Has this happened to anybody else? (Empress Band)Follow

#1 Oct 21 2005 at 10:02 AM Rating: Good
As I was leveling my thief the other day, the BLM in my party began to insist that he be allowed to warp to Jeuno to recharge his band and reset the timer.I tried to explain to him that it was sorta rude (he had just gone afk to take a shower too, I might add, which I do assume was necessary, but he really could have taken the time to do that before he put his flag up. We're not talking like, an all day party here, just low levels in qufim!)

All he could say was "u can still kill without me", which was true. We could kill lower level mobs, resulting in less exp for all concerned (we were shredding ITs as fast as I could pull them, I might add, chain 4-5 in ITs in qufim with a pickup pt? Yes, please!)

I tried to explain to him that for him to ask the entire party to take an exp cut so he could get more exp was rude, and he kept making me sound like an ***.... Do you all agree with me? Has this happened to anybody else?

It's personally never happened to me regarding an Empress Band, but in Kazham I've had people go afk to go back to Jeuno to get Signet reactivated. It's downright disrespectful to the other people you're playing with. You have every right to be angry, when he said "you can still kill without me" I would have said "wow, thanks, I'm so happy you see things our way" and immediately replaced him.

While that does seem rather rude, the party was only in Qufim. With a trip to/from Jeuno taking maybe 5-10 minutes max (as long as he didnt get aggro), I can see his plees being answered.

The trip itself wouldn't take all that long to get his band charged, but he should have done that well before making the trip out to exp.

When you sign up, join a PT and then head out to your camp, you are expected to have all the items that you need on you, ready to go.

Granted, I'd be a bit angry that he wanted to warp, but like you said, its only level 20 in Qufim. Its like a 5-10 minute walk, provided his HP was set there. If he was really being that rude about it, then you should have just kicked him from the PT and gotten another BLM or another Mage and pressed on. All you are doing at that level is stabbing crabs with sharp sporks anyways.

However, if this was a post 50 PT, I'd boot him if he wanted to go to jeuno from say Onzozo. You should be prepared for any situation in this game, its part of being a skilled player.

I agree, it was very rude for him to ask that of you guys.

If you intend to party, be ready to party without interuptions, such as showers, errands, etc. Also have the gear you need and I guess, in this case, the charges on the items too.

Well I suppose it all depends on the circumstances,
Being a BLM myself I always get tells (almost nonstop) if I do not have /anon turned on. leveling has lost intrest for me for awhile now, but sometimes I say what the heck and accept. Then not wanting to keep party waiting I will hurry to get to them, and on several occasions forget something, but I never ask for time to go back and get it, although if I was partying in Qufim I might of, it really is not the much of a walk.

It has been my oppinion that if a party member is insistant on doing something then the party has 2 choices:
1: let him/her do it
or
2: boot him/her and replace

As far as you question on if it was rude, I do believe he was rude in this case because if you had been there long enough for him to go afk for shower and for you guys to be chaining 4-5 on IT at that lvl he should have relized the band really was not that important.

Yup. [/Goodbye] Moron, thanks for wasting my time, and the other four people's time as well.

Its rare to find a really good pickup party- and it really bites when that pt comes to a screeching halt because someone is irresponsible about their signet, ammunition, equipments, tools, food, etc.

I would have immediately looked for replacement. Encouraging these kind a attitude this early is a bad thing.

I don't think it was rude of him to ask (it never hurts to ask), but it was a bit cheeky of him to expect you to let him stay in your party. I probably would have said, "Sure you can go back and if we haven't found a replacement by the time you're finished, you're more than welcome to rejoin." Then disband him and promptly start looking for a replacement.

Two things here:

1. It's completely selfish to ask 5 people to make less exp per hour just so that you can make more.

AND

2. He's actually losing out on exp during his travel time which makes it even less worthwhile for him. Everyone is pre-occupied with the big shiny numbers the bands make while forgetting it's ALWAYS only 1000exp extra no matter how you slice it. He could have gotten close to that much by staying with the pt and just recharged and join another pt later... giving him more exp in the long run.

