For all the new players and/or returning players, Just wanted to throw out there Bahamut has a couple shells that just started up and might be a good fit.

First is Relapse, a solid social shell with mostly return players who came across each other on the forums, and decided to start anew under the same shell. Focus is on the social aspect and handling most the business through the leveling period (expansion jobs, limit breaks, Rank Missions, and of course leveling). Good place to delve right into and get acquianted with the new gameplay style. Also, since core members are returners, you have a strong knowledgeable bunch willing to help. Contact Soulstealz, Arruka, Winrar or Siltaent and well get you setup.

Second, would be a shell i personally started currently named Doinitrite (may change this) which is focused on bringing together a community of players who wish to delve more into a gaming experience based the framework the game had prior to the raise of the level cap and abyssea. I started the shell as a home for a 6 man party static I had setup with few other players in game. We came together as we were not big fans of the new Alliance FoV and GoV page burning EXP parties that the mass community had shifted toward. Focus of the guild at this moment is 6 man partying, mission progression, and experiencing the re-adventure as a shell. Members so far have all rerolled within the last month, so no fear being behind if your just starting. Contact me here or in game if you desire more info. Current sackholder's are myself, Bewbz, Azraelle and Patrician. Hit any of us if youd like a pearl.

And as always, feel free to hit me up if you have questions or require assistance! Cheers and welcome/welcome back to FFXI! :D

Edit: added names of a few more sackholders

Hey all,

I just had a couple of questions and I'm hoping you fine folks can save me a few weeks of dealing with SE customer service. I quit FFXI in 2007 and recently got the bug to start playing again. Winter's coming, I've got a little more free time this semester, and I really miss the social aspect of MMORPG's. Anyhow, I'd like to play FFXI again, but I really don't want to start from scratch after the four years I put into that character. I'd like to be able to find out if my character can be recovered prior to actually purchasing the game again. I used to play on PS2 and would be buying it for 360 now.

So, I fished around SE's FFXI site and made my way through the character restoration pages, but found that I can't get past the page describing the process as it tells me there is maintenance going on (despite there being no maintenance going on according to the Information: System Maintenance page). I assume I'll end up on the phone for quite a while with someone about it. My questions are basically:

Who should I call to get this process started?
Will they let me pursue the process before I purchase the game again?
What version am I buying? On most sites (Gamestop, Amazon, etc.) the image for FFXI for 360 is the one from WAY back with only RoZ, CoP, and ToAU expansions on it. This is being sold and advertised as the current version. However, there were collections in 2007 and 2008 which included the newer expansions. These ones are selling for $200+ and I really do not understand why. If I get the normally priced version, is there a way for me to play the new content? Are 360 players just getting screwed out of the new expansions?

Thank you so much for your time. I hope to be back in Vana'diel with you all soon!

Hi guys, im completely new to ff xi, i beta it originally on 360 before the game was released but i never picked up a copy, I've really missed the experience as of lately however and im kind of thinking of going out and getting all the expansions. I was wondering before I did though, does the xbox 360 share the same servers as the other systems? and if so, is bahamut still the server to start out on?

I'm possibly a returning player from quite a while ago. I've seen a lot has changed with the game since I left. I do have a question, and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I still have my copy of the game disc and have installed it on my new computer. I fear I have lost my old account and would like to make a new one. I have created a Square-Enix ID already and would like to create a new Play Online ID to start fresh in FFXI Online. To add a new Play Online account, it asks me to input my Play Online Registration Code... Assuming that is the FFXI registration code included with the game, will it work to make a second account? And if not, how would I go about getting a new Play Online registration Code without having to buy another copy of the game?

Oh my, I feel a tad lost and overwhelmed with all the changes. (to say the least) ;;

I played in a tiny tiny ls many moons ago on Garuda, absolutely adored the game, even if we were somewhat limited in what we could achieve with 4 ppl Oo.

I miss it, so much. I should not have left.

I tried wow, rift, aion, and ff14, nothing gives me the feeling like 11 did and still does. Even with all the changes I read on the first page, ff11 was and is to me, the best.

