Gardening Ban Criteria?Follow

After reading of all the bannings of seemingly legit players for what appears to be merely gardening, I'm wondering if there is some similar criteria among those banned that SE used to determine who gets the axe and who doesn't.

My wife and I both garden wildgrass on 7 mules (used to be 15) and have done so for a long time. We have separate accounts but are on the same CC. We have not yet been banned. I'm going to post a list of questions and our answers. If those who garden in this fashion could post answers, maybe we can figure what criteria SE is using to ban folks.

Number of Mules? We have 7 each
Level of Mules? Ours are all at least level 5 (for the previous Bonanza)
Location? Our mules are scattered among the Cities.
Character race/Model? Again, ours are varied races and models.
Harvest sent or self sold? We send all our harvest results to a max fame main.
Mule names? Ours are fairly unique, none are even similar.
Banned? Not as yet.

If anyone thinks of additional questions that might help narrow this down, feel free to post them.

Thank you.

Maybe what has kept you safe is that you send all of the product to one character instead of having multiple characters cash in and send the gil to your main.

Number of Mules? 10

Level of Mules? 8 are level 1, 1 is lvl 7 (and is actually older than my main char) one is lvl 3.

Location? 8 in windy, 1 in sandy and 1 in Jeuno.

Character race/Model? 8 mithra (different models and hair), 1 taru, 1 galka.

Harvest sent or self sold? NPC harvest sold on each mule then gil sent to Jeuno mule. Things I don't NPC go to my Jeuno mule to sell. My Jeuno mule holds the majority of my gil and I send my main what I feel I need to carry on me. Otherwise I would spend it on stupid stuff >.>. This kinda worries me though, I have a lot of gil movement.

Mule names? All real names, not related to each other or my main.

Banned? Not as yet.

I'm guessing the ones that got caught up in the mass rmt gardening bannings were simply unlucky, chances are they looked at everyone with multiple gardening mules and the ones checking probably got lazy/slacked off and autobanned a few without checking up properly. Sounds about right to me anyway.

I spoke with a GM about this just now.

At first he asked me where I heard of these bans for gardening and NPC the goods. I told him Allakhazam.com

He seemed shocked by this and commented that gardening was part of the game and what you do with your harvest and what you grow is up to you.

He then asked me to wait while he checked on this. When he returned all he said was
"I wouldn't garden for a while"

Anyway I have 7 gardening mules. All different cities and no common names.
All are on 1 account with my main.

1 mule is lvl 75 1 is 41 the rest are 20.

So far I haven't been banned.

I just wonder if the bans have to do with multiple accounts and sending the items/gil to another account. So far it doesn't seem to matter what the crop is from what I have read.

Number of Mules? 15 used for gardening, 2 used for holding gear/items as well

Level of Mules? 2 are lvl 5, the other 13 are lvl 1

Location? 1 of my original 2 is in Sandy and 1 in Bastok, the other 13 are in Bastok

Character race/Model? Elvaan for Sandy, all Bastok are Taru or Galka

Harvest sent or self sold? I mix it up, sometimes I send plants and sometimes gil, most of the time lately it has been gil as I have been lazy about it

Mule names? My first two are Wadesjr and Wadessandy, the others are bwone through bwthirteen, b for bastok... w for wades... numbered 1 through 13 so i can keep them straight

Banned? YES

I do both so I doubt that's the reason.

I think this tell how difficult is to train scripts/filters that look for bad "keywords" i.e. a script say looking for specific texts that involve gardening and brogames tell.

I really hope this can be resolved soon. I am in favor of letting some RMT survive that the filter will not be overly sensitive and got someone else wrong. I am confident people got hit by mistake will get restored. I know people are angry, but this clearly is a honest/technical mistake. So I will urge people show patience about this before screaming "iQuit" or making extremely rude posts.

I have two accounts with gardening mules. My main has 10 mules specifically to garden, as well as 3 other general mules and my Main. My second account is 16 gardening mules. I predominantly grow Saplings into Ore.

I did not get the ban, and I expect this to be the case because I did not harvest a crop since mid-June. I have only just recently planted new seeds (Sunday afternoon).

I really think that, if everyone is on the level, SE started paying attention to harvests at the end of June or the beginning of July as grounds for RMT activity. It does not seem specific to a particular seed, or a minimum number of mules.

I have 16 characters that garden.
All are scattered all over the place. 5 have whitegate opened up but none are stationed there. One tends to be in jeuno to check and sell at AH.
I have all races except galka which drives me nuts by how slow they seem to run. Mules need to run fast not like they are mired in sand! I have been leveling my mules, when I get free time, to 17 blm so they can warp back to mog.
I sell on the garden character then send money to whoever I feel like sending to.
My mules have a big variety of names.
Their job levels range from 5 to 42.
Several of my mules are leveling a craft to compliment annewandering's (my main) woodworking.
I garden randomly. This last time I didnt even NPC everything at once or send gil to one character.
For an RMT I am pretty poor lol. And I very seldom send gil out of my account. Occassionally I might send 50k to one of my kids who play but only if they are starting out. I am such a big money trader. Oh darn I forgot to collect real money for that. I guess I am a really rotten real money trader.

