If Vana'diel was real, where would you live?Follow

First of all, apologies for starting a thread that reeks of pure, undistilled, pathetic fanboyism. However, some FFXI friends and I were having this conversation recently, and so I thought it would be an interesting question to pose to the larger Alla community. If Vana'diel was real, and if you had a bankroll that would enable you to purchase any parcel of land -- in any zone -- and put up a house, where would you live?

For my money, I'd split my Vana'diel residency between two places. I'd buy about three acres of the Lufaise Meadows and build a villa on the east side of the waterfall near the zoneline to the Tavnazian Safehold. There would be an ample deck hanging off of the cliff over the canyon, lots of good food and books to pass the time, and (most importantly) a particularly uninhibited harem of Mithra. This would be the place to spend Sunday through Thursday. The runner-up would be a big plot of land to the southeast of the Ephemere in La Theine Plateau, which would offer a lot of the same scenery without the constant white noise of the waterfall in the background.

So if the first place concentrates on peaceful scenery, the second place would concentrate on night life. I would relocate Joachim (the Abyssea Traverser's Stone NPC) to Lower Jeuno, and then augment him with an NPC that provides teleports to all of the Abyssea maws. There would also be teleports to Whitegate, as well as the three starter cities. This would (hopefully) have the effect of returning Lower Jeuno to its "axis of Vana'diel" position that it enjoyed before the release of ToAU. Then, I'd buy up one of the seldom-visited shops on the upper level of Lower Jeuno (I'm looking at you, Gems by Kshama) and turn it into a weekend apartment. With all of the crowds of people, the Merry Minstrel would be a great weekend hangout (albeit a bit crowded) and when the lamps are lit and the bards are kicking the last lampshade-wearing patrons out, it would be a short stumble back.

So where would you live? You can assume that all of the local flora and fauna will be in place, but you can also assume that you (along with your friends and family) are all level 99. I thought about building a nice big house with a deck hanging off the side of Ru'Aun Gardens, but the possibility of having one too many glasses of Tarutaru ale and falling off of the side makes this a risky proposition indeed.

i'd have my normal residence in San D'oria and i would have a fully stocked long term survival outpost at the top of Uleguerand Range that i could flee to when the inevitable zombie apocalypse arrives. it's so cold there that the zombies would freeze solid before they could assault my outpost. the outpost will also be safe from hoards of other fleeing survivors due to the multitude of nasty inhabitants that would add to the natural barrier that is the range.

ok so i'm paranoid. what do you want...

either that or i could hide in sea. think the zombies would have sea access?

I wasn't aware that there is a pending zombie apocalypse. But in the event that there is one, your argument makes perfect sense.

However, this line of thought just made me think of a third place -- somewhere I could work and study without being bothered. For that, I would set up shop in the sixth ministry of the Federation of Windurst -- those of you from Windurst know where this is. Sure, it's a pain to get to and even more of a pain to get into, but it's a neat little getaway in an otherwise hostile environment.

I'd make sure to live way out of known map... In case you hadn't noticed yet, those adventurers are CRAZY! I mean, seriously... they are slaying gods and dragons alike, travel through time and space to do god knows what, and at the end of the day they barge into your house to give your wive flint stones... I mean, yikes...

First and foremost would be Kuzotz. I am obsessed with hot weather. Anyplace it's ridiculously hot and not muggy is where I want to be. (Without dehydrating of course.)

Second would be right outside Kazham, as the above poster said. Mithra's galore, and i'd be one of the few males around. The joy.

Though the scenery is a bit lacking I'd go with the dungeon in the Chateu. It has the only toilet.

Yet you build a house with a deck hanging over a cliff!

This is actually a pretty tough call for me. Either a home by the Cascade Edellaine in Misareaux Coast, or one near the beach and Blueblade Fell in Lufaise Meadows... I'd have to go with the waterfall backdrop though. That particular spot is a longtime favorite of mine. Bonus: easy access to Jeuno via the Qufim vortex, which is close by. I'd also want a town home in Whitegate. I've a soft spot for the city and ToAU as a whole, and I'd have my duties as an Immortal and mercenary to consider.