Im coming back, I simply have to.

Not sure what server is still open to new players, if most ppl are already at end game, but Im coming back anyway!

I need to relive the moments like when I got my ruby to be a smn, my very first af whm piece.. little things like the chocobo license, breeding colored chocobos!. The eerie feeling I had every time I visited xarcabard Oo...the game freezing in besieged! (played on ps2 back then)

I miss every step along the way, every goblin, every mission, every quest, the "tough battle" music that makes your stomach get woozy lol to the summer breeze festival fireworks. I intend on seeing it all again, not in any race, just enjoy the journey cause nothing out there in "gameland" can replace it.

:o) (good thing my copy has just arrived, will dl into pc this weekend!)

Don't really know if this is the correct place to advertise myself. I don't know if I'll get anyone to reply to me anyway but here goes nothing.

I am strongly considering moving servers after I start back up again. I figure I want to move to a place where I'll already have (decent) connections. With that said...

I have a well geared 90 Ninja (85 Kannagi included), and a decently geared 90 RDM. I only plan on taking NIN RDM BLU and DRK to 99.

I'm not looking for anything too extreme. I just want a linkshell that casually does things. That can mean scheduled events a few times a week to people just randomly helping each other all the time. Something laid back, not too populated. I also have a dual box BRD (Has a 70 WHM too, was working on that before I quit). WARNING: I want to gear my dual box BRD too.

I'm going to be working on my own projects, but it'll be so much better if I can find a small group that all likes to help each other. I'm also a bit in the dark about the new dynamis/voidwatch, so I'll probably need someone to point me in the right direction on that front too.

In any case, feel free to PM me..Hope to hear from somebody <3.

writing down all your info and keeping it in the instruction booklet is a absolute must, I had started playing this game years ago when it first came out for the ps2, now several years after I thought I was done and my character had been deleted I can happily say I will be returning, it is all still there.. I can not thank Square Enix enough for not giving up on their players, I can't wait to see my 128 days of play time increase! ^_^
Thanks for all the good info, I used to be on Fairy server which I believe is now Sylph, I have some much needed catching up to do!

I'd recommend one of the many linkshells on Bahamut. Pretty well populated server and quite a few casual, friendly linkshells for lower levels.

Hi everyone,
This is once again another I am coming back thread. Now, I keep getting this bug every few years. I'll start, I'll stop, here and there. never had enough RL friends who played and could never find a linkshell that actually was social in the time i played. I originally started back in June of 04 and its been a love hate every few years. Back to the point, My character is currently on the Shiva Server. My highest is a 68 Blue Mage. I would like to come back but i would like to have somewhere to come back to. I was thinking of maybe xfering back to the home server i started at which is Siren. But again that is dependent on if i can find people. I'm looking for a social linkshell. people who could help me level or instruct me on the best and new places to go. I have great memories of the story of the game and i love the world. But never having anyone to interact with has always been my downside. Thank you again for your time and willingness to assist.

Returned last night, already picked up the missing last 3 expansions (Abyssea) and dinged 77 after uncapping myself on my RDM in a Bostaneiux Oubliette FoV leech party. Had a lot of fun, got some people newly added to the friends list, and found an active guild.

Going to see whats available tonight in terms of solo content, and see if I can remember where I left off with my trials and what I was doing, and check out some of the Abyssea stuff. Really liking the more casual approach, although it was very shocking when I zoned into Whitegate, and it was /sea all 0 - I was thinking that was 10€ wasted on reactivating, then within seconds I got a tell asking me to party with a level 50 (I was on my 75RDM). After a confusing conversation and being caught up with the changes (I quit just before the cap increase from 75), I bungled across the world, joined up, and quickly picked up my old Haste/Refresh rotation, dinged up a handful of merits, uncapped, dinged up 2 more levels and had a blast.

Ill stick around for a few months again im sure :)

Hello all!

