i got a call from them recently and they think its squares fault, and i rattled off the port numbers to the guy and he said they wouldnt unblock port 443 from the list i gave them saying its a commonly used port to route viruses through and hack systems and they had that blocked for months.

also they said its probably going to take a month at least to try and fix the problem at the longest, a week at the fastest

Thanks for the info Spooktc.

Why on earth would it take a month, or even a week, to fix this? They were obviously able to block the ports in a matter of minutes because I went from playing the game, to logging out, to being unable to log back in less than an hour later. That seems rather odd...

I'm just bummed that I haven't been able to log in for two days, and it could possibly be another month before I could get back on. All my gardens on my mules are going to be dead... There goes millions of gil down the drain. -.-

Anyway, lucky you for getting someone there by 3:00! Let us know what the technician has to say after he leaves and if you're able to log back in. I'll just keep waiting for my guy to show at 5:00.

I've been trying to call and been getting nothing but busy tones.

Let me know what's up with your tech guys when they arrive!

I'm in Gangseo-gu. If you want to do a weekly check on your stuff (if the conenctions are down for long) you're welcome to come over to use my laptop and "borrowed" wireless connection.

Did the tech, or the customer service person, at least say that the problem would be fixed and they would be able to open the appropriate ports again? Or could this possibly be permanent?

they gave me a square-enix answer

-it'll be fixed in a week, latest a month!

Taru - the technician who called me said that square-enix was blocking KT's Telecoms IP Addresses, and somebody up a few posts said KT was blocking Square-enix.....

I think squares been blocking Korean IP Addresses.....

Thank you so much for letting the technician from my place call you Spook! It definitely helped with my limited Korean and his limited English.

Well, the technician just left after fiddling with my computer for about a half an hour. He called a bunch of different people from KT while doing so. He didn't really give me a definite answer on what will happen next. I guess, like you said, it's going to take some time to fix. >.<;

The next step will be to call SE again and let them know what KT had to say about SE blocking the addresses. But, we have to wait until Tuesday morning (1:00am-9:00am) to contact them again since they are closed on the weekend.

Well I guess that answers my concerns if there is a way to fix it myself...

Thanks for the posts on this issue everyone. If I figure out anything before KT, LG, or SE fix the problem I'll let everyone know.

My boyfriend tried some proxy servers or some such nonsense all day yesterday without luck. I'm not exactly sure what he was doing but it didn't work. I'll ask him later to post what he tried.

Blah, Labor Day...silly Americans and their inopportune holidays...

At least I'll be in America on Friday for a vacation, so I'll be able to play a bit while I'm there for two weeks. Hopefully this will all be fixed by the time I get back.

theyre saying Square enix is for sure blocking our IPs thinking koreans send too many attacks to their servers, so they advised us to tell square-enix to tell Japan servers to unblock our IPs

if you do a treacert in DOS you can see the path it takes to a japanese server over in mainland, I really believe they are blocking us due to korean hackers.

I figured out a "fix"!!!

1- Connected to a "borrowed" wireless
2- Logged on and selected a mule
3- Connected my LAN and my PC started to R0
4- Disabled my wireless
5- Got the "no response from server" message
6- Selected main character once my LAN took over network
7- I WIN!!!

Now to never log out of FFXI again...

lol well good try to out smart the system, well anyways hopefully something happens soon, so far nothings worked for me....but if anything does i'll be sure to let you guys know...for the most part i stay in Yongsan and the LG company is closed on the weekends including the holiday...so yea..
#46 Aug 30 2008 at 2:50 AM Rating: Good

How can SE be blocking Korean servers if we're able to connect to the game on borrowed wireless connections? I'm on it right now on some poor guy's wireless network. Sounds like an excuse to not accept blame for the problem to me.

Also, I just talked to a woman who plays from Seoul as well on Ramuh and she's on Xpeed without any issues.

Is it just KT customers that are having trouble? I didn't know LG had an ISP as well. Is it the same as KT or is it different?

I'm on LG as well. Maybe KT and LG are partners or something when it comes to ISP.
#49 Aug 30 2008 at 8:29 AM Rating: Good
yea i'm on LG and i can't login.....so i don't know whats going on but my plan is to call SE on tue. wed. whenever and from there figure out whats going on...which in the end will probably have me end up calling my ISP..

Hey all,

I speak fluent Korean and have KT Telecom as well. I talked to the company Friday + Saturday and they said that they are not blocking any IPs or closed any ports, which makes me strongly believe that it is indeed SE's problem. I yelled at the SE customer service which probably didn't help, but they kept telling me that its a port-blocking issue which shouldn't be the case. If they are indeed blocking the Korean IP addresses, I'll contact a person who knows a person and see if they can contact SE to lift the block. Until then, we all play a waiting game.

PS: Might help if we all bombard the web tech support on POL as well to let them see how many customers are not able to access the game. If I could at least connect to POL, at least I could cancel my accounts lol.
