~A note.
Very recently, a poster, a friend, and a valued member of our community passed away in a car accident. This tragic loss affects us all in different ways. It lets us realize that those who we play with are a lot more than just an avatar and some gear. She was known to us on these forums as Kyrin, on Cerberus as Grianne, and on Pandemonium and Tyrigosa. Rest in peace, Kyrin, you will be missed. Memorial can be found here: Kyrin's wiki page

I. Introduction
Well, welcome to Allakhazam.com! I’m assuming your reading this for one of the following reasons: You’re new; you don’t get a term or emoticon;
you don’t understand how things work; or you just have the odd urge to read a big long boring guide.
Words in red text appear in the glossary. These will be gone over in short in the glossary as they were probably mentioned in the “What’s That?†section.
Want to sign up so you can get to posting and having fun like the rest of us?Go Here!
Want to have a cool picture next to your name and be able to search the forums with ease? Maybe you like that super-spiffy FFXI signature you see some of the posters sporting! Sign up for an Allakhazam premium membership!Go Here!
a: Main FFXI Forum
The Main FFXI Forum is where people go to talk about FFXI in general. They talk about the FFXI related stuff that doesn’t fit anywhere else here.
Economy stuff, events, notorious monsters, that kind of stuff. So post what you think doesn’t fit into one of the more specific categories, just try your best to put it in the right place.
Some people get mad but for the most part all these people are pretty nice. This is a good place to look for most basic info.
Maybe you're looking for a place to discuss your endgame ideas, strategies, thoughts, and babble. Go to the FFXI Endgame Discussion Forum
b: FFXI Feedback & Suggestions
This forum is for feedback and suggestions about FFXI. It is rumored that SE reads threads in this forum and sometimes takes ideas from it and puts into the game.
No one knows for sure… Just be warned, don’t go there and whine. If you go there and suggest something expect constructive criticism and if you only whine expect to be treated without respect. But, I expect that you will do it right.
c: Trade Skill Discussion
This is where you can go to talk about crafting and synthing. Ask your toughest trade skill questions here and you’re guaranteed an answer. There are also some great leveling guides. Try out MistressKat’s links to useful guides and posts to find just what you're looking for.
d: World Pass Forum
Unfortunately, the World Pass feature of FFXI has passed away, it's a long forgotten tradition. Actually, it's something to celebrate because it removed a lot of hassle from finding the right server for you!
e: Quest and Mission Discussion
This is the forum for talking about events, too hard to handle missions and quests.
You can find some great help in those parts and again, like most of the other forums, people will not mind if you post something there that would fit better somewhere else.
f: Job Discussion
Here is where you can talk about specific jobs. If you have a question about a job here is where you can ask the people who actually play it so you can get the best answer.
Just Follow the links below to the job of your choice and ask away, I’m sure the posters there would be glad to help.
g: Race Discussion
These forums are where you can go to talk about a particular FFXI race, FFXI races differences or commonalities, or just how dang cute they are.
(Hint Taru hint XD). Yeah, these are a pretty fun place to post and this is the place for all those race questions and discussions. Not that ya can’t
have a good race discussion in the main FFXI forum though Here are the links:
h: Server Forums
These forums are so you can get together and chat with people from your own server. You can find LS mates, get in game help on missions or quests,
find a new LS, make new in game friends… or enemies You get the drift, its where the people from your server go to hang out. Links below.
i: Ballista Discussion
Well, it seems that the Admins removed the Ballista Royale and the Ballista forums. So, if anyone knows where one might be found, tell me and I'll link it here. Otherwise, I guess it's non-existent now.
j: Allakhazam Forum System Feedback
This is exactly how it sounds. This is where the administrators of the site want your input and feedback to help make the site better and more user friendly.
You can also report abuse, harassment, and inappropriate behavior here. The only place inappropriate behavior is tolerated is the Asylum and we will get to that later.
k: Technical Support Fourm
This again is exactly how it sounds. Go here if you are having computer, or really any techie problems and need help. Some really smart people dwell those areas.
They are usually quick to respond and come up with very good answers to fix your problem. Most of the problems in here are game related.
l: Other Games
Now not that you’d ever need to talk about a game other than FFXI but… Ya never know.
So here are the links to the other gaming sites hosted here at Allakhazam.com, part of the Zam Network. Once you’re off on those other games sites you’re on you're own though.
m: Out of Topic Forums
There are two main out of topic forums here at Allakhazam. The older of the two is called the Asylum. The regulars there are a pretty tight knit group, and the forum is very racy. Only tread there if you are ready to take a beating and discuss some heavy political issues. On the other hand is the Out of Topic forum, with a little bit lighter hearted discussion going on. Don't be afraid of the regulars in either forum. They bite, but not too hard.
m: End Game Forum
Very long awaited, it's Allakhazam's very own endgame discussion forum!

QFT: generally, "quoted for truth"; basically a "me too!" post. These are annoying if you have nothing else to say. Some people also say QFT means "quit @#%^ing talking", but this meaning isn't widely-used or accepted.
FTFY: "fixed that for you": this is usually a sarcastic remark used when altering someone's quote to either reflect a more accurate statement, or to create a quasi-humorous statement.
"sky": this refers to a region accessed late in the Rise of the Zilart mission series. The region is known as Tu'Lia; it is home to many end-game activities.
"sea":
NotASock wrote:
Actually, the region is Lumoria, not Al'Taieu.
Lumoria zones and Tu'Lia zones somewhat match:
1 Outside "gate" zone: Ru'Aun Gardens in Sky, Al'Taieu in Sea.
2 "Dungeon" zones: Ve'Lugannon Palace and The Shrine of Ru'Avitau in Sky, The Grand Palace of Hu'Xzoi and The Garden of Ru'Humet in Sea.
BCNM zones: The Celestial Nexus and La'Loff Amphiteater in Sky, The Empyreal Paradox in Sea.
Then, there are Limbus zones.
You access them through Al'Taieu, but they're in their own Region.

