Congrats, Cat. I got a scroll of Arise, which various people in my LS are trying to convince me to sell. It's apparently going for over 10 million gil on Lakshmi (someone said up to 40 mil), but I'm not sure I want to part with it yet. I do plan on leveling WHM, and I did pick it with the intent of actually using it if I got it.

I'd sell it. Chances are the price will drop eventually, and/or SE will add alternate places to win it. You can make a cool 10 mil now and rebuy it back for a tenth of it when your WHM is leveled.

****, WHM was my first job to 75 and one of the first to 99 and one of the few jobs I routinely play, and I'd sell it.

If you go WHM to Legion, I'd use it. If a DD gets one-shotted at some point the spell will get you back up to full power 2 minutes sooner.

You'd think a Paladin with an Aegis would be able to survive magic damage or something. Smiley: oyvey

Funny related story --

Not too long ago, I got blown the @#%^ up by a Nightmare Cluster in Dynamis Tavnazia... *with* Sacrosanctity on. It still did around 3-4k damage, easy 1-shot to the whole group, and that's around the kind of damage I've seen these things do before without Sacrosanctity. I am absolutely certain Sacrosanctity was still up and did not get taken down by some other sort of attack (there were no messages in the log ever saying it wore off).

The only way I could see that kind of thing happening is that whatever sort of Self Destruct I got hit with was not treated as magic damage, but probably some sort of "special" damage similar to what Spirits Within does. I know clusters have at least two different kinds; for instance there's the one that kerplodes the whole cluster and one that just kerplodes one bomb in the cluster.

Point to all this is, it's possible that whatever Self Destruct is killing your Aegis-user might actually not be magical damage >_>

Edit: I actually took a screenshot of this event because I was so flabbergasted by it at the time. Gonna go find/upload it...

Here it is.

This was an ordinary bomb in Ifrit's Cauldron, not a special Cluster or anything along those lines.

MDB (Sacrosanctity) doesn't affect all kinds of magic damage. Specifically, it doesn't affect breath damage. Bomb explosion damage is based on monster HP, so it's possible it's technically classified as breath damage. Aegis doesn't affect breath damage, so that would explain that as well.

Yep, sell it. I got a Percolator the week it was new and sold it for a million. If ever I do feel the need to skill up Kenbishi faster (and magic is already capped), they're down to 250k now. Rare drop stuff is generally going to be more expensive early on, as long as the event is being done.

EDIT: something awesome: 1) use ark scythe 2) fly onto a Galka's shoulder 3) RULE BARTERTOWN

I never quite understood why people would choose specific prizes over others. I can understand when it comes to something ra/ex (in most cases), but take people that chose the scrolls from rank 2, for instance. Sure, by choosing said scrolls you'll get it right away if you win, but if you choose something that will sell for far more (marrows, riftcinder, etc), you could easily sell them off, buy the scroll you want, and still have many MANY millions left over to spare. A quick search on AH shows that even a single marrow can in most cases buy a scroll of arise.

Well, there's the problem of, at least on my server though I imagine the same is true on others, where it's just impossible to actually sell marrows for a decent price. People are going in and farming them to sell them, but there's not enough people wanting to buy them, either because the people selling them are trying to sell them for too much or the people needing them would rather farm them from a shell.

Pretty sure Marrows would sell overnight at say 13-14m each on any server. That's still 65-70m. Could buy your scrolls or even stuff like sagasinger from a ls that does ADL.

I picked Arise mainly because my WHM will be 99 LONG before I ever fight Provenance Watcher, let alone get the drop from it.

Some of us don't pick our items based on how much gil they'll make us.

The point is that (according to FFXIAH), Arise is roughly 10-25m on most servers, with marrows being roughly 15-20m. That means you would only need to sell 2 marrows at most to be able to afford arise, and still have 3 marrows to make 45-60m+ on. So in short it's:

Arise, or Arise and 45-60m+. See why the choice is a bit confusing to some now? Why wouldn't you want the scroll AND a boatload of money to go with it?

I didn't realize that Arise was EX, and the only way to get one into your inventory was from a PW drop. >.>

Exactly. Not to mention that with that much money, just sit on it for a few months and Arise will probably cost less.

Shorter weakness is nice, but not freaking dying in the first place is even better. (EDIT: or maybe using a freaking RR item before the fight!) I have no interest in this for my WHM, since I already have R3, and this is mostly a situational **** novelty spell.

Mainly because I didn't know at the time that marrows were being bought for that kind of gil. However, it's kind of a moot point now, since:

1. my choice was already made, and
2. the contest is over

The real problem is with scrolls like Arise and Meteor I can literally count on one hand the number that have actually gone on SALE at the auction house. They're so mind-meltingly rare that most people who actually get the drop use the scroll rather than sell it on.

Stuff that costs 8 digits and up usually doesn't even go on the AH cuz you end up taking it up the *** from taxes (regardless of whether your stuff even sells or not). You gotta check shouts and bazaars for that kind of stuff

That's why you go to FFXIAH and look at the bazaar listings (apparently thanks to the Guildwork client stuff uploading the info every time you check someone).

Of course I was looking at that page yesterday (as part of checking on what Arise actually does) and it had to fall back to "nobody on your server has it in bazaar, so we'll show you the eight servers that do have one person selling it" mode. So yeah, it's still rare as ****. And PW is a lot harder to get to than Shinryu, and lots of people still haven't done the Shinryu fight yet. So it'll stay rare until something either makes PW easier to get the drop from, or something else starts dropping it.

But I still say it's a situational spell that does little more than give you a 4th Raise to help with people who are too stubborn to use RR items.

And then there's Meteor. In PJ yesterday there was some conversation about someone who had just gotten the scroll. Consensus was sell it unless you've got four or five other BLMs you hang with regularly for endgame events, since it's not so great alone.

At least it's a 100% drop of Arise or Meteor in Legion but they share the same slot.
