Change the Graphic settings does not applyFollow

#1 Oct 02 2012 at 7:46 AM Rating: Decent

Hy

I'm an old player mayself who came back last week to the Game. I bought the Game online via Steam Website, downloaded the game, started it, and even did the upgrade. After a nice and big upgrade, i finally got to playing FFXI wich also works fine..

But i wanted to change some things in my game configuration like play it in Window mode, and playing it with the best graphic setting. Via the Steam "plugin" i have access to the configuration menu of my game, but when i change things there, i do not have any changes in my game, when i log in after. Does anyone of you had the same problem...maybe someone could help me there. Ty

Mia

if you are looking to adjust the graphics you will need to adjust it via the registry to really be able to notice a change.

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Graphics

That should help you out.

The items changed in the Config are pretty mundane. The best change you could make, is to Background Resolution. But tbh the graphical changes aren't going to be OMG AWESOME different whatever you do. Old game looks old.

Also, to make changes via the Steam tab, you need to make sure you are saving the changes you are making. I know that I have forgotten to do that, and had to redo it because of that.

There is an Apply or Save Changes button.

Funny thing is, i change setting via the steam tab, also save it at the end, end when i look at the registry, i can see, that the settings there too have changed (best example is window mode witch is set to 1 on registry and on steam tab...

But when i launch the game via steam tab or directly via playonline, nothings is changed...

Orz, another case of Steam not playing nice with the game. Assuming it dumped the POL folder and all that into the Steam directory, look within the specific FFXI folder for the config utility and try running directly through there. Steam may certainly be setting registry values, but it may not be setting the ones the game is actually calling, especially if this is the same PC you'd played on before.

Na its a new PC, and i checked and found a Steam Folder, but nowhere i can found something with FFXI.

Even when i look up the configuration.exe with the find function, i cant find find it nowhere on my PC. it is like the config menu isnt running on some virtuell Server at steam, and not on my PC.

I believe the utility is called ffxiconfig.exe

Also, I installed with steam and never used steam to launch the game. Everything works fine. Im not sure if the problem arises from using the steam program to configure or launch the game, but I wouldnt recommend using steam to launch this game.

A certain unofficial program allowa you to config the game before launch and is a very convenient utility. (If you arent afraid of that)

Alzo, run without UAC, as admin, etc. If you insist on launching or using the game with steam i would recommend turning the steam overlay off, as it generally has issues with quite a few games.

Its really ot important for me, to start the game via the steam platform....but i have the problems to find the installed FFXI-Files on my PC. No FFXI folder anywhere....

Gonna make a search on my PC again for the config.exe, maybee i can fint it

I have a question though about the registry file.....

i have currently 2 folders on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\PlayOnlinexx\SquareEnix\FinalFantasyXI

once PlayonlineEU and one PlayonlineUS. The registry is located in the PlayonlineUS, but maybee it has to be in the EU folder. But this is only a theorie. Maybee someone can tell me if im right or wrong about it.

...Or just use the third party windower application via the GUI launcher and change registry settings painlessly. Not that any of us would ever use third party applications like windower or anything.

First you need to figure out if you're using the US or EU version, because now I figure you're changing the settings for the other.
