Old school FFXI LSFollow

I just came back the other week. I had read and knew that things would be different but man I had no idea. I can say that it is nice to be able to level like I have been. Have NIN up to 40 after 2wks. Took me 6mths to get RDM there back in the day.

I was farming my subjob stuff last week though and I gotta say, I do kinda miss the old dune parties. Dont get me wrong, taking 2 wks to get from 10-20 DID suck. Yet sometimes you got that one party, where everyone knew thier role and did it, and you would blow through 10-20 in hours. And seriously, who doesnt remember sitting next to the Kon zone, laughing thier asses off as parties ran by trailing trains of 6+ lizzards. Or before the aggro fix, having to clear out cause they would aggro you next. Or going to Yhoater and having a WHM who didnt cure on sleep. Or Yatunga and the THF who couldnt get SATA right. etc etc.

I do like the way leveling works now. It makes it so much easier because of work and life and all, but yeah, I do miss the fun of the grinding parties too. Hell, when leveling a job you would sometimes end up parting with the same people over and over. By the time we hit 50 or so you wouldnt even be stopping to heal anymore. Just kill, pull, kill, pull,............... We managed it in the 15's sometimes. Holler if you happen to be on Odin. Character is Trantic.

Edit: Think of it this way. At least we dont have to compete for campgrounds.

Back in the 'old school' Vana'diel, none of those things would have been possible for me. I often only log on for an hour at a time unless I specifically make some time to play. I often need to duck away quickly if one of my kids gets into something they shouldn't. There are so many reasons why the old Vana'diel didn't work for casual players that have virtually disappeared today.

I had a long rant about how a game loses what made it great, but I had to stop myself. FFXI might still be running, inextricably strong, but I believe what a game is founded on, what many people remember loving, is important to maintain even through longevity. Much better to die quietly than to lose ones' purpose. I left FFXI for WOW and although completely unique in their own form, they are eerily similar.

Both, in their origin catered to an popular niche - one of an immersive journey, the other of a stiffling war. (FFXI was about the journey, WOW was about the end game pvp and content) I loved WOW for it's pvp. It was raw emotion when killing someone of the opposite faction - the immersion. They lost that idea as time went by. As for FFXI, it may still be fun and in fact more fun, but they lost their original vision.

So my belief is that what I miss I don't think I could legitimately get back, and that is what is sad.

You're new here, aren't you?

Yes. Because what I implied was to not make any additions. Trolling aside, most people think a game needs to make everything from launch obsolete in order to add in new material.

btw: I'm on bahamut looking for a LS :)

The link to their forum is broken and there was no response for poor summai for more than a month. What does this possibly tell you? You should go here and hear from a more established user. You're welcome.

Too bad this isn't on Cerberus server. I came back after 4 years, and I miss the oldschool. Brutal as it was, i miss it.
#35REDACTED, Posted: Dec 12 2012 at 3:39 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) the biggest problem i have is the low population servers. back in 04 the pops were like 7-8k+. easy to find parties at all lvls. until CoP hit then things started to change because pops went down and everyone had achieved some satisfaction.

Funny, ToAU released and the population was still around that high. Then WotG released and the population was only a little lower.

i like the fishing and camping and running around especially from AH to AH. but now with the low pop servers you almost have to level the way it is now. just to hit 75. and it seems like the crafts are a forgotten skill. miss the old days. but with 14 rereleasing maybe we'll see a true rebirth.

Yes the game is on easy mode now. Everything can be done in low man groups. You want to see crafting then create mules and have it. Want to level old school, then shout and find others that want to. There was a shout for a six man traditional party two nights ago on my server. Feel free to want to run around to every city to check the AH, I believe that most of us enjoy not having to travel or have mules in each city.

7k-8k online at once? No, pretty sure that was never true. Right now it's fine, and ~2500 (which is somewhat common) is on the scale of starting to be overcrowded.

When the server merge happened, some servers that got merged into were unhappy because they didn't need a merge. Things became overcrowded.

Are you guys still recruiting? I'm currently installing the game now as I quit before the level cap rises a few years ago. It's not so much that I'm old school, more like that's the only thing I know about this game now.

Is this LS still active?

I'm considering coming back to the game and would like to get in active LS with low lvl players...

I played when the game launched in NA and for a couple of months in 2010. I liked the slow lvling process and the community back then and would like to get back into the game.

Or is there any other server with lots of returning players?

According to FFXIAH, this person has not been active since mid-October. I suppose it's hard for a LS like this to have staying power.