Throne room of course! Not because I'm one of the many emo DRKs that want to be just like shadow lord, but I would just love to see people try to make it to my front door and ultimately fail (think pesky neighbors or girl scouts). However, I would want to find out the architect who designed the light up transparent floor in the hall of the gods and have that installed all through the throne room...gotta brush up on my billy jean routine XD. Also buying my own maw would be nice...spending too much time in lion's tavern and waking up to a galka the next morning could be one of the many mistakes I could go back and erase...

...yeah I thought about this a bit too much

A nice Cabin near the lake in Jugner would be great. Easy access to fishing, trees surrounding everything. Really my favorite zone, and looks so much like the woods of the Ozarks once did(Lot of those areas are gone due to highways and ****).

I had thought about a second home somewhere a bit colder, but Cold=Snow in this game, so...no, hate snow(But I love the cold ;_;). Batallia would be to **** depressing to live in, but that's about as close as I can think of.

Mis.Coast wouldn't be bad as a replacement for Jugner either, but the Thunder is so freaking loud there. Also to many Morbols(Don't care if they won't aggro, who wants to wake up and look at that?)

Can't see any reason why you'd need to apologize for that. I kind of miss seeing threads like this. Maybe pointless in a way, but it's a nice break from how **** serious everyone takes the game now, and a reminder that there is more to enjoy about this game besides Exp and loot.

Definitely in the Empyreal Paradox, cause, well, it's the Empyreal Paradox. By far my favorite battlefield zone and probably one of my favorite zones all in all, and to be able to live there would be pretty spiffy. Especially if I could drop the floor out from beneath people Smiley: sly

Ru'Aun Gardens for me. Sure it's annoying to get to (construction workers would need sky warp), but with endless amounts of water running off and copious amounts of vultures, coupled with plants and trees, make it perfect. Plus, there's the aurora. I would have to take some windurstian tea though (and put Fire Elementals to good use), since I would go mad without tea up there.

Ifrit's Cauldron...

Naw, I'm just kidding..I like Windurst, but that place doesn't look like it can take a storm. Bastok just looks depressing. San D'oria is a little too medieval. If I didn't have any special powers or anything, I would say Windurst. If I did have the ability to warp and stuff, I would pick a place further away, secluded from most people. Lufaise Meadows would be an option, unless it became too popular..

Most RPG towns have more residents that houses they can live in. Where do they all go at night?

Zi'Tah has always been one of my favorite zones, I think I'd build a tree house from above and take stay there. Then I'd import a small group of Opo-opo from Elshimo, cut off their tails, and teach them to wield spears. Idk but for some reason that place + Ro'Maeve reminds me of Endor and the Imperial Base.

Other option I'd probably choose is up in Riverne, even tho it's a mess it still has a great scenery.

Mmh.. probabily in the Sanctuary of Zi'tah.
I love having green all around me and a peaceful environment. All those shiny crystals too..
Loved the place since I first visited it years ago and that's where I'd probabily live.
There's also the Hall of the Gods nearby, if you ever need and even more quiet place. The peaceful atmosphere, the light filtering from the roof and dancing all around you.

Yea I'd totally live there.

Funny you should ask...

A friend and I have a pad in Beaucedine Glacier [S]. We spend so much time there that it just seemed like the logical spot to lease a condo. There is a never ending flow of friends stopping by for one of our fabulous Campaign parties!

The only downside, besides obnoxious amounts of snow and cold weather, is the obnoxious amount of Dark Kindred passing through.

(and what do you mean "IF Vana'diel was real"???)

San D'oria. Why?

Windrust is a freaking swamp.
Bastok is depressing.
Mhaura and Selbina are border towns, didnt have even the most basic features for a long while - nomad moogles only got there what? 3 years ago?
Tavnazia is way out of the way of anything. There is no convenient transportation to get there.
Aht Urghan is not just inconvenient to get to, its crowded wit adventurers. That spend the whole day shouting on the streets.
Rabao is a freaking desert.
Norg is a CAVE!

The only other option i could consider is Jeuno.

because you can run outside and kill rabbits all day!!! :) Must admit, jeuno probably is the simple easy option.

I Like selbina, its hot, its sunny, great place to tan up! But then khazam, mithra as everyone else said. Wonder how many of the mithra's would actually kill people ;)

But then I would choose sandy, the thought of living in a fortress!!! :D Then run out and Hum the Ronf tune...
