Hi, story short, I was in whitegate and I cast Retrace and went to the past. We'll, the black screen with "downloading data" never went away, so I d/c and tried to log back in. Now, I can't log in as I keep getting "Network is busy or there is no respone from the server" message..If i keep trying, eventually I get to where I can log in my character but then I get stuck in the "downloading data" screen.

Iv'e reset my IP address, reconnected, restarted my computer..and everything else seems to be working fine with my connection..

So anyone have any ideas whats wrong?

Thanks :3

-been 2 hours and still can't get onto anything

Same problem for over an hour. I was able to get online briefly on an alternate account, but got timed out a short time later. I was able to login to my Jeuno mule twice, but can't even get there now. Both my main and alternate accounts are in Bastok Markets [S] though.

I wanna scream "Fuking SE" but it's probably an ISP/router issue somewhere between here and Japan.

Errors:

POL-0033
POL-1160
FFXI-3100

Same, it takes me like 20 trys just to connect to FFXI, and if I zone, theres a chance of me DCing and having to redo everything all over again. Real fustrating.

Update: I got onto mule no problem, left MH and walked about Lower Jeuno no problem. Got disconnected as soon as I try to zone into Upper Jeuno (I wanted to look at bazaars while waiting for GM to answer my call.

Was then lucky enough to be able to login to my main, figured I'd dc when I entered MH. I didn't, and everything seemed to be working better...but then I dc'd when I tried to zone.

Now I can't get back on to either.

Farthest I've gotten is the character selection screen, then it times out. Now I can't even get onto the PoL main screen after signing in.

Umm. I'm also having connection problems. I just managed to get to the "play" screen, but when I select it, it says the following:

"You have no Content ID for FINAL FANTASY XI. Please obtain a new Content ID or reactivate a cancelled one in order to play the game and/or to use the PlayOnline services."

O.O! Now I'm starting to worry a bit. I'm on the PS2 by the way. I'm wondering if this is just for PS2 users?

Spoke with [GM] Isokoski on my mule, he advised me that they have gotten multiple reports of this problem and that it does appear to be an ISP issue. He confirmed that my ISP (Cox) was in the earlier reports. They're looking into it, but as far as they can tell, servers are operating correctly.

As far as I've heard, GMs always say everything is working correctly

obviously something isn't working correctly if this is happening to multiple people across multiple servers .-.

I know how you feel, but the GM's only have so much control. They're there to help game mechanics. The FFXI servers are definatly working; if it is a server issue in any way it's the lobby servers that route information to the actual game server. My LS had the normal number of people on and no one else was having any issues.

Guess friday night is movie night.

Myself and my friend Dejavu are having no success logging in either. We both have Cox internet and are in AZ... And i guess cox just started blocking certain types of internet traffic this week [:someoneputafuriousemoticonhereforme:]

I hope a bunch of people drop their service asap. -.-

EDIT: [link=linky]http://government.zdnet.com/?p=4304[/link] anyone know anything about this?

We're thinking POL may be programmed similar to a P2P system and cox may be recognizing it as such. Anyone know if WoW players are having any connection problems anywhere?

There is definitely some sort of ISP problem. Oddly enough I'm encountering connection problems using the Resnet at the University of Hawaii. I can't imagine them routing their traffic through any ISP, as they should simply go through the ITS office and have a direct pipe into the net. Weird.

The article Deadbeat posted notes that Cox will put 'non-time-sensitive' traffic on hold when it's congested.

This is interesting coupled with the fact that the GMs reported Cox users in the earliest reports of this problem.

The problem is that it doesn't explain why non-cox users like you, Zenshin, also have the problem.

possibly routing through cox servers? idk how internet works. either that or maybe non-cox customers are just experiencing normal connection problems?

UH Manoa. This doesn't make any sense to me because Cox has no presence whatsoever in Hawaii. The only cable company here is Oceanic Time Warner, which shouldn't even be an issue in my case because UH serves as my ISP. I might give ITS a call and see if they did anything recently.

Actually around high-traffic times, when people are off of work especially, Cox seems to go down or become really slow.
Best thing to do is just wait it out and try at another time.

I use Cox too.
Should've stayed with Embarq >.<

ITS here says they blocked the ports that FFXI uses and that they won't be able to address the issue until Monday. Great.

Something tells me I'm not getting the whole story, obviously.

Good to see I'm not the only one having problems.

1. It takes forever to login, and I have to retry on almost everything
2. Random lag spikes, down to 30% and back up.
3. Have to search twice, first search always gives Search Failed.
4. Have to open AH list up twice, first open always gives a Failed message.

What the hell?

Maybe ITS decided to follow Cox's lead...or maybe some idiot over there just thought to block the ports for whatever reason. But, if the ports are indeed blocked, it doesn't make sense why I can still get into POL and even -sometimes- FFXI, because a blocked port -should- block any and all connections.

Just to illustrate my point, I finally got through and into the game. Currently sitting in Safehold, afraid to zone for possibly getting booted. Obviously when you check the AH or try to search zones the game is opening a new connection, and at times the connection fails and end up with that familiar "Search failed".

Methinks I just got a bullsh*t answer from ITS. Either way if this persists over the weekend I'm gonna have a hard time getting into Dyna and Nyzul.

What doesn't make sense is that at one point I was able to log and re-log my MULE. But my main character would timeout, everytime.

Is there a specific set of servers located in the southwestern US that is causing this problem? cause so far everyone having problems are from Cali, AZ, I'm from Las Vegas myself, and Hawaii isn't SW-US but maybe there's a place where the ISP there gets redirected through PoL servers located in the SW-US?

(I don't know much about Networking so please forgive my ignorance if I sounded like an idiot just now to those that truly understand it.)

And down it goes. Zoned a few times successfully before it finally got stuck. Very weird how some connections are allowed to go through and others seem to simply hang and timeout.

Edit: I am going to take my laptop out and connect it to the campus-wide wifi network, which (should be) separate from the Resnet. At least that way I'll know if something is up with the dorms or if there is a more general issue going on campus-wide. Unfortunately I do not have access to a commercial ISP here, so I cannot say if cable or DSL is working as it should out here.
