You won't like it. I played FFXI for 7 years and loved it. I also played FFXIV. If you thought FFXIV was overwhelming with the amount of stuff to learn, etc, you'll find XI even worse. Don't get me wrong, FFXI is a great MMO and superior to XIV, but there is also a ton more to learn and understand in order to enjoy it. Neither XI or XIV is anything like FFVII.
Like other people suggested, try one of the other 11 offline Final Fantasy games.
