We’ll be continuing updates as more information becomes available from official channels. I will however state that an emergency shutdown of the game in this manner has never taken place to my knowledge. Most previous emergency maintenances have been with least an hour+ warning ahead of time.
Update #1: Emergency maintenance extended to 3:00am EST (midnight PST). Going to bed.

Where are you getting the Emergency Maintenance updates? Obviously can't log into FFXI, much less POL. I'd like to know where this is posted so I can check on it. Thanks!

The crappy thing about this is that SE wont tell us why... even later. Security issue? Server faults? It will be a mystery.

i may be paranoid but it almost looks like it was a well thought out attack. gm services go down, then the registration servers (where all our info is stored) had emergency maintenance then they pull the plug on the game with 10 min notice.
almost seems like someone was trying to hack their systems and to stop it they cut the connection till they could fix.
