Therefore 1% haste actually gets to be less likely to help you in melee, probably balancing out rather well.

it takes some abstract thinking to realize moving 1% faster won't always get you there 1% sooner. You can't deal 1% of a swing's worth of damage extra, you either swing again or you don't.
