Final Fantasy XI: Ultimate Collection Xbox 360 Not $ 9.99?Follow

#1 Apr 14 2012 at 10:05 AM Rating: Good
Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this. Well recently I wanted to get into this game after finally receiving my first debit card. (YAY!) So i hopped onto the play online site to buy the game, to check the prices, in which was $ 9.99 and my instant reaction was "Score!" so i go down click the links, have two errors on the game stop sites and then click amazon, and now its saying to get the game brand new it costs $199.95...? I could go buy all the separate expansion packs and the game itself for less than that, am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be great. (And before you say buy it on steam, my computer can barely play 2d games.) Thanks.

Unfortunately, yes. SE has not released new disks for Xbox in several years, and the few that are out there are pricey and rare.

What you can do is buy the Ultimate Collection used on eBay, then buy the $9.99 PC version to create your account and unlock all the content. The accounts are interchangeable on systems within the same region (so make sure your used disks are NA if you buy the NA PC version.)

Ah I see that's a piti. Thanks for the advice, ill do that. Though If I might ask, is the silver boxed one the ultimate collection? http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=190663990716

You can actually just get the Vanadiel '08 disks used, since the rest of the stuff released is all DLC anyway.

If you're quick there's one selling for $12 plus $3.99 shipping but the bidding ends in 28 minutes...

So would that actually work? Buy a used copy for 360 then a new one for pc? So, let me see if I got this right. You use the new PC game to create an account using the registration code. At which point you can create a Playonline ID. Then when you pop in the xbox game, you just use the account from the PC and it will work for the xbox? Would you need the same expansion for the xbox that you used on the PC? (Example: The pc has all the expansions but you just buy the original disc of FF11) Or would you need the xbox disc with the same expansions? Thanks. And sorry if this is a little confusing.

Also, with that being said, would I need to buy 3 copys of both the pc and the xbox version if I wanted to create 3 different accounts for 3 different people?

Registration codes are universal. You just need the discs for the initial installation.

For example, you buy the 2008 Vana'diel Collection used which includes the game plus the four expansion packs. You then purchase the Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition through a digital retailer (such as Steam) and they email you the registration code. The registration code can be used for any account of the region that you purchased it in (e.g. NA registration code only works for NA accounts). The registration code will register your account with the game, the four expansion packs, the three add-on scenarios, and the three Abyssea add-ons.

After your account is registered, you'll download the latest version update. During your update process, PlayOnline will download your add-on expansions since they are a form of DLC.

TL;DR Yes, you can buy a used copy for the 360 (Make sure it includes the Wings of the Goddess expansion) and use a PC (Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition) registration code.

If the three people are all in the same place, then you only need one copy of the xbox version, since it is only being used to install the game. You will still need three registration codes. It is probably a good idea to use three separate SE accounts unless the people are related.

But doesn't the xbox require that you have the FF11 disc in the xbox in order to play? If thats the case I would need three xbox versions right? And then 3 PC versions just to get the registration codes.

Only if you have three Xboxes that will be playing the game all at the same time.

I switched from the PS2 to the 360 for my dual box character. I found a used FFXI 360 on amazon or gamestop, can't remember for sure, for around $25. Then I bought the ultimate abyssea collection download online and used the codes for the 360 character. The 360 just needs to have the disc for all of the expansions; RoZ, CoP, ToAU, and WotG. The online code works for all the other downloadable content. The only thing that you have to factor in is that you will need to have different accounts if more than one person is playing at a time. Since I enjoy dual boxing, I have to pay two subscription fees every month. My point of this rambling post is that you can get your 360 running FFXI, with all of the content, for around $40 dollars if you can find some good deals.

Thanks everyone. I just have one more question. How long does the installation take? I've tried it twice now but it keeps stopping at 38 minutes. Is this normal? How long should I expect it to take?

damn, I had 1 extra copy of a 360 08 collection and I just gave it to my coworker. (not opened) If he didn't install it yet I can ask for it back.

I've only ever used PS2 and PC, so I forgot about MS's paranoia, but I thought it had a way to completely install itself to the xbox.

So anyhow, you should only need one FULL copy with WotG for installs. If you need a copy just to make Microsoft happy, then I suspect you can use a less complete version.

Go to steam, right click FFXI, and get your registration key.

Ok, well how exactly do I get to that step. By that I mean, do I need to download and install the game or can I just start download, pause and then it give it to me. I've seen posts about that a few times.

When you buy the game you will recieve the registration code through email. Atleast if you buy it off SE. I don't bother with Steam.

got a hit on a short how-to via a quick google search. May be a better guide out there, but this looks about like what I recall others went through in the past:

1. Create a Square-Enix account and follow its directions.

2. Login to the Square-Enix Account Management.

3. After you login, click on "Select Service" on the navigation bar and click on the "Playonline / Final Fantasy XI" link.

3. You'll be redirected to a page that will give you two options to enter your key. Click on the "Add new Playonline Service Account" link and enter your CD key.

3.a Through the process, if it tells you that the key you inputted is for a different region than your account region, I have some bad news for you but Steam gave you the wrong key.

3.b To get the actual key that you need, go to Steam and click on the library tab.

3.c Right click on the "Final Fantasy XI..." to bring up a menu; on this menu, click on properties to bring up a dialogue box,

3.d In this dialogue box you click on the "Local Files" tab.

3.e In this tab, click on the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache."

3.f When its finished verifying, it should change your keys to the appropriate ones for your region. I had to verify twice in order to see my new keys.

4. After you registered the key to your Square-Enix account, you'll now have to register for a Content ID. To do this, you'll have to repeat step 3 to get to the "Services and Options" page. On this page, click on the "Options List" button under the "Active Service Accounts" header (this shouldn't be too hard to miss).

5. On the top of the new page, look for the "Character" table and click on the "Add new options" button.

6. Read the fine print (if you want). Click on the next button to continue on.

7. Add how many characters you'll want. I suggest just one for now. Click on the next button and finish up the business end.

8. Run "Final Fantasy XI..." and login to Playonline. This is a pretty straightforward step.

8.a If you don't know your Playonline ID or Playonline password, you can review it again in an email that Square-Enix sent you. It will be titled "[Square Enix Account] PlayOnline Registration Completed" so go check your email for it.

9. When you first login, you'll be asked to create a Playonline Handle. Do so now.

10. When you finally get to the Playonline menu, click on the Navigator link on the navigation bar, it should be above "Final Fantasy XI".

11. On the dialogue box, click on the "Handle List" link.

12. Click on your handle and another navigation bar should pop up on the right.

13. Click on the "Link" link.

14. Link your Final Fantasy XI to your handle.

15. Go and try to play the game. You're all set now except for the fact that you'll have to wait for five hours to update FFXI. God damn patches man!

16. After it's done patching up. You're free to play the game. Enjoy.
