Assuming you are in north america, you'll need to create a Square Enix account here if you never did that before (hit the big red "Register new account"): http://www.square-enix.com/na/account/

Once you create an account and log in, you may need to link up your old POL account to the new SE account. Go to "Select Services" on the left hand column, hit FFXI, and find "Transfer Playonlin Account." Enter in your old Playonline account number, and that will import your account info into the new SE account system. Then you can apply the codes Steam sent you to your old characters.

I made a post on our linkshell forums regarding how to go about starting up a SE and POL account with less confusion.

If people want to view it:

Hope this helps!

This question seems to get asked a lot... I did this process a few months ago myself and remember it being very obtuse.

Sticky?

Seems relevant enough. A new sticky it is.

Hy

Im an old player mayelf who came back last week to the Game. I bought the Game online via Steam Website, downloaded the game, startet it, and even did the upgrade. After a nice and big upgrade, i finally got to playing FFXI wich also works fine..

But i wanted to change some things in my game configuration like play it in Window mode, and playing it with the best graphic setting. Via the Steam "plugin" i have acces to the configuration menue of my game, but when i change things there, i do not have any changes in my game, when i log in after. Does anyone of you had the same problem...maybee someone could help me there. Ty

The funny thing is after reading this the actual question never gets answered. I understand you have to go to the square enix account management website, login, transfer POL account to SE account, but where do you enter codes ?

On the square enix account website.

Go to Services and Options
Pick Select Service
Pick FFXI

At the top are two big buttons.

One tells you to add codes to existing POL service accounts.

One gives you the option of entering the code to create a new POL service account.

If you add codes to an existing account, you enter in the code, and then select the account you want to apply it to.

If you need to create a new account from a Steam code, you pick "Create a new POL service account."

SE did sort of hide them, and they look less like buttons and more like random pictures at the top of the page.