So l'm thinking of returning, gotten bored with the other mmo's out there, but l've been gone for almost 6 years now, and l know alot has changed. l went through this thread and it still didn't answer some of the questions l had, so here's hoping that some of you fine ppl can help me out :D. l was on Midgar last l played, sadly it is no more. So what is the econemy like now? like for example at the time Hogan (SAM katana/greatsword thingy) was going for about 1.8-2 mil on midgar. What are some popular classes ppl are looking for? Durring my time it was always a tank class, mostly pld, nin... l understand that now at level cap ppl are expecting a good amount of pld's and nin's to have BIS or pretty **** close lol, and l dont want to start with a pld, put all that work into getting level capped and hitting a wall cuz ppl dont want a fresh pld, which is understandable. l'm sure whm's are always in demand. But what other classes?

So much has changed from what l've been reading about it, and l dont understand most of it D: , like for example another post says at 10 or so, go to Gusgen? (something like that lol) and shout for a "book party"? what the **** is that? Back when l was still playing it was like, get to 10, head to Jeuno, get a party, head to qufim, then head to kazham or whatever your level range was. Now there are these Campaign's and fields of Valor and level sync... and just.... ya l'm sure you understand what l'm trying to say lol. But l guess what l'm getting at is, l'm looking for some insight as to which class would be best/easier to get parties for (which l understand at lower levels will be hard regardless of class due to the lack of lower levels playing). Is it possible to solo now in the game if l'm not a bst? Last time l tried that it didn't work out too well, easy prey was very misleading :(

Thank you all in advance!

Sorry of all the reading >.<

Hey, Im Also A Returning Player And My old Job Was 75thf and like 73 drg (Fenrir Server) but i plan on being a different class this time around one that i think might be a bit more different to what i was used too. maybe mnk or blm but if theres any LS recruiting new or returning players let me know i'd be more than glad to join on any server. =)

Now That There's So Much More Levels To Gain It Seems As If Im a Noob All Over Again XP i guess everything changed since i last played even the leveling rate, is it true its not so slow as it used to be? because it was pretty long getting to 75 back when i played, but now i cant imagine getting to 99 O_O that looks like a good challenge im willing to take on! i loved this game! plus i can't seem to get in to any other mmo like i did with this one.... idk why its like the emotional connection or something its weird XD hehehe...

On Pandemonium, I used to play pretty hardcore back in the day when that was the thing to do. HNM camping windows, DIEnamus, Sky/Sea, That other place I forget its name where you had to pay 50,000gil for soap to get in and ended up going for omega/ultima weapons. After seeing all the changes and the more fun it seems to be. . . I'm thinking about coming back in January if any large active LS's are open to inviting veterans of the old time I would be happy to hear from them!

Not looking to join an endgame LS at this point obviously, but a large LS for the fact that my hours of play are pretty whacked and before I join a server I just want to be able to jump in again :D!

Since it's been so long, 2007, since I subbed. I'll like to know what can I expect when I log in after the ~8 hour update?
Pretty much a rundown on what I'm asking:
- Will I still have all my items/gil and level for my character?
- Is there much of a difference in gameplay/control from playing on PS2 to now PC?
- Is there still plenty of old people from Garuda pre-2007 still on?

So yeah, just hit me with the truth so I don't get my hopes up when I finally log in after 5 years.

None of your gear/exp/money will have gone away if the character's been reactivated.

The controls are a bit different if you go keyboard- but you can get PC-friendly controllers (I'm a horrid keyboarder, sue me!).

The road to 99's set up considerably easier than the old road to 75 was. One can expect to get up to your limit break pretty darn quick compared to the old days thanks to the solo, repeatable "book" quests you can pick up in a ton of places. Basically, it'll go "Hey, kill these monsters" and give you an exp reward that increases each time you repeat it (up to a certain cap), which accelerates your leveling considerably. Around 30th or so, you're going in groups like this for at least another 25 levels or so...and once you hit Abyssea, leveling 30+ becomes obscenely quick by old standards.

As to who's on Garuda- if you remember their names, go check ffxiah and see if they're still active there. If they're buying and selling, odds are SOMEONE is on the account, hopefully the person you knew 5 years ago. :)
