Can't get my controller to work.Follow

#1 Apr 26 2011 at 5:19 AM Rating: Good
I have tried both my ps3 and logitech controllers and neither will work with my windows vista. Need help please.

Ok so this is what I have tried so far. The ps3 controller does not work at all.

The logitech will work on the playonline screen but not in the game. Yes, I have gone to Playonline viewer config and changed the setting and also used the gamepad configuration

I have read threads and found someone posting to go to Motioninjoy and get the driver. It does not download.

How do I get this thing to work?

Sometimes Windows doesn't automatically detect the controller. I had to contact Thrustmaster customer service to get some advice on mine, and in the end the solution was to manually install the driver. They've since contacted Microsoft and gotten themselves added to the auto-detect pool.

Contact the manufacturer of the controller you want to use the most (say, Logitech) and ask them for help.

I use a standard PS2 controller hooked through a USB adapter that I got from RadioShack. It works like a dream. In fact, when I started playing this game for the very first time, I thought "Hey, this is a PS2 game.... I bet it would work fine with a controller on PC" and haven't stopped using one since.

Well.... except for the year and a half that I wasn't playing the game. Dur.

How did you hook the PS3 controller up to your pc? I have no experience with that controller, so I don't know if outright hooking it up through a usb port will make it work. There are always workarounds to make it work over bluetooth, but you'd need a BT adapter for that and then some external program to make it all work. Something like that. I tried it, didn't work, I stopped trying and went back to the wired PS2 controller.

Is your logitech controller (silly question, I'm just making the rounds) usb as well? Vista should just see it as a game device of sorts and since you can change the gamepad configuration outside of ffxi, do the cursors move in the little test areas when you try to configure it? It'd be really odd for the config program to register the inputs, but not ffxi. You said you went to the playonline viewer config, but did you use the "FINAL FANTASY XI config" program?

I fully advocate using a controller to play the game. Completely. Of course, there's nothing wrong with keyboard controls. Figure out what's best for you.

Make sure you configure the controller in both PlayOnline Config & Final Fantasy XI Config.

Thank You!

There is no Final Fantasy XI Config that I can find.

Found it lost away in a file. On a side note, when typing in Final Fantasy xi config in the start search it will not locate the file. Have to search through the files.

Locate your Playonline file checking under "All programs" and open the folder for FFXI. You'll see FFXI config as an option. You can then adjust a game controller. Make sure you save before exiting though.

I have Final Fantasy Xi through Steam, and I used Motion Joy, and the settings seem to work...and I found the FFXI options/config when opening up the game...asks to play game, change Playonline settings or FFXI settings. I had changed both, and the game worked reasonably well...but now doesn't work right, though never tampered with any settings. The left stick, that controlled the character and movies in the menus when it loads up before starting the game no longer work...the D-pad now controls all that...and the two sticks do squat now.....but when I enter the FFXI config, the sticks and d-pad work just fine. I just can't get it to work again.

i play on a game console since i started playing ffxi.
then i had to start playing on a laptop now that im away from home.
i got the game from steam and got the controler to work on the laptop, but not on the game.
so a ingame friend told me to go to ffxi config, but i cant find it; can this be cuz the game was downloaded from steam?
do i need the actual disc for the game to get ffxi config?

I don't know how Steam installs it but you probably have a Playonline folder on your start menu. FFXI config should be listed there. I am not on my computer at the moment but maybe someone who is can get you the direct path to the FFXI config EXE file if you can't find it in the Start menu.

.../PlayOnline/SquareEnix/Final Fantasy XI/ToolsUS or ToolsEU/Final Fantasy XI config, with "..." being the path where you installed, default is probably C:/Program Files/ .

I had the same problem, go to your device manager and disable your Nostromo drivers. This worked immediately.
