Dual BoxingFollow

Because google is not finding me the As to my Qs, someone(s) here has to know :D
I have been doing some axe trials with my BST and have found I have bad luck with certain weather and mobs, so the easiest way to get the 1st few trials done (for me) was to sync down to get the kills. To do this I just fired up my 2nd account. So now it is active for at least the next month, so why not try some dual boxing fun?
My issue(s):
Really just one, I'll be using DualSend through 2 Windower screens (on one screen, big enough I can just make 2 windows of ffxi). I "could" click back and forth between the 2 or I could just make macros to send to the 2nd screen. But setting up Dualsend is the issue. Does it need to run from within Windower's folder (ie: do I need to put the .dll file into my apps folder, and then enable it in windower's init.txt options). Is it it's own program that I need to start before/after I'm in FFXI?

I play with a controller, so I don't really want to click back and forth to fire off macros.

Basically any help would be fantastically awesome.

I use it through the run plugin, but I don't think that's necessary. Simply having it running should be sufficient. You can do some config if you want it working over a network but if you're just running locally that's probably not needed either.

Just use "//send Secondchar /command" from your first character to control your second once DualSend is running.

Ok.
Do I place it the files in the corresponding folders within Windower, or is this it's own program? IE:does the windowerhelper.dll and the dualsend.ini need to do into the plugin folder with in Windower?

I did launch it, I did log into both my characters and tried a simple command: //send Char2name "/tell Char1namm hi"
to see if it worked, and nothing was ever sent.

Basically wanting to get follow and attack/heal commands to work from 1 screen, so I can play in a larger window :3

I think I have it figured out, some what.
I did manage to write Macro on my 2nd account, that would fire off on my Main. Basically PLed myself without swapping screens.

So I guess I can explain what I've done Llester if you want to know what I did, and what seems to be working best for me.
You need Windower, so that means you have to be playing on PC. You will need 2 accounts. You need DualSend. Windower has a site, google (because I don't think I can link it here? I still don't know the rules on the subject). Google DualSend as well, it is from the windower site, but it is quicker to google search to find it imo.

Create a folder on your desktop (or w/e) and DL and unzip Windower to it.
Set Windower up the way you wish (I was playing on like 600x800 screen, now that I've got it working I'll be going back to full screen).
*Either run the same windower again, or create another folder for #2's, if you plan to do a bunch of macros and stuff it may be nice to have Character 1 and 2's not mix.*

Create folder for DualSend, unzip it in this folder.

Sign in, log in, alt-tab or minimize out, sign in and log in on other account.

Run the .exe found in your new DualSend folder.

**If on Win7 you need to run both Windower and DualSend as Admin**

try a simple command to see if it is working: //send charactername "/tell othercharactername hi"
If all works out, One of you characters will send the other a tell message.

To write macros on one character to have the other one do, you write: /console /send name "/command text(like a normal macro, not sure if using auto-trans will work)"
ie: To get my main to cure my alt (who I was on) that macro was: /console /send Tsukaremash*ta "/ma Cure <t>"
where my main was always targeting my alt. So I was able to use the <t> target method.

I need to find the right wording now to have like Cure II go off, because in the same macro above, addin "II" or "2" did nothing. Nor did "Cure II". But there is another add-on to use with windower that should clear that up for me.

I plan on, once my alt gets to the right level and unlocks the job, to DualBox Ranger. In my head it sounds fun. May also do BST, even tho my main is 99 already :p

You should give this program a try then: FFXI Switch Monitor

I've used this for a few years now, and it's absolutely amazing for dual boxing with a controller. What it allows you to do is map a button(s) to switching back and forth between however many instances of FFXI you have running. There's even the option to disable switching to them, in case you're like me and also like to have a bazaar mule running but not constantly switch over to it while running other characters.

Thanks for the info. I do play on pc with windower but i <3 my 360 controller. Ive put off dual boxing for a number of reasons but the controller thing was a big one. Just seemed so clunky to me. But now....

There shouldn't be any issues at all with just
/con /send Tsukaremash*ta /ma "Cure II" <t>

as the macro. You do not wrap the /ma within "" as you wouldn't do that with a normal macro anyway. " " only wraps around the spell name, nothing more, just like the natural macro parameters are.

Of course, like you said, there's also Spellcast to help you along if the macro lines are too long and you could easily switch that to
/con /send Tsuk /ma cure2

in order to shorten it even further if you needed to.

I ran three accounts and my roommate ran two, and I found it easier to actually name the character I was healing since I ran with a WHM and a BRD (WHM heal on CTRL row 1, BRD on ALT row 1, third account was a NIN at the time) to prevent any problems with target swapping even in the simplest of areas. Since I played it purely on the keyboard and can type fairly quickly naturally I just shorthanded any misc curing I needed to on the fly.

I read anything after [...] /send name [...] , that was longer then 6 letters needed to be wrapped in "s. I'll give it another try later with out and see if it works.

Yea I don't like putting the controller down, or quickly one handing it to the mouse to change windows :3 (I'm lazy). However, my big issue, and thanks Reiter (I'll look into your link), is I could be in one window, but be controlling the other one's. Weird, and it got old fast lol. Now I can leave one minimized and still be ok :D
