In the upcoming version update, we will be introducing the Nyzul Isle Assault area.
The Nyzul Isle Assault area will challenge players with a dungeon that has a randomly generated layout--every floor will contain new opponents to battle, as well as new objectives to complete!

Development Concept

In the spirit of the Salvage area implemented in the December version update, we will be introducing more small-group content in the form of a randomly generated Assault area. In order to reach the highest level of this new Assault area, players will have to overcome various mechanisms and monsters, and contend with all manner of astonishing challenges.
The development team is hard at work creating new content that will provide fresh, ever-changing enjoyment.

Participation

Players can sign up for the new Assault area missions at the Commissions Agency in Aht Urhgan Whitegate. Participation is restricted to the usual 3 to 6 members; however, players cannot choose to impose a level restriction for Nyzul Isle Assault missions. There are no requirements for participating in Nyzul Isle Assault missions other than being a registered mercenary.

Assault Mission Progression

The Nyzul Isle Assault area will be randomly generated as a series of "floors" every time you begin a mission. The basic progression consists of working towards the highest level of the area by completing the objective of each floor within the time limit. Objectives include goals such as the defeat of all monsters on a floor, the elimination of specific creatures, as well as various other challenges. We estimate that approximately 5 floors will be completed during a single attempt.

Recording Progress

When using the Rune of Transfer to exit the Nyzul Isle Assault area, it is possible to record the data of the highest floor you have reached (in blocks of 5 floors). Once this data has been recorded, you will be able to start again from this point, even if you have been ejected from the area due to, for example, an expired time limit.
Starting from a recorded floor will require the use of "tokens" obtained within the Nyzul Isle Assault area. The further you progress, the more tokens you will need to begin the next block of floors. Players will require a substantial number of tokens in order to reach the highest floor of Nyzul Isle.
*All participants will obtain tokens from a mission; however, only the person who operates the Rune of Transfer on the starting floor will receive the recorded data.

Rewards

Due to the special nature of Nyzul Isle, players will not receive Assault Points for missions completed in this area. However, you will have the chance to obtain items from the creatures that appear on each floor. Monsters from every corner of Vana'diel, including many powerful and ordinarily elusive Notorious Monsters, stalk the floors of Nyzul Isle. Triumph over these opponents and you may earn some truly rare and wonderful treasures!

Wow... that is pretty damn nice. So we'll be seeing, hopefully, some highly desired mobs. Perhaps this is where some solutions to sky triggers will be... somewhat remedied?

Question is...

WHAT KIND OF ITEMS? :O

Sounds like there will be a chance of fighting king behemoth and getting his drops without camping him as well as many other HNMs.

sounds cool... all we can do is wait and see.

Relics will drop from testing grounds. this is a high chance.

I would have rather just have Assault points for the items the HNMs will drop... really don't like people and LS keeping points for people to loot.

My sister says she's praying for the OFF CHANCE it could have relic for the jobs lol. The token thing reminds me of something from a past FF but I just can't place it...

Still a 3 to 6 person restriction. King Behemoth would squash the hell outta 'em. ..... unless a group of 6 managed to take him down, which I've never seen nor heard of. Would be nice though if slightly dumbed down versions of them were included.

Edit: Silly me. I read the details page, but didn't see the pictures that they included on the main page, to which there is Behemoth and Fafnir shown. As for the squid thing, that is a Soulflayer, a very powerful mage found in the Arrapago Reef area and the Undersea ruins too I believe.

so it's gonna be like The Veldt?

The best part of Final Fantasy XI is its rich storyline. It separates this game from other MMORPGs. I chose to give my character a storyline that goes along with the game's storyline. I find that this is a more fun way to play the game. Playing the game just to fight in the endgame and collect elite equipment is very boring and is totally missing the main objective of the game, which is to guide your character through the storyline which is to save the world.

when they do add TOAU relic area, hope they have a point system and people buy relics from a NPC.

i have seen lots of bad things happen when points is left to a ls to decide.

i was going to hope SE would fix corrupt Endgame with there own point system like assault for TOAU things.

well this is only 6 people, so i do not see any point system needed.
but sheesh people fighting over loot is never fun.

PS: i think update will be next week.

