Ah, another 10 hours with which to be bored.

Actually, during the last maintenance, I took the liberty of watching flash animations at Newgrounds and listening to prank phone calls at Ebaums.Since I can't hook my Xbox or any of my other game systems up (TV here has no RCA hookups or whatever they're officially called) I have to amuse myself in other ways when FFXI is down...It's not too bad. =D Those phone calls gave me my first good laugh in a while

I understand the need for maintenance on servers... anyone who doesnt is kind of clueless about how tough it is to maintain a detailed network of interacting systems like this game is composed of.

What pisses me off is the lack of thinking behind SE's timing.

Why not vary the day the maintenance is done on?
Why not vary the time of the maintenance?
Why not move players around on the servers so that all NA are on certain serves and all JP on others so that maintenances could be done at times affecting the smallest possible population?

I used to have Wednesday off from work. SE used to do all their maintenance on Wednesday. I changed jobs and asked for Thursday off. Now, we get two Thursdays in a row with 10 hour maintenance.

    I want to cry...

    1) I didn't make the avatar
    2) surely you're smart enough to recognize that it was meant to make fun of people who do it seriously

So then the people who play late at night or early in the morning can find maybe 1PT in their level range the whole time. yeah, that's a good idea, increase invite rates MORE.

This is an INTERNATIONAL GAME. Not a Nation or region based game, this covers the entire planet. you meet people from all over, which is what Final Fantasy should be.

Adventurers grouping up from far away to kill big things.

Hmm, yet another day that SE is taking away things for half the day.

Much like the last one i doubt this will only be 10 hours. My assumption is that it will be expanded to no less then 12 hours.

Gotta love never being able to play, maybe this time i will get more laundry done that does not need to be done.

I'll never let it die. My inner geek just needed to come out for a while, hence the avatar change.

I believe Tenmiles was referring to his CURRENT avatar, not the "sell teh gilz 4 u" one.

Gotta love their comment about it, though:

"We realize this is another interminable maintenance, not long after the previous Oct. 13 maintenance..."

So it's good to see that they are realizing that we ***** no end about these.

On the plus side: I think this is the last one in their series of server-equipment upgrade maintenances for a while; and if it takes more than 10 hours for this one, someone's goofing off and tying the Cat6 into knots. Why? *cough* "The backbone" = network cables.

(And they do probably use Cat6, rather than Cat5 or Cat5e, for their cable, just so they can milk out Gigabit Ethernet internally.)

I know that maintenance is required but it is a little old when 10hr maintenance is always scheduled during our main part of the day.

For once I'd like maintenance to be done so when we wake up in the morning or by noon at least it's over with.

schedule this on somebody elses peak playing time for once. I know that won't happen so I'll be happy to just have a game that works better than most and take the 10hr maintenance here and there out of a whole year.

i'm afraid to say they already do...

the maint. is scheduled at JP night time (lowest use happens at night), NA daytime (middling use during the day) and EU prime (late afternoon/evening is the highest useage)

This is from 4pm to 2am UK daylight savings. Which means people at school and who work regular jobs (i.e. the majority of players) won't get to play at all today.

This isn't NA prime. Although yes it does impinge on some NA playtime, the majority of schoolies and 9-5ers will get to get on the game later on.

Although yes i agree it would be nice to see the time shifted around abit.

I can mostly play on tuesday and thursday evenings. I've had one night on the game in the last two weeks.

i know chances are i will getting rated down some more, but god i love being right.
