Final Fantasy vs FarmVIlleFollow

While not technically about FFXI, this should still be pretty relevant to any fan of the series.

Anyone who is a regular to The Escapist, a popular gaming website, should know about their Best Developer poll, March Madness. Currently, the poll is in its fourth round, where Square Enix go up against Zynga, creators of Facebook applications such as Farmville and Mafia Wars.

Unfortunately, Zynga has been using sheer numbers to muscle out developers such as Infinity Ward and Rockstar North, and it seems like Square Enix will be their next victim. They're sending out their fans from Facebook directly so I thought I'd link to the poll on a few Final Fantasy forums. Please do spread the word around, as we really don't want Zynga gloating over this.

Vote here.

You can sign in with an already existing Facebook account or sign up on the website to vote. Square Enix need all the help they can get. :)

I think the point is, because Zynga is on all the social websites, they are getting word out about this poll, whereas SE is not doing so, thus skewing the numbers.

Maybe I missed the whole point though. :P

It seems like they are comparing the popularity of games and not the quality of development.

Zynga makes a large amount of mini-games that are on multiple social platforms and have no real simultaneous time requirement (meaning that you can log on, make a move, log off, log on again 5 minutes later.. all while <insert other activity here>). Most Zynga games can be played from the iPhone and as such, have a lot more exposure.

In terms of quality of developement, Zynga shouldn't have even beat Rockstar North. There really should have been different brackets for the type of development done or for specific platform sets, IMO.

But 16 year old female voters don't play GTA4.

Time sink versus time sink, who will fail and who will reign supreme?!

To find out reach level 30 and perform a small quest collecting a stack of a certain item hinted at by NPCs!

Not even worth the time voting there. FarmVille isn't worth anyone's time.

Farmville should be the textbook example of "casual game." When I was on vacation in the Bay Area for 10 days, I didn't dare log into FFXI, but I managed to actually stay pretty on top of things in Farmville even with a fairly limited connection.

Around level 30, Farmville becomes a massive grind fest worthy of competition with the FF games, however. In FFXI I can at least manage a level a day. I'm at level 37 in Farmville now, and the best I can hope for is a level every 3-4 days.

This thread seems suspiciously designed to get me to visit some crappy gaming site that nobody has ever heard of before to vote for something that doesn't matter to anyone with an I.Q. higher than fifty. I think I'll pass.

There's apparently prizes and stuff. I didn't look long enough to see what they were, but I saw the word prizes.

Crappy gaming site? Watch some of their stuff. Yahtzee (game reviewer, Zero Punctuation) is really fun and if you Google Yahtzee it actually has more hits in Google then the Yahtzee wiki or game, which says something about popularity.

Otherwise some of their series and shows are pretty good. I'm a fan of the movie reviews and Unskippable and There will be Brawl before it ended. anyway my 2 cents

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

You deal with being kicked out of sync instead of emergency maintenance on Farmville.
