Currently 72WAR. My Great Axe and Axe skill are right around 218 or so, which is equivalent to the approx. caps for level 62. Only 10 levels behind, I haven't let them slip too far behind, as I made a couple stops at Kuftal Tunnel to keep things skilled up.

I'm ready to hit Boyahda Tree for some more skill ups. Are there usually people there in skill up parties that you can just join, or duo up? I found in Kuftal Tunnel, that it was a rare occasion that I wouldn't find someone to at least duo with, if not a number of people that you could join. Or is it wise to bring a group with skill up intentions?

That said, if anyone else on the Bismarck server around my level / skill level would like to go to Boyahda Tree, let me know. I usually play nightly between 9pm and 11:30pm Eastern Time. /sea all Braewyn

Worst case scenario, sub Dancer and pull crabs to Ramuh's zone and you should be alright solo.

I thought they changed Boyahda tree's upper-floor crabs to be IT to a 90~ something now, I remember watching a youtube video of a BST on the test server with a completely different set of mobs up there now.

I often sub /DNC so no problem there. Maybe I'll just head there tonight. I'll ask some LS folks to join me, if not, I'll wing it and see what I discover once I'm there.

I haven't been up that way (Sanctuary of ZiTah and all that) in a very long time.

What is / where is Ramuh's zone? As of now I'm mostly unfamiliar with Boyahda Tree.

The B.Tree
The Map
Will need Sneak and Invisi, so use meds. Not Spec. Jig.

The zone is under a big water fall.

Buy the skill up food Saltena with you. And I can't find the skill up chart, but you might not even need to go up top. The crabs found on the lower level might still skill you up...but I'm not 100% on that as I usually move between the 2 if/when skill-ups slow way down.

There are puks/crawlers/ and... something else that are VT to 99s, but not "up top." You do have to go up, and down I think to get to them (the spot is on map 3 for the new mobs).

I'd say a 72 WAR is gonna have a rough time with Steelshells as they could still spawn Tough to people at 75 when this was the skill up hot spot. I would instead suggest grabbing sanction/signet/whatever in the past and go to Vunkerl[s] and pick on the crabs around the fort. They'll likely be EP, but the Pugils can spawn a little higher, too. And since SE tweaked skill ups a while back, I believe he should be able to get hits pertinent weapons to WS quest levels

Past that, though, I'd say just try to get to 99 in a good party then reap the benefits of defensive buffs from signet and such, with Vunkerl making a good spot yet again with the level 95ish non-aggro/linking crabs and the occasional wandering pixie to revive you if you screw up. Cap haste gear and sub DNC if alone, of course.

This post made me nostalgia hard. Does anybody remember the patch where they added "The" to the auto-translate for (The Boyahda Tree)? It wasn't just the tree, they did it for many other zones, though (The Eldieme Necropolis) is the only other one that springs to mind. Ah, how I miss the days of shouting Chef (Boyahda Tree) in Lower Jeuno before going out to shop at the Rolanmall.

It might be worth checking out some of the Aht Urhgan areas. Heck, it would be worth popping in to get double food duration Sanction (yes, this would work in a Sigil zone too, we know) and eat one of those skill-up foods before going out to the tree.

That was exactly my experience last night actually.

I brought an 87WHM friend and I instantly saw that the Robber Crabs were too easy. We killed about 8 trying to get coffer keys and I may have gotten 0.3 skill ups the whole time.

Then we moved on to Steelshells, or should I say Steelshell (singular). Got a good handful of skillups from it, but it killed us. I learned quickly that Boyahda crabs are either too low or too high at my level.

Lots of good advice in this thread I'll take into consideration. Thanks everyone.

Since crabs are what you are usually after for skill ups, I'll give you a little helpful hint for what I did in those levels for skill.

Go to ffxiclopedia: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category:Crabs

You'll see a list of crabs and their levels.

