With the influx new/returning players lately, I've been thinking about making this post for a while now. Alobont's recent post inspired me to get go ahead with it. I originally made this a journal post so I could link it in appropriate threads, but it was suggested that I post it in =10 and submit it for sticky.

I'm open to suggestions for changes/additions, but this is just an introduction, not an in-depth guide. That's what Wiki is for.

Good post.

However, I found that the best way to get used to Abyssea is to jump in feet first, and ignore anyone who gets annoyed because you're not an immediate expert.

Most people are nice and friendly, and will be willing to explain what does what - simply because it benefits them, as well.

Might want to include that we have the new 'ultimate edition' pack that includes the 3 add-ons in it.

I have my key item, but who do I talk to in Port Jeuno to get teleported to Abyssea?

In order to teleport to an Abyssea zone, you must have entered the zone at least once previously while having a Traverser Stone Key Item.

I did up a printable pdf table of lights, pyxides and weakness triggers for myself and have been sharing it recently with friends returning to the game. You can find it here. Hopefully some will find it helpful.

So what is the current level cap?

Are old school HNMs soloable and/or duoable?

This is a great help.
Do you know if the ultimate collection abyssea edition will come to xbox 360?

You said level 30 you can get the quest to enter Abyssea? Do you get this quest from the same guy that gives you a traverse stone?
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.

Yes. Once an Abyssea add-on is purchased, you should receive a cutscene upon the next time you enter Port Jeuno. Talking to Joachim after the cutscene should trigger the second mission, giving you your first Traverser Stone and granting you access to Abyssea. Traverser stones will start accumulating with Joachim at this point as well.

It will never come out on disk. You can use the code of the existing download for ANY console however. It will unlock all the abyssea add ons and the mini add ons (a Kupo etat etc). You will still need the xbox discs for the real expansions though.

Thanks. I bought the collection that came out in May, so I have all add-ons. I got a nexus cape, and some statue too. I talked to him and grabed my traverse stone, now to just visit some Maws.

I would like to switch to my xbox, I have all the add-ons and stuff connected to my account, so all I need to do is install the game via game disks right? On amazon they want like 150 bucks brand new for the game, I guess I should try ebay for a used copy.

Yes. I believe that is all you would need to do.

No need to buy new since the registration code for the abyssea collection is a legal copy of all expansions etc.

That said, you do realize xbox is less reliable than PC for playing, right?

And you can plug a wired xbox controller right into one of your computer's USB ports and use that with the pc...

Really it's less reliable? I use a controller for my PC, and I mean I love the PC version, but I feel like my xbox hasn't been getting the love, plus I want to relax on the couch.

FFXI was ported to xbox years after the game was released on PC and PS2. It was more of an afterthought to bring in a new group of players. It doesn't run horrible on xbox, but it definitely has it's share of bugs. Most everybody who has played both console and PC versions of FFXI agree that PC is far superior; better graphics, better control, not as buggy, ability to research the wiki and stuff while playing, etc.

Give it a try on xbox if you can find a cheap used copy, but I'm sure you'll end up preferring PC version for most of your game time.
