.

He also completely supports people video taping their matches/conversations. If he back down from his word there would be proof.

Never had much interest in PVP myself, but this is a pretty amazing and ballsy move. Any gear or merit this guy has should be able to be acquired by someone else. Unless he literally is the best player in the game, someone should be able to beat him, if only by being better at whatever tactic he uses to win. Totally interested to see how some of the fights go down.