In the other thread someone said there's apparently a gardening exploit, so I'd assume that would be the criteria.

The gardening exploit might be why there is mass bannings but it is not why I was banned. I did not even know there was an exploit and I certainly never used one.

Nobody can assume anything about another player that they don't know personally. I have never used an exploit, gardening or otherwise, so I was clearly collateral damage from this mass-banning.

I seriously doubt all these people would be here telling their stories if we were all using exploits. I think we would have known this was coming instead of being completely blindsided.

I cannot assume there is an exploit unless someone play whistle blower or SE actually came out to say what the exploit is.

The thing is.... the Salvage bans are only known to most people, and even to people who do Salvage often, until SE said what the exploit is. And there are like hundreds of people banned by it with not a single whistle blower.

I recall people that use the Salvage dupe to sell 35 items and some sellers make it require that person can only log in to the character and lot the item until the item is in the treasure pool.

So, to add insult to injury, I am also assumed by the community, along with many fellow advernturers, to be using an exploit? I'm sorry, but I don't think a little understanding and compassion is too much to ask for in this situation.

If only you knew how it felt to be wrongfully banned and then to be accused of something you despise... Please keep your accusations to yourselves if you don't know us personally or haven't been banned yourself. If you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all.
#17REDACTED, Posted: Jul 07 2009 at 6:40 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm sure it sucks, but to be honest I am personally inclined to believe SE. They aren't going to ban people for doing nothing when that is their revenue stream. It's like McDonald's banning fat people from eating there because they want people to eat more healthy foods, it just doesn't happen. As with most data mining I'm sure there is a very small percentage of mistakes, but for the most part I think that people that were banned were banned for a legit reason in the eyes of SE. Whether it is legitimate banning in the eyes of the community remains to be seen.

That is why this is clearly a technical and honest mistake. Does it sucks it happened? Yes. But there is no such thing as a perfect way to detect RMT, so people need to show patience about this. In fact, it should be considered a good thing that SE actually went quite aggressive against SE, because quite a few games out there do not, and if they do, they are not gaining much a hand over RMT.

I have no problem with people trying to do something and did not work. Then someone that does not even try to do anything at all.

At least in Vana'diel, there is pursue to remove RMT, and even the methods are not perfect, and relatively speaking SE is having a little more upper hand than other games.

Anyway, I would not get paranoid saying gardening will get you banned. Right now I am gardening seed for Frost Turnips because Beastmen controlled the region, so there are no regional vendors, and I need to the turnip to cook >_>

It seems to be people who were gardening out of a closed system, using wildgrass seeds to grow more seeds and crystals to feed them. The result was a self perpetuating system of junk that could be NPC'd with nothing more than a few minutes of effort a day.

Square doesn't mind gardening on a small scale, or from characters that were gardening using external sources for materials (haven't heard of any people banned who were going after gold nuggets or lightning ore yet, since those sorts of things required external ingredients.)

I expect a nerf of a few gardening recipes in the next update.

You forget that history is against you in this case, as is your anonymity.

We have been shown that, up until now, the STF has only banned viable offenders. Nearly every thread that pops up with "It's unfair what happened to me!" ends in "well, I use X program... BUT" or "I only sent a couple offensive tells" or any other mitigating statements that cast a shadow on the person.

So, it's not completely unfair for you to be painted with the same brush as those who knew and used a potential exploit if your circumstances are the same.

Naturally, of course, it's all heresay, since we DON'T KNOW what has actually happened. We just have testimonials from some of those persons affected.

Everyone is doing their best impression of a kneejerk, including you. I'd take a step back and not get so upset that the community wonders at your honesty. We've been trained to believe that all bans have been ultimately fair, with the exception of the Salvage bans.

I expect to see some changes in growing times for certain seeds, or new rules put in place in controlling new characters to garden. I would continue to garden when I wanted to. There is no reason to cause an alarm to not to garden.

This is like Swine Flu. People are paranoid about it, it is all over the news... but is eh.... nothing more worse than just a simple flu. The misbanning, even it sucks, is far from terrible than it is actually perceived, and will get addressed in time.

Think long and hard about the Salvage bans and how people tried to claim innocence. It's not so much an 'accusation from your fellow adventurers', it's more the fact there's USUALLY an underlying cause, innocent people will get caught, but not EVERYONE will be innocent as proven by the Salvage bans.

I would be totally fine with a nerf to gardening. It would actually save me $13/month that I wouldn't spend on gardening mules and I would just have to do a little farming here or there. But for Christ's sake, don't ban me for something that is working as it was designed, especially without ever stating they were against it to begin with.

If SE said, don't garden and NPC the results then I would stop gardening altogether. The problem I have is that I was banned without any warning and initially I had no idea whatsoever about the reason I was banned. Take away gardening but don't take away my account >.>

What I will do is to call SE, and show patience about it, and I believe you are showing good patience in how you are speaking (not like that other thread that some guy posted his conservation with the GM Smiley: glare)

You are good. Things will be ok :3