I think Lunalizard had it right-on when they said to let him go and if he's not replaced by the time he gets back, he can re-join. I think that's fair for everyone, but this is only considering the proximity of the party to jeuno. Not sure if I would be ok with it had it been anywhere else.

And I've misplaced the name of whoever posted the comment about the empress band only being an extra 1000xp no matter how you slice it, yes i do understand it's only 1000 xp, but at level 20 i think that can still make a considerable difference in how fast you gain your levels.

1000 exp is 5 fights. less since they are chaining.

That is less time than it takes to get the band, go recharge it, and run to the tower to rejoin the party.

Plus that way, your party don't take a hit in exp at the same time.

So the BLM runs off (missing all the exp between now and then), the party now kills with 5 people on lower exp mobs to make do. Lets say party finishes 4 fights with BLM away.

That means the aprty gotten 400 exp (assuming 100 exp per mob) which would be half what the band would have covered anyways.

i think the blm was trying to use yhe ring glitch instead of just recharging it. Glitch might not be the right word for it but as stated in a previous post somewhere on alla and from what i have seen myself if your ring is 0/7 charges and you fill it up to 7 again the timer resets to 0. I am not sure if the timer resets if you fill it from 5/7 to 7/7 but I do know it will reset if you refill it from empty. It sounds to me like the blm used it got his 1k exp extra and wanted to use it again. Either way he is a jerk. Some ppl are only concerned about themselves.

Another problem I was wondering if any of you have seen is when the person who has the highest lvl and is next to lvl uses the ring. This puts him over the range and starts to kill exp for the lower players. Seems kind of selfish to do that imo. Atleast wait till after you lvl so everyone can gain the 2-3k exp w/o you being a lvl higher.

Yeah, that's not cool. Wait for party downtime to do that sort of thing, I say.

If you were really spitefull and the guy really pissed you off, you could say, "sure, go get your band", then have him come back to the party and after he activates the effect, kick him.

Not that I'd ever do that
but there are some days I play this game and meet really inconsiderate people who really do deserve this. :)

I think that's horribly selfish. In retrospect, I'm surprised I haven't heard of it happening before, but I guess the rings are so new we're just now reaching the point where people need to recharge them. I know it's a short trek from Qufim to Jeuno, but still, if people are doing it there, it won't be long before they start trying to do it in more inaccessible places.

Like everyone else, I'd probably tell him he can disband, and if a replacement isn't found by the time he returns, he can rejoin.

Actually, made him wait for some downtime... the white mage died (and this little BLM/WHM suspiciously forgot he could heal >.> he had been helping some before I think.) Then he got all happy and goes "now can i go get my bad!?!?!"

Funny, by the time he made it back to delkfutts, there was no party waiting for him >.>;

I don't know about the "glitch" but I do know you can get 6 hours out of it (assuming the pt lasts that long). If at the end of a pt session your band finally resets, and you're gonna log for at least 13 hours anyway, fire it off and when you log back on you'll have your 3 hours, give or take logoff time, plus the band will be nearly reset, giving you close to 6 hours. Works best with a static or jobs that get pts the moment they log on. Not many of those left on Pandy though, even my LS' 75 rdm has to wait for parties sometimes.

Actually it's twice that. The ring grants you 1000 additional experience points, meaning you must earn 2000 experience points the normal way to get the full benefit of the ring.

Well, asking is one thing, insisting is another. If he was INSISTING, then yeah, that's not cool at all; but it never hurts to ask, even if you know you're a bit out of line.

well after reading the post,i think he could have recharged his band before he started with your party, that was not very nice of him to do that.

What?!?!

You can recharge the band to RESET THE TIMER?!?!?!

Is that a glitch? Or perhaps just phrased wrong?

I believe what was meant was that the band grants an extra 1000exp, but If the blm were to stay he could have gained 1000exp in that time. There was really no gain to getting the band at that particular time.
