is your FFXI Config still not loading properly? There is more than just the resolutions that need to be set properly. There may be more issues bound to the registry keys than just 001-004 values. If FFXI Config is still knackered up, then there may be something missing, corrupt, or not registered properly at the system level. Hate to say it, but I've heard horror stories of people actually having to go back to an OS install to resolve some issues. Could try grabbing everything you can via Windows Update I guess to see if that fixes any potential issues like maybe a RAMDAC or VB or something bizarre like that.

Yeah it's still messed up. I honestly don't know what could possibly be causing this due to the fact that I've had the problem since the initial install, well before I messed with any settings. I could try a factory restore type deal but I feel like it might be just a hassle and not solve this issue.

Background res definately doesn't have to be equal to each other.

Maybe go through the other registry values and check they are within correct limits:

0000: 0,1
0007: 0,1
0011: 0,1,2
0017: 0,1
0018: 0,1,2
0019: 0,1
0022: 0,1
0034: 0,1

I'm unsure what the other entries are, but on my PC they are all set to zero except for:

0029: 12
0031: 1002740646

I actually found a tourital on the registry for this game and everything I have now matches what you have posted. I even found a guide for using the config menu when it broken via changing setting as it would in the registry. I suppose the registry isn't my problem, it must be some strange issue that I can't even see. Thank you all so much for your help though, any further suggestions would be much appreciated!

I thought I would throw my solution into the pot for those who were struggling with this issue like I was.

I had to change the screen resolution. Not in the config, but in windows itself. My screen was at 1920X768. When I switched it to 1024X768, the game finally loaded.

Pretty annoying, and now I have to find a way around leaving my resolution at 1920X768 as i'm playing on a 55" TV, but i'm just happy I got it to load.

Haven't experimented with any other fixes and I wonder how high I can "push" it before it will give me the error again.
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.

Interesting. I should add that once I actually set my desktop resolution to 1024X768, I was able to set it again to 1920X768 and load the game. Weird errors, lol. But if anyone is having those issues, try that too.
