No, not military. Just an English teacher living in Cheongju. But I was motivated to come to the ROK by a warrant officer who flies helicopters and lived in the ROK. This weekend will be my first here, so I'm sure I'll run into lots of military when I go to the bars.

I like the name 'cadet' because I'm pretty new to the game and a lvl 28 RMD.

This is really irritating, I can't get any method to work for me.. I downloaded the Relakks thing and I get the 619 "couldn't make a connection, disconnected from port". I followed the Q+A about having to register the server in the Active Domain, but I have no idea how to do that.

So how did you get it working?

OK, I spent sometime reading up on the error code. Here we go:

1. Maybe if you have a firewall up, it could block you from connecting to the network.

2. To actually open an Active Domain, you'd need some special program from Microsoft. To me, this doesn't seem like a viable option.

3. I've had problems connecting to Relakks just because it doesn't connect. I waited, then tried again, and bingo.

4. Finally, if you are part of some type of office network or connecting through a router, you might have problems. Try this link for some solutions.
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/N101495.asp

If none of these work, then I don't know. You might have to contact Relakks support to see what's what.

Ok got some more info for those still wanting to use the Proxy / Tor method.

I found a program that works much better then SocksCap/FreeCap (both are no longer being updates, but their free).

All Inclusive "make it work" is ProxyCap, first month is free but have to purchase the software. Works with UDP and TCP protocols.

http://www.proxycap.com/

Ok also after ******** with rules alot, I found that if you can tell it to ONLY proxy requires to the IP range 61.195.59.0 - 61.195.59.254 that it won't be nearly as slow. That range is the login / registration server, only used for logins and to check updates. The actual game plays on a different range, which I was trying to tell it to direct connect to. But FreeCap is a PITA for doing direct connections. ProxyCap and Proxifier are both much better at separating traffic and only proxing what needs to be.

Anyhow, if your in the ROK and are still having issued send me a PM and I'll try to work with you on it.

Hello!

So I found a VPN program, I think, made specifically for gaming. It's called 'softether' and it connects you to a Japanese server. I found it hard to find help online about how to use it or what it does. Still, I believe it's free and it will connect people to playonline.

I can't exactly tell you HOW to make it work, unless you know Japanese. The commands though are in English.

What I did, maybe by sure luck, was click on the 2nd icon (looks like a sugar cube, says VPN) then clicked on "CMD TOP CONNECT" then "CMD CONNECT." Windows will pop up... just keep clicking yes. When a window pops up that has a scroll bar and pictures, go all the way to the bottom and click the last button you see. The VPN will be connected (if you go back to CMD TOP CONNECT you'll see that you can disconnect) and when you click on playonline, you'll be able to login.

Sorry if the description doesn't help. Again, don't know Japanese. Still learning Korean.

Here is the link:

BTW, the download is in the top right hand corner, with letters you have to type in to start the download.

Not so PC savvy here! But I did run tracerts and indeed the problem is on their end. It's like there's something right before I can connect to POL servers, probably a filtering device. Any advice or VPN walkthroughs? :)

yeah i've been in korea for a while now and i had the same problem so if anyone needs help just use www.monkeyvpn.com it's not too expensive and you get a US IP address and it works

Hello, I found this thread on google, and I was wondering is this issue still going? Are you still unable to log in from Korea? I ask because I will be moving to Korea myself sometime early next year, and I am still an active FFXI player, and also plan on playing FFXIV.

Just don't use KT internet service.

LG works fine.

If you must use KT, pay extra for a VPN in usa like www.strongvpn.com

Free VPNs disconect every 50 minutes or so, hence ffxi crashes.

Good luck

LG is an ISP? Is it readily available pretty much anywhere in Seoul?

LG offers broadband connections though I believe their buying KT lines to do it.

I'm on Samsung myself, they aren't blocked through they like to do maintenance around midnight on Sundays when I have events. I keep a subscription to Overplay VPN service just incase I have to VPN it due to connection issues. Overplay has access points in Japan, so if I do use them my connection is pretty much the same distance.
