It looks like one of those bad ffxidats uploads where somebody has grabbed a few vertices and stretched them out to turn a sword into an axe.

How did anyone wield a sword with such a large blade and tiny little handle O.o

Especially centuries ago, El Cid was probably a vitimin deficient Syphilitic. Ya know, like everyone else.

Back to the task at hand, I'm awaiting my Liberator Squeenix. Make with the goods.

I'm a RDM main and I think the Murgleis looks utterly ridiculous. Worse is that the stupid bits tacked on are supposed to be used for parrying, but the weapon has no stats relating to parrying whatsoever, for a job with horrible Parrying skill.

But still, I chose it as my rank one prize since I would never, ever actually work toward one. >_>

Rdm is a fencer who realized that now matter how amazing they are at fencing, rapiers, épée, and sabres are..... not really designed, nor remotely appropriate, for fighting monsters. They're pretty much anti-personal weaponry, and even then, are really only suited for unarmored or very lightly armored opponents. Sure, SE ignores reality most of the time, like with greatswords, which are way to big and unwieldy to be practical; scythes are likewise impractical in design (save liberator), due more to the placement of their cutting edge; straight, curved, long, and short swords, and rapiers, all use the same stances and styles; all* hand-to-hand weapons are considered blunt damage, no matter how many cutting edges they have, nor how long and piercing-weapon-shaped they may be; and crossbows are typically faster than Longbows, but don't hit as hard (which is, historically, the opposite case most of the time).
*: ignoring the two/three special case h2h where not dealing blunt damage is their entire gimic

Then again, Drks are the only job that can really make good use of great swords and scythes, and they are, essentially, superpowered by evil spirits, and even then, the weapons are still big and slow, just like they would be. Wars and Plds can make use of Great Swords, but not effectively, and the same goes with Bsts using Scythes. With all five sword types using the same style of fighting, rather than a more individually appropriate style for each, it greatly reduces their effectiveness, and is reflected in how swords are not really one of the great DD weapons in FFXI, even if that's partially due to the two jobs with high Sword skill being non-pureDD read: Mnk/Sam/War/Drk/Drg are pure DD, in that 90% of their JAs/JTs/Gear/Play Style are focused on melee damage output, where as pld is a tank, focusing on survivability, and hate generation, and blu is a hybrid that balances melee and magic usage (and rdm doesn't even count, since it doesn't have access to any of the key sword ws (Vorpal Blade and Sanguine Blade; requiescat being the exception) without subbing one of the jobs that does. The only ones that aren't really justified are H2H damage types and the crossbow/longbow relationship, but really, if h2h had access to all three (Ignoring how h2h is technically "striking" damage, not blunt damage, the difference being that striking only gets a 12.5% damage boost against mobs like skeletons that take 25% extra damage from blunt weapons) damage types, mnk would be pretty OP, always being able to take advantage of damage weakness and suffering almost no drawback in doing so (unlike war, which loses a good bit of it's damage output if it wants to change to piercing or blunt damage), and since crossbows and guns are treated as the same skill, which is fairly realistic, if not perfectly accurate, and guns of FFXI's level are understandably the slowest and hardest hitting of the ranged weapons, having both forms of marksman ship be slower and stronger than both forms of archery would make archery fairly pointless

More like a wizard wearing a fencer's clothes. It's analogous to the goth kid that dresses in black and makeup and does the club on the weekend... but on the weekdays, just works a register. S-E's execution of the fencer concept is mostly an image, the function shares more in common with BLM.

I'd say it has more in common with whm, really. Rdm shares more spells in common with whm than blm, if you account for all of the bar/gain spells. It even has access to some melee gear, like whm (compared to blm which has **** for melee gear). I see rdm as a blm that thinks it's a whm but tells everyone else it's a war.

I always thought red mage was considered a "Parryer" becuase it's a fencer.(At least it's heavily implied.) And in fencing especially when done as a sport there isn't much dodging, there's parrying. However the swords used in fencing seem really impracticable to me against other traditional weapons for parrying so that's why their skill is so low?

Well, history lesson. Fencing grew to be in-effective ever since the development of armor. Only unarmored noblemen would still get some use out of it to settle their feuds. But even regular swords did very little against an armored knight. Most knights were in fact captured, and not killed in battle by popular belief, since first of all, they were practically invincible against most weapons anyone could bring to the table, and second because holding a knight for ransom was far more rewarding than simply killing the poor sod. The only thing that had some effect were large bludgeoning objects, since they would crack bones and bruise tissue underneath all that armor. Even chainmail and the likes were (again against popular belief) made to atleast resist or grapple piercing objects.Constricting them in the mesh of chains so that they too would leave very little damage.

Given how much one needs to strike a monster in this game, one can easily asume they have atleast natural armor or a very thick skin. If most weapons are ineffective, a rapier especially isnt going to do much to them. Hence, fencing died out, and Red Mage can be nothing more than just a mage who isnt strong enough to hold a real sword, so they got a rapier.

Sorry, i just really want my Aegis to be delivered, and i've grown bored waiting.

You don't. Not even remotely close. Bi-polar is a form of depression, typically signified by someone possessing stages of both deep depression and manic (essentially the opposite of depression, but not "happy" so much as excessively energized to the point of it being a bad thing, though that's a very rough translation to layman's terms) tendencies. Schizophrenia and Dissociative Identity Disorder (Modern, more scientifically accurate name for multiple personality disorder) are both separate from and unrelated to Bi-polar disorder, and Clinical Depression in general, as well as from one another. Each is distinct, and fairly obviously so if one looks fairly close at all (Especially since Schizophrenia is not itself a diagnosis, but rather a category including several very individually distinct diagnoses, like Depression, but that's a topic you can use wikipedia for), even if non-educated individuals can't tell the difference between them. /psychmajortoenglishtranslation

I woke up at 4:00am today after dreaming that my wife has received an ark scythe in her DB. Couldn't get back to sleep... I'm worse than a kid on Christmas Eve, I swear. Win or lose, I'll be glad when this is over and done. I hope the next "Bonanza" event stays on schedule.

It was actually Parrying, the one right at the end. I kept switching it with fighting becuase I reread my post and forgot what I was trying to say. And you think I am bad typing you should hear me talking.

Me: Oh btw I have eggro.
Ls on vent: Dude every time you say aggro it sound like you are saying you have Eggroll.

You've never heard Exo on vent. I love to give him **** when he does something like pronouncing the "b" in "subtle" or using entirely the wrong vowel, like in bazaar (He said it stress on the first syllable, and using a short "a" like in bat for that syllable. It was painful)

Conversely, he never lets me forget the unbelievably stupid **** I did as a 14 year old, so it's a fairly even trade off Smiley: laugh

Where did they say that? The last post on this subject on SE's forums was this on 27th July:

Quote:
Hey gang!

Just got confirmation that things are still moving according to schedule (our "in July" time frame) and that prizes should hopefully start appearing in lucky adventurer's delivery boxes soon! I don't have an exact time for you for when it begins, but one thing to keep in mind is that prizes will be delivered in order, so it may take some time before all of the prizes are completely distributed.

We'll make sure to post once we have confirmed that all prizes are sent out!