Since you know robber crabs are too low, and steelshells are too high, you'd instead look for some crabs that fall in-between that level range.

Greatclaw : 66-69 : Sea Serpent Grotto
Wootzshell : 70-71 : Mount Zhayolm
Wootzshell : 72-73 : Arrapago Reef

I can tell you that in my skill up sessions a couple years back I skipped boyahda tree all together and went to Robber Crabs in Vunker Inlet S because they cap out a level higher and are very close to the past-warp. From there I went to Mount Zhayolm (I have skilled up in SSG, but I usually skip it because it's a pain to circle around for so few crabs) and found a nice spot with lots of wootz crabs (it's near a statue or grave of some kind, i can't remember exactly, but it's near what looks like a ledge of a mountain).

Finally, keep in mind that if all you are interested in is skill, if there aren't a lot available and the XP/drops don't matter to you, it may be best to use lower level / low delay weapons and only "chip away" at a single crab for a long time. You don't get skill if you hit for 0 on the crab (unless it's been changed in the last 1.5 years) so you want to hit hard enough to cut through that, but not much more. DPS? No sir, my game focuses on SPC : that's "Skill Per Crab".

Thanks, yeah, I've kept some of my older weapons around so I can hit more, and keep the crab alive longer. Unfortunately with Great Axe, they are all slow, so skillups are tough. Dual-wielding axes on the other hands, yield a lot more skillups.

I'll definitely check out Sea Serpent Grotto for those Greatclaws. That might be a good place to go. I've also found that I'm continuing to get respectable skillups in Bostanieu Obli all while raking in exp and having fun. So I'll continue to level down there for now. No level syncing either.

As an aside, cause this won't help the OP at all... but man do I ever love the Voidwatch Warps... getting to Mount Z. is a breeze now. What a difference! I mean I guess I could do the portals or what not, but I didn't even have to go to mount Z to get the VW warp there and it is way more convenient to just run down to qufim than to much about with portals.

What to, or someone want to, point me at info on these warps? I've not even touched WotG xpack (well I did the 1st like 2 mission/quests..what ever was needed to flag getting VW stones). I read people being able to get to places quickly, and I'm still running the long way -.-

Why do people go anywhere but Abyssea for skilling up these days? Are they so concerned for their irrelevant performance in the Exp runs that will get them to 99?

Put atmas on, ding 99 while you skill up on Worms. Making this WAY too complicated.

The kind of person wanting to skill up at 72 doesn't have any atmas. But the rest of it I agree with.

Yeah, then it follows that you're better off dinging your ass 99 to make it stupidly easier to skill up afterwards, atmas or not.

I can see someone fairly new needing to skill up for Maat fight though.

Skill up in the Palborough Mines (The zone is in Bastok Mines). You can do Gates of Valor while you're there for a little bonus EXP, brown chests have a chance of giving you the ring with +Skill up rate on combat skills and there's usually some people there. Most of the times it's people getting paid to powerlevel mules but sometimes you get normal folks who will be willing to help. The mobs check easy prey to 99 so not sure if they will wreck a 72 but you could give it a chance.

You're thinking of Zeruhn Mines, not Palborough. Palborough's at the northeast corner of North Gustaberg.

I think you may be able to get the amber stratum abyssite just by talking to the npc in Wajaom. Then you can teleport using the voidwatch npcs in the present.

Quote:
"[dev1054] Voidwatch: Aht Urhgan Jurisdiction

Voidwatch will continue with new operations in Aht Urhgan.
Eligibility
Adventurers level 75 and above who possess an Adventurer's Certificate may initiate the mission by talking to the NPC Camille in Wajaom Woodlands.

*The Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion is required to perform operations in this jurisdiction."

Sorry for the derail OP.

Yes! Thanks Vlor. I grew up in Sandy and transfered to Windy when my dad got a new job, we never got to spend much time in Bastok since grandma died so I never really learned the neighborhood.
