Magic not staying sortedFollow

I just recently switched to PC, and now every time I log in, my magic has gone back to the default sorting.

Is there some way to make it stop that?

You are logging out normally, right? If you disconnect or something it doesn't always save your organization, macros, etc...

That's the only thing I can think of off-hand.

I am selecting "Shut Down" from the menu, like I did on the PS2.

I logged out, and stepped back all the way to the Playonline Log In Screen, and my magic was still sorted when I logged back in.

So I guess I figured it out.

Just a note, if you switch systems your items will switch back to a default sort every time. It's because while the items themselves are stored on the server, your preferences for sorting and such on each POL installation are local settings. It's a bug of sorts, if you will.

Once you re-sort them they'll stay the same unless you switch systems again.

Also, if you select the "sorted" option for any set or magic or JAs, it will remove all your hard sorting work from ALL of them. I did that a couple of times long ago before I learned to not do that.

JA's tend to not hold sorting very well either, just in general (as soon as you change jobs most JA's go back to wherever the hell they want, this is annoying since some jobs, like DNC, rely heavily on a massive selection of JAs).

I think they really need to do some "tweaking" to this function of the game so things can "stay" sorted properly.

I never did the xbox-to-pc back and forth thing when playing, but you might want to try 'forcefully' backing up your settings at the character select screen before you get on your xbox (I forget what it is, something like shift+cntrl+b at character select). I don't know if it takes into account magic sorting, but if it does you could just reload the settings file before your next PC session.

That is for your Macros, and I was able to do that.

It also was not that I was going from platform to platform, it just kept reverting to the default between session A on the PC and session B on the PC.

Once I chose "Log Out" over "Shut Down" it seemed to save the magic the way I had sorted it.

Worse is when a newer main job JA gets shifted around when you change subjobs, even if you changed back to the same subjob from a different one! It'll revert to sort of a 'default' sort at first, falling somewhere in the middle, but Nether Void on DRK likes to jump around all over when you switch between /SAM, /MNK, and /DNC. Sekkanoki from /SAM will jump around too if you change main job and back again but stay /SAM.

What always gets me is if I switch main jobs, but keep the sub the same, my JA are sorted as sub at the top, main at the bottom. If my 2hr isn't at the top of the list, I know I'll set it off by accident.

What bugs me is that the default sorting puts your 2hr at the top of your JA list (sometimes it's the only entry if you're low enough level). When you start the game from POL, it defaults the UI menu positions to JA and the first item. So I go hit the joypad button 4 times to do a WS and it pops my 2hr.

This gets really fun when you're on Ninja.

I have trained my fingers to do a left ctrl pad and a down ctrl pad, so that I do what is second on the list in a lot of cases. Like hundred fists will be at the top of the list, and focus will be second on the list. Auto Re-Sort can make this embarrassing, I agree.

I think you missed my main point: the menu that lets you choose JA/WS/Ranged/etc. defaults to JA. Then when you change it to WS, it stays at WS. And when you pick a WS, it stays at that WS. No amount of "training" your fingers will help when the unusual situation (you haven't used WS yet) happens, because your fingers don't know what the current position of the menu is.

Though I do sometimes button-button (pause and take a quick glance to see that the shape of the menu is right) button-button. It can also help me avoid doing Combo when I want Stringing Pummel by glancing after the third button.
