Server merges?Follow

#1 Oct 07 2012 at 12:33 PM Rating: Sub-Default
Have Square mentioned anything about merges coming any time soon?

I came back yesterday, kind of as a test and I was really dissapointed how much the player numbers have dropped.

If not is there anywhere I can check which server has the most english speaking players now?

If they did, it would only be so they could put out a press release about opening eight more for the influx of players with the new expansion.

The overall server populations aren't that bad really. A steady 1k+ most of the time on Lakshmi, and it's one of the more moderately populated servers. I think that you might have just hopped into it at a bad time.

I noticed people tend to only be on during prime time.

It used to be that the numbers were artificially inflated from folks muling crap in Rolanmart, or just afk in general. Now, the number of bazaars and afkers is down, as people simply shout when they have something valuable to sell, and someone will probably buy it.

You might of logged in at a bad time, I rarely see less than 1k on Quetz, and when I do there's usually a reason like just after the update; people were having crash problems so they didn't log on. (Scared me for a couple weeks; I never want to get merged into another server, tho the other way around wouldn't be bad)

1755 on Fenrir right now, but that's the Japanese creeping on. Usually a steady 1000-1300 on during the day.

Yup, Fenrir up to 1900, and it's just right to be honest. I remember when they were merging and Unicorn was usually sitting at 800 during my play times, I loved it. Then came the merge, server's hitting 3000-4000 people, couldn't get anything done. There was competition everywhere in Abyssea, even for lesser NM's that were always wide open on Unicorn. Even exp party camps got crowded no matter where you went. So having lots of people on isn't always the best of things, but I do see how it makes the world seem livelier at times.

Want a merge? Just move yourself to Lakshmi! #1 existing server due to former Garudians and Lakshmians all working together!

Also, populations havent really been receding, have they? Ive seen new players and returning players more often since I came back to the game than when I left in 08-09.

Either way if it really is problematic you could always switch to a different server.

Or find a linkshell and then server population will never be an issue again.

Well when I used to play FFXI before I had linkshells and did things with them all the time.

When I came back this time I wanted to avoid that, I wanted to meet new people and do content with as many different people as possible. I love the interaction with lots of different people in these games, to me going back to the linkshell only content again is stale and if I had to do that I wouldn't come back.

I played other games in my off-time and had to do that, that was one of the reasons I wanted to come back to FFXI. The community was just so awesome and meeting so many different people was great, this is one of the biggest failures in gw2 and ffxiv for me..the communities for those are terrible.

About a year & a half since the 2nd round of server merges, now that enough time has passed for some perspective, do people feel that 2nd round was for the best and necessary or do they feel generally as they did then that they were unnecessary?

I was moved to Odin from Ifrit, and it was a rough start. Odin didn't want us there, and we didn't want to be on Odin. But now, it's not so bad. The 2 server populations have integrated well, and personally, I've made some good friends on Odin. That right there makes the move worth it to me.

you guys really think 1-1300 is good? if there is 1,000 people online.. thats like 200-400 just afk bazaaring.. 200-400 multiboxing.. that really does not leave many people actually playing.
#17 Oct 08 2012 at 3:59 PM Rating: Excellent
Even if that leaves only 400 people actively playing, it's just fine if all 400 are trying to do the same things. (Those dual boxers are still doing endgame activities AND competing with you for the NM you're trying to camp.)

I'm sure everyone else really enjoys not having quite as much competition. Servers with fewer people playing are great.

Besides, i've lost my character name once in a server transfer, i (and i'm sure a lot of other people) are not going to keep playing if we lose it a second time.

I've found the number of interesting shouts on Asura has dropped somewhat significantly but my /sea still shows tons of people online. Are a bunch of them afk in the gardens? Sure but there are still lots of people doing random things.

I don't think larger server populations are needed. Anytime I've shouted I've gotten people together for whatever in a decently short time frame. What I do think is needed is some way for people to organize around 3-6 person content that isn't shouting. I REALLY want to do meeble burrows but 3/4 of my LS is too busy with school to commit to a static or going on a break to play other games.

It's a real bummer and the design of the event doesn't seem super shout friendly (in terms of the tiers of progress and everything getting wiped when you do a boss)

Just last night I wanted to finish up my bst AF3 body, 3 of us hunting Koios. Turns out we could team up since none of us were after the same thing, but still, even with lower populations there's competition. The mergers have been overall an ok thing, especially for VW and such still requiring a higher number of players.

Man you should see the battles on Bismarck for TIII VNMs. Too many people trying to make Ochains and Dharps... I'm about halfway through my Colorless Souls, and at this point my LS has a standing policy of dropping everything and farming VNMs when we're in one of the zones and no one else is hunting them.