PM: acronym with multiple meanings. 1) A private message sent from one user to another using Allakhazam's forum system. 2) A private message sent from one player to another in FFXI using the "/tell" mode of communication. 3) An alternative method for referring to the CoP missions, meaning Promathia Mission: e.g., CoP mission 5-3 could also be represented as PM 5-3.
(Thanks to Nyruu, Pbplayer, and SuicidalWombat for the add-ins and clarification. )
TW: Too Weak
EP: Easy Prey
DC: Decent Challenge
EM: Even Match
T: Tough
VT: Very Tough
IT: Incredibly Tough
ItG?: Impossible to Gauge
MPK: Monster-Player Kill, or Mass Player Killing. Basically, it means to use a monster to get another player killed, on purpose, and of course, with cruel intentions. (This has basically been removed from the game due to various patches by SE over the years.)
Thanks to Digiman for asking me to put these in
MMM: Moblin Maze Mongers custom dungeon system recently implemented by SE.
More to be added as I see and remember more.
b: The many faces and acronyms of the net and what they mean

This has been an edumacational web history footnote brought to you by the thrice dammed elf.
smdb: is not appropriate so I won’t tell you

One thing I want to emphasize is the Karma system. If people start to use it, it should solve many of the complaints I see about anon posting. If you have received Scholar status of higher, you in effect become a limited forum admin. Please take advantage of this.
As you read through a thread, rate the best posts up and the worst posts down. Then when you get to the end, hit the rate posts button to enter your ratings. It only takes a couple people rating through a thread like that to move the dumb posts below the default viewing threshold and move the better posts up, which will eventually make those making the good posts able to rate as well.
Now just make sure you have your filter settings at "default" and not at "Never Filter". The default filter means that when you are on the main thread page, any thread where the lead is below 1.5 isn't even listed, and within a thread any post below that rating also disappears. If you choose to set your filter to "Never Filter", then I have to assume you want to see those types of posts.
We do moderate the forum as well, but only to get rid of the most outrageous posts. If people want to carry on a below the threshold flame war, then we won't interfere until it becomes indecent.

V. Glossary
Notorious monsters: Notorious monsters appear usually at a random time, but in a certain time frame. These monsters are usually considerably stronger than other monsters of its type and drop something useful.
Crafting and Synthing: Crafting and synthing are the same thing, you craft or synthesize materials together to create something new.
World pass: a password you can use to make sure another character is on your server.
Server: also known as world, they are the servers your game is being hosted from. Therefore, if you are on the lets say Unicorn server, and your friend is on the Cerberus server, you won’t be able to interact.
Ballista Royale: This is an interserver ballista match between the best teams from the servers.
Ballista: this is a big bad PVP game where players from different countries team up and try to eliminate the opponent.
Skill Chain: This is two timed weapon skills reacting with each other to create a big bad damaging… thing.
Weapon Skill: This is a powerful move used when meleeing a mob, after your TP has reached 100% or more.
Magic Burst: This is a timed spell to go off after a Skill Chain that creates massive damage.
Ancient Magic: These are really big bad spells that take a really long time to cast. (they are also very expensive….)
Windurst: One of the four nations. (Or is it five now because of Al Zahbi?)
San D’Oria: One of the four/five nations.
Burning Circle: This is a special symbol and they are found all over Vana’diel. They are usually used to get to a special boss-type fight.
Outpost: You can find these scattered all over Vana’diel, even in the harshest of climates! They are usually owned by one country or beastmen. People from that country can set there Home Point, buy and sell items, teleport home, and even get signet here.
Outpost Warp: After doing a special quest, where you bring supplies to an outpost, you can teleport there from your home nation. this is one the most efficient ways to get around.
Too Weak: Well, in FFXI there is a classification system of the monsters that you can base how you'd fare against them in a fight off of. When you use the check command on a monster and it shows up as "Too Weak" then you can safely assume it's not going to aggro you and that you'd be able to beat it easily.
Easy Prey: Easy Prey is one step harder than too weak. An EP mob will aggro you and you will have a slightly harder time beating it. It will also give you XP
Decent Challenge: DC mobs are just what they seem, decent challenges, though at highed levels I don't reccomend soloing anything higher than an EP.
Even Match: Even match mobs are a step higher than DC and they will start to give you decent XP.
Tough: Tough mobs can probably take you out rather easily and I reccomend avoiding them when not with a party, your solo chances of survival are slim.
Very Tough: Just one step tougher than a T mob.
Incredibly Tough: Probably the toughest mob you'll have to face, yep, a lot of times even worse than those Impossible to Gauge buggers.
Impossible to Gauge: Any Notorious Monster, whether you could beat it or not, is gauged as ItG.
Pankration: A form of catching and using monsters to duke it out in a special arena, recently introduced to the game.
Vi. Conclusion
Well, basically, now that you know where to post and what people are talking about, don’t be afraid to post. And definitely
do not be afraid to ask questions and learn about the game and even the forum if you want. I’m going to be updating this frequently, but for now have a good night.
LOOK HERE! Post questions in this thread, then myself or others will answer them and I will put them in the guide in an appropriate spot.
PS: Happy gaming and posting!
