I hope not, Discernment isn't as big of a deal as the +2 fishing, but I'd still like it to have a complete fishing gear set. I even quested the Trainee's Spectacles even though they're no good after you hit level 40 fishing. Still look cool though Smiley: thumbsup

I totally did that too, and I quested the trainee's knife for my cooking that hit 70 in 2006, just because it looks cool.

Yeah, those torques were so annoying to get. I was somewhat lucky with my boneworker's torque, but that was probably like planets aligned properly sort of luck.

I spent a week solid, from last Friday night until this afternoon working on it. I probably put in at least 4-5 hours a day, and had some LS mates come out for a few hours one night to help burn through pages and get prowess' built up. Ended up with 4/5 casket discovery increase and Windurst mystery boxes kupopower.

Congrats Wint!

It took me about a month of farming caskets to get my Fisher's Torque, not everyday but I'd go 3-4 days at a time before leaving to punch things. I'd say it took me about a week in the Maze to get the rope. Think the rope has a bit higher percentage than the torque of being in a casket.

Oddly enough, within the first hour of xp-ing on D-Weapons on BST...I had 2 Alch. Torques...Course, wasn't anyone in the zone at the time I popped the chest that had the second one...feels like such a waste. I would have gladly let anyone there have it.

Additional generic congratulatory message. Smiley: tongue

Anybody know if there's a woodworking torque? I decided to pursue that instead of smithing, mainly as a tribute to my wife's grandfather, who has made her a tremendous amount of handmade furniture over the years.

You had been in Quicksand Caves for so much longer than I had been in Uggalepih and I knew you were really getting frustrated about it. I felt bad about telling you that I got mine so quickly (relatively speaking) and I wanted to wait until you got your Tanner's Torque so you wouldn't feel as bad.

To be fair I used a simple Java program that you just input the hints you get and it spits out the left over numbers and a best guess (which is the middle number). Really on the 5-guess chests I was guessing after 2 hints to narrow it down, on the 6-guess chest I could open those almost always. The nice thing is it doesn't matter which type of chest, the torque can come from either.

OMG, call the GM! Seriously though, I'd hardly call that cheating Wint, it's just less work than doing it in your head, which is what I normally end up doing. However the point I start guesses at depends on the hints. If I know I can find an answer with the number of guesses I have left (number of possible numbers has to be <= (2^Guesses)-1 for me to start guesses), then I'll do it, otherwise I use the hints until I get down to 1 guess, at which point I take a stab at any of the remaining numbers.

With 6 guesses though, you should be almost always able to open the chest even without hints, although getting a good hint does make it a lot easier. A "good" hint is something like "the first digit is 3, 4 or 5", it's knocked out 2/3rds of your possible solution space. A "bad" hint is something like "the combination is greater than 29 and less than 60" after you've already had the first hint above, i.e., it adds nothing to the solution.

Yep. When you've opened as many chests as I did though, you don't want to figure anything out manually anymore. The Java applet was very helpful at figuring out when to start guessing numbers.

I suppose - this isn't coming from experience as I haven't tried burning through chests for anything just yet, but I would have thought the mental exercise would have been a nice break from the mindless slaying of Vana'diel fiends. Oh well. Regardless, congratulations, think I missed that in the first post ^^

Was it just me or did anyone else laugh pretty hard at the hint of "the combo is 10-99 and you have a hunch the combo is greater than 11."
Lol!