While that would be great, it would be a tad bit hard with the current mentalty I've seen in my short time in FFXI:

"Only the best, 1337 people and jobs only! Lol I want the most AP Points possible so burn only!" The system would be great, but would eliminate a lot of players if they happen to choose the wrong job to fall in love with.

The Veldt was awesome. Actually managed to run into one or two of the 8 Dragons while running about there.

As for Bubbly Bernie.... all this mentioning of him and whatnot.... careful. SE may take notice of it and make a quest called Weakened at Bernie's, where Bernie's had enough of being bullied and comes out swinging as a level 95 and starts dropping bodied left and right. *nudge nudge SE nudge nudge* Beat him and get "Bernie's Sunglasses".

Relic areas = 18-36+ people not assault but it would use somekind of point system based on how many monsters killed and how far you got in it.

i have the whole idea down how relic item endgame would run with points and how people would earn points.

its a long post but i can put it here if you want to know how it can be done.

I know I'm looking waay too far into this, but isn't Dynamis basically mobs from all over that are stronger versions of their normal forms? That could be a hint that we could get something for BLU/COR/PUP, since they aren't part of the Hydra corps, it wouldn't make sense their relic would drop in Dynamis areas..I dunno, you could post the system you were talking about though bluemage.

In the .dats Testing grounds is a big double dark area.

double Dark big Area learns to dynamis and Limbus, dynamis = Vanadiel, limbus = CoP style dynamis. Hazhalm Testing Grounds can be TOAU style dynamis with a original story.

This is what i want testing grounds to be.
*It has nothing to do with dynamis story.

*past a point in TOAU maybe where you get tons a gold but naja takes it. a NPC guard somewhere will tell you Higher ups will like your help.

*You get to the area and a NPC is guarding it and to get in you need a key item from CS with higher ups that tell you that they need help with there Out of control testing grounds. A regular item from someone that needs Imperial coins to buy. item is is called Testing Ground Permits and duplicates to Testing Ground ticket(its like Timeless Glass for dynamis).

*32 people allowed but not needed to gain rewards.

*NPC will guide and Watch you to monitor your progress. He wont fight or able to take Damage.
If you drop Testing Ground Ticket he will make a funny comment and kick you out.

*Some kind of points similar to assault but not called that you gain for each Monster killed and how far you get. Bonus points for following NPC orders(EX:NPC will point at a monster and say "fight this one" it may or may not make it harder but when he gives orders you can use /assist NPC name.)

*Once you get to the final area you will Face a very hard boss that will drop ??? items that can be Relics to cursed scrolls to other good endgame random items. normal monsters will have a rare drop of Reraise potions, HP/mp healing items and other useful but not to strong Temp Items.

*With points Gained based on progress and monsters killed you will be able to buy a assortment of Relic like items and new job Relics(Of course they will take tons of points) . maybe Exp/limit scrolls, useful items for people with relics to keep doing it for newer people and Testing Ground Permits for more options other then money.

Story can be about what they have done with testing grounds and how its effected everyone in the world(EX:mandragora birth place i think).
And a inside joke about the coins they take from you to get inside.
will they be used to help Rebuild the place to fight the monster they made?
will you ever be able to clear the area cause of the mysterious endless supply of monsters?!?!

omg...

A ToAU Dungeon crawl?!!!!!!!! HOLY %$@%&

This kinda reminds me of the Via Infinito from FFX-2....

I see the Behemoth/Fafnir pics; here's to hoping this might fix HNM camps/give players who dont have 0932840238432 hours a day to play a chance at rare items. The "save" feature alone makes it good for "casual" players.

I can't wait till I'm higher level to do this ^^, the "save" feature is something I really would enjoy, since I like trying different things, and not trying to win on my first attempt, no fun if you never experiment first ^^.

you know what'd be nice....? if those behemoth and nidhogg relica mobs dropped BB items ;;;>_>

maybe one of the ultimate rewards for finishing the dungeon is:

Imperial Platinum Piece, which = 10 gold, and is worth a lot :o

i see a problem now... random invite people or from LS might fight over who will be leader and who gets recorded.

If its LS what if this guy wont be on at the right time or gets impatient and invites random people leaving LS behind with are earned spot.

there might be some drama with this.
