He's not actually leaving. If he were, he wouldn't care enough to post about it. The fact that he has indicates he cares about the game enough that it really gets to him that he can't play.

What he wants, like most children, is to throw a tantrum where people see it.

Unfortunately for SE, a series of server problems like they have had will make hte difference for some people. There are a lot of good games out there and competition is intense... and you know, the grass is always greener.

Its annoying as hell, but ive never played other mmorgp's... maybe they are worse...

Nonetheless, with the problems SE has been having, I would not be suprised to see a lot of people testing the other waters. They need to get things straightened out before the barrage of new mmorgps come out next year.

EDIT: Why do people get so angry when someone says they are quitting? Im sure some psychology person would be interested into breaking that one down.

Yes, they may go 'test the waters' while the servers are down and they can't log in, but in one or two days when they decide to try logging back in, they will get in and they will stay with ffxi. Other mmorpgs just don't compare.

Plus, who can resist another Hallowe'en event!

These are the same people who say "if you dont like it just quit!" to anyone who dares question the almighty SE.

These are also the same people who say "if the USA isnt the best country in the world then why dont you go live somewhere else" to anyone who dares question the almighty oligarchy.

They are afraid of being wrong themselves. They need to bash you in order to feel secure.

So... it only follows that these two will react similarly when someone actually leaves. They don't even want to hear about it, you dont want to leave or you wouldnt be telling them, etc. It's really the same thing the guy leaving is doing: looking for backup. He wants people to leave with him, and the people jumping all over him want people to validate their view by bashing him as well.

edit: i am no shrink and of course this is a huge stereotype

Other MMOs are also bad. I've seen once in playing FFXI since release that a zone or world crashes unexpectedly (not for some people, but for everyone in that zone/world). I've never seen data have to be rolled back.

In WoW I've experienced multiple times entire regions suddenly become inaccessible, sometimes with minor data loss. Sometimes these crashes last an hour or two.

Same has happened with games like Guild Wars and Ragnarok Online, though I've never seen data rollback on Guild Wars. Its uptime is actually pretty good.

If you're going to quit, quit and shut up about it. If you're not, just shut up about it.

I used to play Ultima Online...

Maintenance every day. But wait !!!!

Every day from 4am to 7am (occasionaly 10am), including weekend (Server time). Each server had a region name and was set on a differnt timezone. Most players played on a server on or close to theirs.

Case and point :
No headaches. Heck even a 10h mainenance extended to 13h would still mean that you could play at 5pm (well start downloading patch at 5pm heh).

I was personnaly playing on a CST server back then because it suited my needs...

Yes some games are worse... others are better.
imho.

G'night !

not only did he care enough about ffxi to make a thread saying he will quit. He cared enough about the ffxi forum to make a sock pupet to preserve his karma
