You may have heard of the FFXI chiptune album released in Japan a little while ago. For those who don't know, a chiptune piece is defined as follows.

'A chiptune, also known as chip music or 8-bit music, is synthesized electronic music often produced with the sound chips of vintage computers, video game consoles, and arcade machines, as well as with other methods such as emulation. Wiki'

Anyway, this album of FFXI music was released in Japan and now it's coming to EU and NA e-stores.

You can get a taster here.

Apparently it's not just XI tunes that are getting released.

Quote:
Square-Enix previously released a Final Fantasy XI chiptune album in Japan only, titled ‘XI Chips – FINAL FANTASY XI Chiptune’, but it never released in the west.

Fret no more, as ‘Chips’ albums for all games from Final Fantasy 7 up to 11 will be hitting the American and European Square-Enix eShop soon.

No date has been given, but retro fans should check these out at launch. We’ll post the release date as soon as we get it.

Big Final Fantasy vinyl collection is coming soon

Square Enix Music noted in a recent interview over at OSV that they had a lot of plans to celebrate the music of the Final Fantasy series before the franchise's 25th anniversary is through. There have been compilation discs and the VII-XI Chips albums announced since that time, and most recently, Square Enix unveiled a limited edition release titled Final Fantasy Vinyls.

The collection will apparently span five records, featuring 30 analog remastered tracks and a booklet supervised by Nobuo Uematsu. With Uematsu's involvement, you can probably guess that this will feature a lot of classic Final Fantasy music, although with 30 songs, this is going to be a 'best of' selection.

Final Fantasy Vinyls will be released on November 11, 2012 for close to $150 USD and can be pre-ordered at CD Japan for those who are interested. It will come with a download code for mp3 versions of the music, so you can count on this being mainly a collector's item.

List of contributing artistes - http://www.famitsu.com/news/201211/06023920.html

The 25 re-arranged tracks are spread across two CDs.

Previously, all but one of the artistes were already revealed back when the tribute album was first announced.

Today, Square Enix revealed the name of the final guest artiste who would be contributing to the album: Aoi Teshima & De De Mouse (手嶌葵&DE DE MOUSE), who has been enlisted to do a dreamy arranged cover of Final Fantasy XI‘s Melodies of Life, originally performed by Emiko Shiratori.

The 2CD compilation V.A. Final Fantasy Tribute ~Thanks~ will be released 5 December 2012 in Japan for a retail price of 3,000 yen.

First press editions of the tribute album, when purchased at either Tower Records or Village Vanguard stores in Japan, will come with a bonus Rare SQ disc, which contains a further nine tracks. Details on what’s included in Rare SQ will come at a later date.
