Emergency Server Maintenance. Of course. I could have told you this was going to happen last week. You see, SE knows I have tonight off from the Missus to play, and...

You know I was actually plesantly surprised that I could login before the set time of maintenance ending. I ussually add +2hours atleast for "technical difficulties".

And with a serverbackbone change there was bound to be a trail and error run.

Only thing that bothers me a bit is that SE doesn't say when they need more time. Players have to keep guessing. I wouldn't mind if the maintenance would take 20hours (to make sure everything is really working properly) if they would just say so in advance.

Damn what is with all these server "upgrades"? Just stop with all the so-called "maintenances" already. Cause taking the servers offline for whole days at a time every week isn't doing sh*t for lag or achieving what they claim as the "best service possible."

The places that used to lag bad a year ago *still* lag just as badly, if not worse. So wtf is all this downtime for? Just to make it look like they're doing some work? Well, what they're really doing is pissing off a whole lot of Americans is what they're doing, scheduling freakin' 10 hour maintenances that don't do sh*t right in the middle of NA peak time.

And damn, should we be thankful that there wasn't a convenient maintenance *extension* this time? Cause you know they always pull that sh*t last minute. "Maintenance Extension: On Oct. 13, 2005, we will be performing the following: Server hardware upgrades 8:00-15:00. Maintenance extension 2 hours." Then two hours later you try to log on and guess what, they either post another extension or you can't get on for two hours anyway cause everyone's trying to log on too. Meanwhile people on the east coast got to go to sleep and the JP's are up and well-rested ready to claim all the HNM's.

F*ck 10 hour maintenances. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Lol I don't know if you're a regular player on Vandiel, but some things were mostly certainly broken.

One thing I've learned from this whole series of debacles is to never, ever schedule any activities with your friends or your LS within a period of 24 hours before the beginning or after the end of scheduled server maintenance. If SE claims that maintenance will be complete at 18:00 Pacific time, and you schedule something to happen at, say, 20:00 Pacific time, you're a fool. Don't feel bad; I'm a fool, too. Two hours is clearly not enough. Give them a full additional day of anticipated downtime.

Apparently, they need it.

No, I'm not hating on SE, a company that has produced some of the finest digital entertainment in gaming history. And I'm certainly not hating on FFXI, which is a game that continues to enthrall me years after I first started playing it. But I'm deeply disappointed in Square-Enix. They've had over two years to get this right, and after the smooth version update a couple of weeks ago, I at least had some hope that they had learned some lessons. Alas, that hope was severely misplaced.

You know SE is doing a pretty ****** job when they have maintain 2 to 3 times a weeks follow by an emergency maintain, each last up to 10+ hours. Then don't let the community know what's going on because of their poor programming and low budget servers. Just come with excuse DdOs everytime. It make people think if they know how to do business.

So 13 - 15 hours a day every 2 to 3 days give you 3 days to play the game and hopefully won't get inrerrupted with another fail POL-ERROR. Sure amaze me to still see people stucking up to SE and loyal fans get all pissy when someone bash SE. Soon you will realize everyone is right and you will bite the dust with only a fews player left because you are a die hard fans. And eat everything that SE give excuse each time when they have down time. Goodluck playing the game like this and with this kind of people.

Clearly, you think "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" means if it is broke, don't fix it either. -_- Typical galka intelligence. It shouldn't take 10 hours to fix 3 minor issues.
