Hello friends,

I am a new player to this game. About myself, I have played World of Warcraft intermittently since 2008, starting at Wrath of the Lich King, and it has been my primary MMORPG. I've played a little bit of The Old republic (boring in the beginning, got a little better once I got the starship, unfortunately my sub ended), Tera (alright game, faster paced), and a tad bit of Guild wars.

My situation:
Currently a level 7 Galkan warrior in Sandoria; name is Isual on bahamut server, and would like some help regarding leveling up, more specifically where are the best places to level up, and what kind of gear should a warrior at my, and subsequent levels should wear ?

thank you.

For gear, make sure to always get signet from the gate guard before you leave town. It is a protective spell that makes weaker enemies easier. It also allows you to get crystals (which you should sell in stacks of 12 on the auction house) and conquest points (you can use conquest points to buy gear from the gate guards) - just buy whatever gear you can from the gate guards - and the cheapest stuff you can find on the auction house for now. You can worry about getting better gear later.

Check enemies before you attack them. You should be aiming for "easy prey" for the most part, because your gear will suck and you don't have a sub job. There are floating books around outside. You should check them and do "training regimes" or whatever they are called. Pick one with the easiest possible prey abundant prey you can get exp from. I like doing the page with birds and saplings in the zone outside of the city. I usually camp by vomp hill (leave city from bastok mines). Once you've done a few pages and have tabs, grab the regen buff from the book.

Also there is a series of beginner quests your moogle will tell you to do, given by someone named Guldago I think in Bastok. Do it, it will give you a free exp ring, a reraise earring, and some beef jerky.

Tip: make sure you've turned "auto-sort" on in the options/configuration (or whatever) menu. It will save you hassle.

get yourself to 18 or so and join an alliance bashing skeletons in Gusgen mines. Make sure you get a magicked skull while you're there (ask to lot it, people will be cool). When you've gained a few more levels, go to valkurm dunes, and get a damselfly worm from the flies there and a crab apron from the crabs.

Then take those three items to an old guy by the water in Selbina. He will offer you a quest to increase your power. Trade him the items after he does so.

You will now have a sub job. A sub job can be equipped in a mog house or at a nomad moogle. It is a maximum of half your main job level. You get access to the passive skills, abilities and spells of your sub job when you have it equipped. You need to level your sub jobs separately from your main job

If you were on Asura I'd offer to help out, hopefully we have some folks on your server willing to lend a hand.

Thank you all for your replies. Are there a lot of people on Asura that can help me, less so on Bahamut ? If so, I'd be willing to pay the 25 dollar transfer fee.

Also, regarding that free exp ring, is that only in Bastok ? I am currently in Sandoria, and if there is a similar NPC that gives an equal ring that would be cool.

I couldn't say, and I don't think I'm on often enough for it to be worth the $25 Smiley: smile

Every city has them, here is the item page in question with NPC locations:

oh sorry I thought you were in basty... I saw galka and went into auto-pilot. god I am braindead today, only got 1 hour of sleep last night.

Also, don't pay 25 dollars if you want to change server - just delete your character and start over, better to redo 5 hours of play versus paying an exorbitant fee.

Thanks for the response. I am somewhat still getting the grasp of the game, and have opted to use an xbox 360 controller in lieu of MnKB. It's just more ergonomic for me; the control base of MnKB for FF11 is stupendously inefficient for movement and combat; or I've just been too use to playing point and click MMORPGs.

Anyways, I am currently level 13, and I have that Empress ring that helps with exp. Apparently, you can only use it once every 16 hours. A bummer.

Any other tips ? I'm also trying to farm ding bats for that mission in sandoria; the item for it just won't drop.

Many players simply forgo the mouse and only use a keyboard. I use a combination of WASD keys and the numpad (depends on the keyboard) for movement and the arrows for camera.

I usually recommend skipping the controller for the keyboard since you never have to switch between the two. Macros are also one touch rather than thumbing through to find the right one.

The controller is probably easier on your hands though and I know many who use it for that reason.

If you check out the job forums, you can find some pretty good stickies which will give you links to threads of all the basics.

Warrior Index

Warrior's Arsenal - Gear guide.

That being said, I've not played for 2 years, so I'm not sure what the subjob protocol is these days. It used to be WAR/MNK until 30, but I would imagine /DNC would be more useful with the style of play at the moment?

edit: Oh and I can't stress this enough. If you're playing Warrior, use a great axe. The "Shield Break" weaponskill lowers your target's evasion, which will make gaining exp early on that much easier.

/DNC would indeed be better for leveling WAR to 30. Bit of a catch-22 there though given that Dancer requires having a job at 30 before it can be flagged. Smiley: wink

Fair point actually. I'd imagine MNK would offer more survivability than the other starting jobs.

Hello again to everyone, and thank you for your responses. I am now a level 15 warrior, primarily doing missions. I have a question on missions for cities, can you do all 3 cities and rank up to 10 ? Also, are there any missable ones ?

I am still getting the hang of the game. I actually had to ask a level 99 to help me with mission 1-3.

You can do the missions for all three cities, but it does come at a temporary cost*. At some point, in order to receive new missions, you'll need to either turn in crystals to a guard or repeat some missions multiple times. As a result, there are a few city missions that are skippable, but unless you immediately start trading crystals every new rank, you probably won't even notice.

*Talking to a guard and completing supplies quests allow you to open up outpost warping, but to complete missions for other cities, you'll need to change your allegiance. Since your supply quests are city specific, you'll lose all of your outpost warps, but you'll always be able to switch back to that city for your warps. Please not that changing is not free. There is a fee based on the nation's rank.
